A Chevy dealership in Clearwater, Florida recently partnered with ESA, a company dedicated to finding solutions for clean energy, to install a massive array of rooftop solar panels.
Dimmitt Chevrolet of Clearwater installed more than 2,000 solar panels on the roof of its dealership in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint. All told, this 730 kW solar array will generate enough electricity in one year to power the equivalent of 750,000 homes, and will offset roughly 156 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
“This is a major step towards our goal of becoming a more sustainable and environmentally friendly business,” said owner of Dimmitt Chevrolet, Lawrence Dimmitt III. “As we continue to add more EV options for customers, our electricity use will continue go up. It just makes sense to invest in clean energy. We are excited to partner with ESA to bring solar to our dealership.”
In addition to the new solar panel setup, Dimmitt Chevrolet also boasts over 20 electric vehicle charging stations, and is headed into its 100th year of operations.
For some background on ESA, the clean energy solutions company has over 20 years of experience working in the solar industry developing, designing and engineering solar panel systems for commercial use, as well as community and utility solar arrays.
“We are thrilled to work with Dimmitt Chevrolet on this flagship project,” said ESA executive vice president Morgan Brawner. “The Dimmitt enterprise is an example of an entrepreneurial leader in the franchised auto dealership space that saw the opportunity to put capital to work, and hedge against increasing electric rates while reducing tax liability. Leveraging solar to offset 100 percent of annual energy needs will prove to be a competitive advantage as EV market share grows over the coming years.”

So the expected power consumption per home is 0.97W? Less than 1 watt?
I think someone should check the math again, because this sounds like very wishful thinking.
Maybe 750,000 Barbie dream houses
Pretty sure those are 15 watt last time I checked the batteries
They did a huge investment, but can recover it in few years, then it is free energy from that point on. I installed my own home system, and since October my power bill has dropped from over $250 to less than $60. Soon I will pay no more.
Average home draw is 2KW per day, possibly more in humid Florida. This is the equivalent of 300-350 homes, no businesses nor street lights included.
What Dimmitt installed looks great, the more renewables the better. The green new deal has no problem clear-cutting trees for these projects, as is often the case in my area. The trees store carbon, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife. I do wish the solar panels were made in the USA vs China.
The green new deal knows that trees can be planted to replace the one’s used.
Simon: Exactly where will the hundreds of acres of land come from to plant the tree replacements, and who will pay the price if the land can be found here in the highly populated Northeast? Will the Green New Deal be the caretaker for the wildlife while the new trees are growing?
