Making its grand entrance for the 2023 model year, the all-new third-generation Chevy Colorado ushers in new exterior styling, an overhauled interior space, and a new powertrain lineup for the midsize pickup nameplate. Currently, the 2023 Chevy Colorado trim level lineup includes WT (Work Truck), LT, Z71, ZR2, and new Trail Boss. However, a sporty Chevy Colorado RST trim level is notably absent. Now, we’re imagining what such a thing might look like with the following exclusive GM Authority rendering.
Of course, we should mention that at present, GM has no plans actually produce a new Chevy Colorado RST trim level. Still, we think such a model needs to happen.
While upping the third-generation Chevy Colorado’s off-road prowess via models like the ZR2 and Trail Boss certainly make a lot of sense, we’d still like to see a street performance Chevy Colorado RST trim level offered as well. To that end, our rendering shows off an attractive set of RST-specific alloy wheels, which are complemented by RST badging for the front fenders and tailgate, as well as a blacked-out appearance with black trim, dark paint, and black Colorado badging.
In terms of content, a new Chevy Colorado RST could be based on the current LT trim level, while incorporating some of the features offered by the Z71. Under the hood, we would like to see the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine as standard, with either the Turbo Plus variant or High Output variant fitting the bill. Comfort features, such as available leather upholstery, would also be appropriate.
Notably, GM offered the RST Special Edition upgrade for the Chevy Colorado several years back, bundling in black badging, black bodyside moldings, and 20-inch wheels.
As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Colorado is equipped with either the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, or the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Under the body panels, the midsize truck rides on an updated version of the GMT 31XX platform, while production takes place in the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

RST sounds like a great idea, not everyone needs a 4×4. Remember how popular the GMC Syclone is/was?….the time is right for a performance RWD truck.
So true. Don’t forget the Colorado Sport model. RWD and 2″ lower than the stock truck. I had one (2005) for 8 years and loved it.
Until they think some customers don’t care for the less expensive black trim they are a NO SALE for me
WHERE IS THE V-6. ????????
It’s gone…..
literally just buy a z71 or canyon elevation
Good idea, but add a lower street suspension. Otherwise it’s just paint and wheels.
Forget the RST as it was only a trim package with Denali wheels.
Get back to a ZQ8 and lower the truck but offer it in AWD or RWD.
Get the suspension back to where it is a turn right left like a Camaro.
I saw a ‘23 Silverado RST in black in a parking lot and parked my ’23 High Country in Iridescent Pearl Tricoat close by. The owner checked out mine and was drooling. He couldn’t get over how it looked with blackout lettering and the chrome grill. Hate to say it but I think he decided that his looks like a stripped down model. Oh well, he said it would be paid off in 6 years. I love my truck and especially the LZ0 Duramax!
Glad to hear you love the 3.0L Diesel. It doesn’t get enough love…
