Representing the sixth model year of the fifth-generation of Big Red’s full-size pickup truck, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces just a few updates and changes as compared to the preceding 2023 Sierra 1500. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2024 Sierra 1500 will lose two paint colors for the new model year.
GM Authority sources familiar with the matter tell us that Pacific Blue Metallic (color code GA0) and Sand Dune Metallic (GTL) will not be available for the 2024 Sierra 1500. Pacific Blue was available since the current-generation Sierra launched for the 2019 model year, while Desert Sand was introduced for the refreshed 2022 model year.
As a reminder, GM Authority previously reported that Pacific Blue Metallic and Desert Sand Metallic were being phased out for the 2023 model year. In addition, it’s worth noting that both colors will be indirectly replaced by the Downpour Metallic (GXP) and Thunderstorm Gray (GNO) paint colors for the 2024 model year.
In regard to powertrain specifications, the Sierra 1500 has no shortage of engine options. These powerplants choices include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (now called the TurboMax), rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and finally, the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
In a new-for-2024 development, the turbodiesel will equipped as standard fare in the off-road 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X trim level. The atmospheric L87 V8 engine, which served as the exclusive powerplant in the GMC Sierra AT4X, will now be offered as optional for the trim level.
As for structure, the GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. Production is currently scheduled to kick off on July 17th, 2023 at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.

Oh good. I was hoping they would add additional shades of grey as a color option…
I guess the GM designers were listening to AC/DC and decided their existing storm gray color needed to be Thunderstruck!
ROFL!
I have had over a dozen compliments on the Pacific Blue color of my 2020 Sierra and have seen dozens of Sierras and Arcadias on the road with the same Pacific Blue Metallic color ! Why cancel it now when it’s been so popular!
I get so many complements on my blue 2019 Sierra Denali. I ordered a 2023 Denali Ultimate December 29th and have heard nothing. I was told by my dealership that trucks are so back ordered I might get a 2024. It seems there is a new blue for 2024: Downpour Metallic.
To make it exclusive to a specific couple of years. They do this a lot on many models.
Pacific Blue was one of my favorites!
Will the 2024 Sierra 1500 AT4 be available in Downpour blue metallic?
Sand Dune Metallic is a great colour.
Got a new Trail Boss that colour.
She’s beautiful
Are trying to push to other truck manufacturers which offer wide variety of colors that way better.
Bring back the fire engine red color. GM has such a dull and muted color selection. Option a tan hue for interior. I just ordered a 2023 Canyon AT4 and you can have any interior color you want as long as it is black. Come on, the truck is expensive enough, lets have some more interesting options.
Red Hot color is great
GMC has something against blue hues, Dark Sky metallic was the best paint available on the Sierra, Pacific Blue wasn’t as good but still a very nice shade.
I love my Pacific Blue. Too bad the rest of the truck is a piece of junk
