Will The 2023 Chevy Suburban Fit In a Garage: Video

The latest twelfth-generation Chevy Suburban isn’t short on practicality, offering seating for up to nine passengers, plus a sizable max-cargo volume to stuff in just about anything you need to bring along the way. But while this full-size SUV isn’t short on practicality, it isn’t short on exterior dimensions either. As such, we’re taking a closer look at the 2023 Chevy Suburban to see if it’ll fit comfortably in a garage courtesy of the following exclusive GM Authority video.

The front end of the 2023 Chevy Suburban.

Hosted by GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft, the video is a bit over five minutes long and provides some solid information on what Chevy Suburban owners can expect when it comes to fitting the full-size SUV in their garage.

With regard to the raw exterior dimensions, the current twelfth-generation Chevy Suburban is considerably larger than the previous generation. As GM Authority covered previously, the current twelfth-generation Chevy Suburban is 4.1 inches longer with regard to the wheelbase (134.1 inches), 1.3 inches longer with regard to the overall length (225.7 inches), 0.6 inches wider with regard to the overall width (81.1 inches), and 1.3 inches taller with regard to the overall height (75.7 inches) as compared to the generation which preceded it.

With regard to the garage set to house this Chevy Suburban, the garage height and width should both comfortably fit the full-size SUV. However, the overall length poses something of a question. The garage is 252 inches long, but that doesn’t automatically mean the 2023 Chevy Suburban will fit inside. Looking more closely, we find that the garage door incorporates crossbeams that shorten that 252-inch overall length, and in addition, owners will likely not want the front bumper of their SUV to come into contact with the far wall.

So then, will this 2023 Chevy Suburban fit in the garage? Hit play find the answer:

As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Suburban offers three engine options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine. The GM T1 platform provides the underpinnings, and production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

  1. One answer…how long is your garage?

  2. The standard garage door opening 78” with 84” optional, his 95” height must’ve been special ordered.

  3. Who has an empty garage like that?

A standard two car garage is not smaller than 20×20. Newer homes 20′ wide x 24′ deep or larger.

    1. If you watch the video closely, the outside shot shows another garage to the side of where the white corvette is parked. That’s probably where the “things” are stored, keeping this one empty.

  4. The problem isn’t the length of the Suburban, the problem is the idiots that design and build these small garages.

  5. Kind of a stupid question. It all depends on your garage. I’ve got one bay that is 40’ long with 10’x10’ door. Rest of the bays are 30’ with 10’Wx8’T doors. We have a neighbor that has a garage so short that their HHR will bare fit.

  6. Some of us laugh, but this was a real concern with the Ford Expedition. I’m not sure whether FoMoCo didn’t think of garage size or if it just didn’t care.

  7. My parents once rented a house that was built in the 1950s, when cars certainly weren’t small, and our 1969 Catalina was too long to fit. Much of it depends on when your house or garage was built.

  8. It fits better than the wireless phone charger in my 21 Canyon Denali, it won’t let my phone, my daughter’s phone or my wife’s phone lay flat to be charged. Not sure what GM engineers were thinking when they designed it.

  9. I had to drive the Suburban home from the dealership on a test drive to see if it would fit in my two-car garage. I had shelves built against the wall, so the SUV did not fit. Otherwise, it would. The other issue is the hatchback opening needs to adjust the height.

  12. Just a beautiful vehicle and it is longer than my RAM (232″) that barely fits on my driveway. The Tahoe, though nearly identical may have to do.

  13. I laid out the garage on the first floor of the house to be able to fit the crew cab 6’9″ bed 4wd HD truck as my worst case scenario, we almost never park that vehicle in there since we use the Equinox for a daily driver and its easier to schlep groceries from a garage thats part of the house. I made sure the truck would fit because the garage has hot/cold water in it and the barn has no floor drain and only cold water. 1st world problems.

  14. Tie a tennis ball or plumb bob to a string ! Then anchor it to a rafter adjust it accordingly so it contacts the upper part of the windshield this takes the guesswork out of parking
