The GMC Yukon Is Available With A Console-Mounted Safe

The GMC Yukon, Big Red’s full-size SUV, is available with the optional console-mounted safe (RPO code S1O) on certain trim levels. The safe is an LPO or dealer-installed option and is priced at $230.

The console-mounted safe has been available since release of the 2021 GMC Yukon and continues to be available in the 2023 model year.

The safe is only available in conjunction with the regular floor console (RPO code D07), so options removing this console or trims where the console is not available cannot be equipped with the safe. In the base SLE trim level, the safe is unavailable if the buyer chooses the 40/20/40 split-bench front seat (RPO code AZ3) option.

For the SLT and AT4 trim levels of the GMC Yukon the console-mounted safe can’t be ordered in combination with the optional power-sliding center floor console (RPO code DCH). The Denali trim comes standard with the power-sliding center floor console (DCH) so the regular floor console (D07) must be ordered along with the safe.

Finally, on the range-topping Denali Ultimate trim, the console-mounted safe is unavailable because there is no option to replace the standard power-sliding console (DCH) with the regular console (D07).

The console-mounted safe for the GMC Yukon offers discreet, secure storage for valuable items inside the center console. The safe is produced from 16 gauge steel with 1/8th inch welded steel components, with dimensions of 11 inches in height, 16.25 inches in length, and 13.62 inches in width. It includes two 10 tumbler double-bitted security keys. Other features of the center console continue to function normally with the safe installed.

As a reminder, the current 2023 GMC Yukon is offered with three powertrain options, including two gasoline engines – the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine developing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

GM also offers a single diesel option for the 2023 GMC Yukon, the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, which cranks out 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Both gasoline and diesel engines are paired with a GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

The GMC Yukon rides on the GM T1 platform, which also underpins the GMC Sierra. Production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

    1. Like the lockable underseat storage in the pickups that’s shown with fishing rods…

  3. Must not be fireproof or they would have said so.

  4. We have been trying to get a new Yukon since last year. We’re told GM is limiting their allotment and they’re all sold before they arrive. Dealer is only ordering loaded Denali’s, and refuses to give us our GM employee discount and offered us several thousand less than our trade is worth. We’ve been loyal to GMC for over 40 years, but about to go elsewhere.
