With four-figure horsepower numbers right out of the box, the Chevrolet Performance ZZ632/1000 crate engine is an absolutely beastly powerplant. Recently showing up at The Block, this 1969 Chevelle SS belongs to Jeff Williams, a former law-enforcement officer who purchased the two-door after moving to Colorado and starting a new business. Williams owned a Chevelle when he was younger, and was eager to jump into a new project. However, after purchasing this particular example, Williams discovered it was due for a complete overhaul.

What is the story goes, local Chevy dealer technician Jared Gastineau was on hand to help Williams with his new Chevelle project car. After Gastineau upgraded the Chevelle with new suspension, new wiring, a 502 crate engine, and a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission, Williams asked Gastineau to join him in opening a shop of their own, giving rise to Mile High Muscle in 2017. Since then, the shop has grown, and now has several employees, two buildings, and a paint booth.

Ever the fan of naturally aspirated Big Block V8 engines, Williams was keen to get the new ZZ632 create engine under the hood of his Chevelle upon its release. Just weeks after Chevrolet Performance unveiled the ZZ632 at the SEMA Show in 2021, the new Big Block was on display at the Good Guys Southwest Nationals event in Scottsdale, Arizona, complete with the monster motor nestled in the engine bay.

With 1,004 hp at 6,600 rpm and 876 pound-feet of torque at 5,600 RPM, this ZZ632 crate engine has what it takes to impress. To complement the insane power numbers, William’s Chevelle was also upgraded with Speedech Performance extReme suspension, a custom hood, high-performance synchros for the transmission, a new clutch, a carbon fiber driveshaft, and a Ford 9-inch rear end.

Now, the Chevelle serves as the calling card for the duo’s Colorado performance shop and continues to wow at car shows around the country.
