The Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban full-size SUVs can both be ordered with a console-mounted safe (RPO code S1O) to provide an extra locked storage space for valuables.
The console-mounted safe is only available with certain combinations of trim level and equipment. In instances where it is available, it’s an LPO or dealer-installed option and is priced at $230.
The console-mounted safe first became available with the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and the 2021 Chevy Suburban. It is also available as an option for the GMC Yukon SUV and the GMC Hummer EV.
In the case of the 2023 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, the console-mounted safe is available in the base LS trim level unless the buyer opts for the 40/20/40 split-bench front seat (RPO code AZ3).
For the LT, RST, and Z71 trim levels, the console-mounted safe is unavailable in conjunction with the power-sliding center floor console (RPO code DCH).
For the Premier and High Country trims of the Tahoe and Suburban, the power-sliding center floor console (DCH) is installed as standard. Buyers who want to order the console-mounted safe must also choose the regular floor console (RPO code D07) to replace the power-sliding console standard in these trims.
The console-mounted safe for the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban provides moderately concealed, secure storage for valuables inside the center console. Other features of the center console continue to be normally accessible with the safe installed.
The safe is built from 16 gauge steel with 1/8th inch welded steel components, and measures 11 inches in height, 16.25 inches in length, and 13.62 inches in width. It includes two 10 tumbler double-bitted security keys.
The Chevy Tahoe and Suburban continue to be the leading pair of vehicles by sales in the full-size SUV segment. The popularity of the two nameplates has given GM a consistently strong position in this highly profitable market sector. Combined sales of the Tahoe and Suburban are on an upward trajectory of growth in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, though unit sales are largest in the United States.
While the console-mounted safe carries over from the 2021 model year, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban feature several technology updates. Both SUVs gained Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, though they also temporarily lost the Enhanced Trailer View feature.
For 2023, the Tahoe and Suburban also got a new Advanced Technology Package that for the first time in the nameplates’ history includes GM’s hands-free, semi-autonomous Super Cruise technology. Both SUV models also received expanded Super Cruise driving coverage in November 2022. Super Cruise now offers coverage of more than 400,000 miles of U.S. and Canadian roads.
Production of the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

Great idea! Curious if this is something that could be added to a C8 Corvette? I’ve had aftermarket safes but none that are concealed like it is in these Trucks. I’d pay the $230.– for Dealer Installation.
No
That’s great, unless someone steals the whole vehicle.
