As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD received a mid-cycle refresh that is highlighted by the introduction of the range-topping Denali Ultimate trim level, along with a revised exterior styling, an overhauled cockpit and powertrain enhancements. An all-new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X is also on the way later this year.
As for powertrain, the 2024 Sierra HD utilizes the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard on most trims, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional on most trims. The Duramax boasts 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, up by 25 horsepower and a 65 pound-feet over the pre-refreshed models. In the case of the Denali Ultimate, the Duramax is equipped as standard.
Regardless of engine option, every GMC Sierra HD is equipped with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard fare, which replaces the GM six-speed previously found in gasoline-powered configurations.
Under the body panels, the Sierra HD rides on a more capable variant of the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.
