These Silverado Diesel 1500 Trims Sell The Fastest

Some trim levels of the 2023 Chevy Silverado Diesel 1500 sell faster than others at dealerships, GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with the matter.

The Silverado Diesel 1500 is now equipped with the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, replacing the previously available 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine.

Trucks from the LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trim levels are the quickest-turning of the 2023 Chevy Silverado Diesel 1500 trim lineup. The term “quickest-turning” means that the vehicle sells most rapidly after it arrives on the dealer lot. Other trims equipped with the LZ0 turbodiesel engine turn slower, including the Custom Trail Boss, LT, and RST trim levels.

The new LZ0 turbodiesel engine is not available on all trim levels of the 2023 Chevy Silverado Diesel 1500. The engine is offered on the Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. It is currently unavailable in the Work Truck or WT, Custom, and ZR2 trims.

GM plans to expand LZ0 diesel engine availability to the ZR2 trim as a powertrain update to the upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500. Up until now, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine was the only engine available in the Chevy Silverado ZR2. GM notes the strong low-end torque developed by the LZ0 fits well with the off-road focus of the ZR2 trim.

The LZ0 turbodiesel engine generates increased horsepower and torque compared to the LM2 diesel engine it replaces. The turbocharged 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine develops a maximum of 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm.

Meanwhile, the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine is rated at peak output of 305 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 495 pound-feet of torque at 2,750 rpm. These figures represent a 10-percent increase in power and a 7.6-percent increase in torque compared to the LM2.

The LZ0 turbodiesel engine also features upgraded steel pistons and a reworked combustion bowl, together with a retuned turbocharger compressor, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control. The engine is paired exclusively with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission for retail customers.

Combined fuel economy for the LZ0 is essentially the same as for the LM2, while the LZ0 offers similar maximum payload and towing capacity. Besides motivating many Chevy Silverado Diesel 1500 trims, the LZ0 is expected to be available for GM’s full-size SUVs for the 2024 model year, including the Chevy TahoeChevy Suburban GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade.

Engine assembly of the LZ0 takes place at the GM Flint Engine Operations plant in Michigan. Meanwhile, the Chevy Silverado 1500 is underpinned by the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico, the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

  1. Put one in a 6’6” bed reg cab with the new interior and 3.73 gears in green and I will buy one. Great daily to work. But no, nobody wants one of those! A-holes!

    1. Not nobody-I want one too!

  2. Build an 8′ bed if that’s what I want. What the hell use is a 5’7″ bed?

    1. It does 73% of what someone needs compared to an 8ft bed, so it does plenty…

      1. It’s OK to haul soccer balls, but put a toolbox on it and you have no room!

        1. so, don’t put a toolbox on it.

    2. @Dave, so just get a work truck than. 8 foot beds galore in those.

    3. The “6’ “ bed is actually almost 7, and freakin 5’ wide. It’s ample.

  3. Yup, I want one with a regular cab long bed!

  4. Yes, a regular cab long bed in an LT or higher trim. Can’t stand the ugly front facia and low options of the work truck! Bring back the silver too!

    1. I have a 93 ex cab w/8 ft bed and a 2023 1500 crew cab standard bed (6’7”). The wheel base and over all length are identical. I’m assuming the current 1500 model won’t handle an 8’ bed.

      1. @ LJ… only the reg cab trim has a 8 foot bed.
