We Render The 2023 Chevy Colorado With A Bed Cap

General Motors officially pulled the sheets on the all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado last July, unveiling a brand new third generation for the pickup truck nameplate. For the moment, anyone interested in adding a bed cap (otherwise known as a camper shell) to the 2023 Chevy Colorado is out of luck, as there’s currently no such item available from either GM or a third-party vendor. Nevertheless, GM Authority readers have been clamoring to see what such a configuration might look like, so now, we’ve rendered exactly that.

GM Authority rendering showing the 2023 Chevy Colorado with a bad cap.

Our 2023 Chevy Colorado bed cap rendering is based on the Colorado ZR2 trim level, which in factory stock form already looks pretty fantastic, with a rugged, lifted stance and unique off-roader enhancements. However, with a bed cap in back, we think the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 looks even better. Something about the extended roof line and added rear bulk gives the pickup extra head-turning visual appeal, and such an item would surely be appreciated by anyone keen to maximize their pickups utility and practicality.

Earlier this year, GM Authority rendered the third-generation Chevy Colorado as a new midsize body-on-frame SUV, which draw similarities to the bed-capped pickup truck rendered here. It should also be noted that the 2023 Chevy Colorado’s corporate cousin, the 2023 GMC Canyon, is available with a roof-mounted tent accessory, as featured in a brief documentary titled “Finding Nowhere“. Check out GM Authority’s previous coverage for more information on the accessory and the documentary.

As for the 2023 Chevy Colorado specs, the third- gen pickup truck is available with two engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, as well as the turbocharged 2.7L L3B gasoline engine. Output is measured at 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque for the L2R engine, while the L3B is available in either a 310-horsepower and 390-pound-feet-of-torque configuration, or a 310-horsepower and 430-pound-feet-of-torque configuration. The updated GMT 31XX platform provides the underpinnings, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  1. You should probably think about rendering what it would look like for those that have ordered the Chevy Colorado or GMC canyon. What they’re gonna look like when they receive it because most people haven’t even received them yet. Holy smokes. What’s the hold up come on GM

    1. They are being delivered, on the lots and in customers hands. Nothing wrong here, they had to wait on the EPA before sending them off. In these times with staffing shortages and shipping issues, there is nothing wrong with GM.

  2. What is the problem with Gm? The Colorado and canyon will be a year old before they are delivered.

  3. Can I request a rendering of a higher top full sized van?
Maybe it would awaken the crew at GM.

  4. So basically that is a Traverse. Of course there isnt a product like this available yet from GM or a 3rd party, they aren’t shipping them. A second hail-causing tornado went through the Wentzville area yesterday. GM will only be happy if all the trucks sitting in the holding lots are ruined before they can leave. Thank god Ford doesnt have problems like this

    1. First, change your name dude. Second, Ford has had a problem with lots filled with vehicles sitting for much longer than GM. While GM would actually move vehicles that are missing a few chips, Ford would hold them until they had it all which was months or nearly a year. Yeah, great having a vehicle sit in a field that long.

  5. The cap will be available before the truck. Cmon GM, you in the business or what?

  6. Nothing like dragging the roll out to bring drama to the truck buying hassle. I’m sure salespeople across the country aren’t happy about it either.
It’s very tempting to buy look at the Ford Rangers just because of this long wait. It’s still a Ford and they are pretty scarce also. I drove A Ford Sport Trac for 8 years and when they quit making them I bought a GMC Canyon. It would be very difficult for me to go back to a Ford.
My new Canyon Denali was built and ready to ship in March. Well, it’s supposed to be in transit.
I’m thankful my Canyon is still running strong. If I needed a new vehicle right now, I’d rent one before I’d buy A Ford.

    1. The current ranger isn’t much better than a Taco. Just get the last gen Colorado if you can’t wait.

Got to blame brandon on part of the roll out. The EPA dragged their feet. That’s what happens when 80% of GOV workers still work from home up to even last week. Course they approved it just in time for wentzville to be hit by a tornado.

Still better than the bronco roll out.

  7. This is the Blazer they should make.

    1. You bet Larry. Let’s see a rendering of a K5 Blazer two door and four door based on the new Colorado. What do you think GMA?
GM won’t do it, but you could let us dream.

  8. Longer bed would look so much nicer,

  9. TFL Trucks did a review of a cap on a regular cab long bed and found the improved aerodynamics pretty much offset the added weight, so no decrease in mileage.

With todays tiny 5 1/2 ft beds, a cap isn’t much help for camping unless you want to suffer the penalties of a tent on top of the cap.

Caps haven’t improved in decades. Wish cap manufactures would come out with an over lander version featuring insulation, solar panels, aux battery, a fan, interior and exterior lighting, and marker lights. Why marker lights? Ever get the call of nature and scurry off into the darkness with shovel in hand only to discover you can’t find your rig in the darkness.

    1. They are out there already with how big the overlanding market it. Built in RTT, lights, solar, etc. Just look…

  10. I hate bed caps/toppers. Yeah, they can be useful in certain situations but they make trucks look like SUVs. I’d rather have a Suburban or Excursion than a truck with a topper.

  11. How about a Colorado render that is akin to the 4Runner? A smaller rwd suv on a truck frame would be nice.
