We’re Driving The 2024 Chevy Trax: What Do You Want To Know?

General Motors unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax in October of last year, showing off a fresh entry-level crossover for the Chevrolet brand. Now, GM Authority has been given an opportunity to drive the 2024 Chevy Trax, which leads us to ask – what do you want to know, dear reader?

Highlights for the 2024 Chevy Trax include an all-new exterior that shows off styling inspired by the ICE-based Chevy Blazer crossover. The fascia incorporates LED lighting, while trim-level-specific wheel and grille designs punctuate the lineup. There are also new exterior dimensions that are lower, longer, and wider than the preceding model.

Side profile view of the 2024 Chevy Trax.

Five trim levels are offered, including LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. Wheel sizing includes 17-inch, 18-inch and 19-inch options.

The larger exterior dimensions provide more room in the cabin as well, with an extra 3 inches of legroom and 12 percent greater cargo capacity. An 8-inch diagonal infotainment screen is equipped as standard, while an 11-inch screen is equipped higher in the trim level lineup. Tech features include optional Adaptive Cruise Control, as well as Active Noise Cancellation.

Motivation is sourced from the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, which is rated at a maximum of 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Output reaches the front wheels via the GM 6-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is not offered.

The 2024 Chevy Trax starts at $21,495, including destination freight charge (DFC). Critically, the 2024 Chevy Trax is less expensive than equivalent 2022 Chevy Trax models. Under the body panels, the 2024 Chevy Trax rides on the GM VSS-F platform. Production takes place at two GM facilities located in South Korea, including the GM Changwon Plant, and the GM Bupyeong plant.

Per a GM Authority exclusive, GM is planning to build and ship a massive number of 2024 Chevy Trax units for the U.S. market during the course of the 2023 calendar year. In addition, General Motors expects the 2024 Chevy Trax to have a significantly higher residual value than the preceding generation.

With all that covered, we want to know – what do you want to know about the 2024 Chevy Trax? Tell us by posting your questions in the comment section, and remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevy Trax news, Chevy news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  1. How’s the performance from the 1.2L? I have driven an Encore GX FWD with the 1.3L, and it was sufficient.

    1. well under powered in china there is only one engine its the 1.5 litre turbo with 181 horse power on tap its called the seeker

      1. That is what I mean. They have the 1.5L. We get the 1.2L….even weaker.

        1. This weighs the same as a civic, has 20% more torque at 1000 rpm less and Honda sells quite a few of those without issue. I would say for 95% of buyers this will be more than sufficient.

  11. Running the 1.2L Turbo, FWD only in this ’24 Trax is acceptable. With GM trying to build Buick back to into a luxury brand (their own words), the new ’24 Buick Envista is a complete miss. The Envista runs the same exact drivetrain with a different body bolted to it. The term “budget luxury” is the very definition of an oxymoron.

With that being said, this new Trax looks great and I’m sure it will sell for what it is intended. JMHO.

  21. Brake noise/squeal is a common issue in the previous gen. Are the brakes quiet on this one?

How is the interior quality? Any flimsy/creaking/rattling bits? Do the surface finishes seem like they will hold up for the course of several years? Looks like a healthy swath of glossy piano black interior trim on the center console…is it the typical “look at it funny and it scratches” quality or does it seem robust?

How is seat comfort for drivers of various sizes and heights? What is front seat travel like?

How is the power for cruising on the highway at 55-65, passing on the highway, merging on to the highway, making left turns at busy intersections, etc.?

Ultimately, is this one of those vehicles where it was obviously built to a price point, or is it one of those cases where the vehicle is surprisingly solid/quiet/well engineered despite the lower price?

  27. If I order a 2024 Trax LS can I get the Convenience package as a standalone option or am I forced to also get the Confidence package? Thank you

  28. Why does GM not pull the orders for production on ordered vehicles that they know is already sold and instead make vehicles that GM wants to make and orders to fill up dealers lots first. The wait time when placing an order for a new vehicle is ridiculous and many times don’t even get produced on an ordered vehicle.
I read that massive numbers of Trax vehicles are coming to the U S, but will believe it when I see it.

  30. The reason I don’t own a Trailblazer already is because GM does not allow you to order them. You must take what the dealer have that are forced on them by the GM process. If I can’t order a Trax then I will buy some other product. I don’t mind having to wait 6 months.

  31. I am surprised to see some folks on this forum asking about things like quick performance, leg room, etc. Best as I can tell, GM is building this vehicle to appeal to people like me and my criteria for a vehicle is the least cost possible and very good durability of what I receive. I am also considering buying a Korean manufacturer’s vehicle because their bumper-to-bumper warranties are 5 years and 50,000 miles as opposed to GM’s 3 years and 36,000 miles. I wish they still made Sonics as the four that I have owned since purchasing them brand new (and cheap) have been pretty good experience except for 1.4L cam covers and engine coils that fail about every 40,000 miles. (I should have gotten the non-turbo 1.8L). If people want a nicely-featured vehicle they should buy a Suburban.

  32. Here is a bit of history for all you youngsters out there…back in late 1963 (yep, the earth was still cooling, ahem) over at the Pontiac Division of GM, John DeLorean was being given the chance to build what would become the first real Mis Sized Muscle Car, AKA as The GTO. So what the engine/drivetrain engineers noticed is that in the A Body Tempest, the 326 V8 that went into the A Body and the 389 V8 had the same dimensions and so they took the larger displacement engine and dropped it into the chassis and it ran very strongly…in fact the larger displacement 421 Pontiac V8 had the dimensions as those other two engines, so think of the fun you could have putting larger displacement engines in smaller, lighter bodied vehicles!
So, fast forward to today…why couldn’t GM again use a larger displacement, higher horsepower 4 cylinder engine in the lighter smaller compact SUV’s so instead of that puny 1.2 liter they could use a 2.0 liter with a turbo producing an easy 100 horsepower more and I doubt they’d lose more than 1 or 2 MPG, which as far as I’m concerned, isn’t going to break the bank but sure as hell put smile on my face when that boost comes on and believe me no one will miss a couple of MPG when you’ve got an exceptionally quick and great performing vehicle. And I would bet the farm that the 1.2 and the 2.0 liter engines are identical in size and weight, betcha’. Oh, and for those who can’t stomach a 2 MPG loss and would be happy with a little over 130 HP instead of over 250 HP, you could still get that anemic 1.2 engine, and regulate yourself to the back of the line when climbing hills with four people plus luggage on board.
Oh well, that was just a thought…but I’d be first in line to buy one of the sub compact SUV’s with looks, handling AND performance to boot! So what do ‘ya say GM drivetrain engineers, care to do some “midnight swapping in the garage”
and give one of those baby’s to the “powers that be” at GM and see if that doesn’t put a smile on their pathetic faces!

  36. Does it completely fall apart between 75,000 – 100,000 miles like my wife’s 2014 Buick Encore? We will not be buying another GM (Daewoo) vehicle ever again, even if it was just purchased for a runabout, gas mileage car.

Still *mostly* loyal to GM for other vehicle options, but my patience is wearing thin.
