Watch The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Go Off Road, Tackle Trails: Video

Officially breaking cover last August, the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon introduces the pickup’s third generation, ushering in a long list of changes and updates. Among these is the new 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X trim level, an off-road-ready dirt-churner aimed squarely at enthusiasts. Now, we’re getting behind the wheel of the new 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X to see firsthand how it performs on the trail, as previewed in the following video.

The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X covered in mud after a stint off road.

For those readers who may be unaware, GM Authority was recently given an opportunity to drive the 2023 GMC Canyon (including the AT4X trim level) up in Asheville, North Carolina. The program included a few off-road trails, and although driving impressions and our full 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X review are embargoed until Monday, May 8th, we wanted to whet your appetite with a few action shots of the new AT4X doing its thing.

At a little over a minute long, the teaser video includes shots of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X crawling up slippery trails and sloshing through deep mud holes, spraying the tough-looking exterior with a thick layer of sloppy terra. While we’d love to tell you exactly how the new pickup handled it all, you’ll have to wait until May 8th for the full rundown.

In the meantime, hit play for a quick preview of the action to come:

GM describes the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X as its “premium, no-compromises, off-road midsize truck,” upgrading the trim level with “serious off-road equipment.” Highlights include a factory suspension lift and an extra-wide track, as well as standard 33-inch tires. A set of Multimatic DSSV shocks (featured in the video under a thick layer of mud) are included as well, as are front and rear e-lockers and underbody skid plates. The truck boasts 10.7 inches of ground clearance.

As for the power spec, the 2023 GMC Canyon is equipped with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Under the skin is an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform. Production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  3. You can order it, they’ll just never build it and if they do, you’ll get it when the 2024’s come out.

  4. Do you know what’s crazy I just seen where it had five comments on this post and now it’s down to three and I know there’s been times I put some thing on here it’s not controversial in any way and GM authority takes it down

  5. The “still” picture on the video shows the water up to the top of the wheel wells, but in the video it only goes through a mediocre puddle. Obviously the truck didn’t make it through the deep water, and hence, why it’s not in the video.

And I’m on Howard’s side. I’d bet money that an Impala on a set of winter tires could go everywhere shown in the video.

    1. Ok, I rescind my comment. I just took another look at the video in slo-mo and upon entry, the water is as deep as shown in the video “still”.
The Impala might actually not make it 😉
