Poll: Does The Refreshed Chevy Silverado 1500 Look Better Than The Pre-Refreshed One?

General Motors debuted the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 in September of 2021, officially unveiling a long list of updates and changes over the 2019, 2020 and 2021 model years, as well as the pre-refresh 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited. Among those changes is revised front end styling, and we want to know – which truck looks better? Tell us by voting in the following poll.

Before we jump into this, it bears mentioning that we’re talking specifically about the fourth-gen Chevy Silverado 1500 light-duty pickup, which includes the 2019 through current model years. The pre-refresh design can be seen on the 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 Limited model years, while the refreshed design includes the 2022.5, 2023, and 2024 model years.

Now then, arguably the biggest styling change can be seen in the corners of the front fascia, where the refreshed pickup does away with the infamous “sideburns” of the pre-refresh models. Specifically, the refreshed model gets a molded bumper and front quarter panel treatment, as compared to the vertically elongated styling elements bracketing the corners of the pre-refresh model.

The refreshed model also gets revised headlight treatment, incorporating larger C-shaped light signatures that now double as turn signals; the pre-refresh models housed the turn signals in a horizontally-oriented strip below the the C-shaped element. The refreshed model also gets differently-shaped upper lights, with a different graphic within the headlamps housing.

The grilles were altered as well, with the refreshed model running the Chevy badge higher than the pre-refresh model.

In addition to revisions to the front fascia already covered, the new model also ushers in new exterior paint options and new wheel designs, as well as the new off-road-oriented Chevy Silverado ZR2, which is equipped with its own unique dirt-duty equipment and related styling changes.

Of course, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 also introduced all-new interior appointments for LT trim levels and above. However, for the purpose of this poll, we’re going to focus exclusively on the new exterior.

  1. Best High Country was 2014-2019 and let me tell you why…

It had its own style rims standard like it should. Don’t understand why this generation High Country pre and refresh don’t have the nice 22” as standard. Currently most High Country and I mean most look like an RST with current wheels.

    1. I understand what you’re saying. I ordered a 23 High Country and had to pay $3000 more to get the 22” wheels.

      1. 22” were included at no extra charge on my 2023 High Country

        1. Must have been some type or incentive from dealer because I never came across 22” wheels at no extra charge. But then again I ordered my truck.

    2. Ngl the cat eye trucks were the best looking

  2. What a unique idea, let’s put a chrome grill on the truck. That’s why I would buy a GMC over a Chevy. I can’t believe people falling for the money saving plan of Chevy to have black plastic on the front of their vehicle.

    1. @Bob, hate to tell you, but the “chrome” grill you speak of is still plastic. It is just shiny plastic.

  3. Love the look but the Bow Tie is too high on the grill. It’s like putting your nose on your forehead.

    1. I agree who though moving the bow tie up was a good idea? It needs to be in the middle of the grill. It’s seems to me a lot of the gm design team is missing the mark. Just look at the Cadillac xt5 fake side window it’s ugly. They also messed up the last years of the camaro.

      1. Do you mean CT5?

  4. The “sideburns” were absolutely awful. Made for a very awkward look!

    Reply
    1. Yeah, that was easily the worst part. Aside from that, I think I prefer the pre-facelift.

  5. The pre fresh High Country looks better than the refreshed even though the refreshed has a lot more options. I have both.

  6. What are you talking about? If you need or want long bed….get the HD Silverado truck? GM sales a ton of them.

  7. I just wish I could order an LT with the 6-way power passenger seat.

  8. Refreshed looks better but must have a chrome grill and wheels.

  9. Refresh looks better any day of the week no matter which trim level. I see some wouldn’t agree but they at least put the bow tie back in for most trim levels instead of spelling it out across the front which is ugly IMO.

  10. the old grill, but with the newer LED running light that is thicker

    1. When the running lights are on normal they are white. When they go to turn signal they are amber. Both are legal colors for running lights. I wish gm would make it so I could chose the color running lights I want – white or amber. I prefer the amber. Am I the only one?

  11. Yeah, I would love a High Country 2-door long bed! Real truck!

    Reply
    1. I agree, I have been saying this since they changed the regular cab in 2019. I hate the low option and ugly facia on the work truck, wish they would still make the regular cab long bed in the LT or higher trim!

  12. they are both butt ugly. hope future Silverado redesign looks more squared off, like the new Colorado

    Reply
    1. More squared off is my take as well.

  13. Refreshed: Yes
    Sideburns: NO

  14. I’m not a fan of the bowtie positioned that high up. It’s just wrong. Copied off of Camry design which also looks stupid. Also, please make a regular cab Trail Boss with 8 ft bed and no carpet please. That would be my preference. Also, black grills look cheap but somehow the Trail Boss pulls it off. Bring chrome grills back on the other trims.

  15. I want an electric passenger seat on an LT. Don’t want a LTZ or High Country.

  16. Refresh of the front looks like it has fangs

  17. I have always been a “Chevy guy”. Camaros, Avalanches, Silverados. I love the Silverado-had 3 of them. My 2000 had 120,000 miles before I traded it in on an Avalanche. However, I can’t stand that upward swoosh on the front fender.

    Reply
    1. Loved the avalanche. Lucky enough to have a 2003 z66. Optional “swim trunk” material captain chairs with sunroof and a Bose. Still going strong after 20 years.

    2. Styling is obviously subjective but that character line has turned off a lot of people since it was intro’d.

Maybe Nesbitt’s team will fix that at some point. The new Colorado design direction is perhaps a good sign for things to come on the Silverado…hopefully.

      1. Nesbitt, more like bull-

  18. I like the new front, on the TB at least, and the refreshed interior is outstanding to live with. The bowtie placement doesn’t bother me, I think they were trying to differentiate so you could tell the refreshed truck at a glance… chrome looking plastic is still plastic BTW.

  19. I hope next generation Silverado redesign shows back to 2000 type style with more normal DRL instead of this new artsy farts style and where does it go from here styling is getting worse.Ford 150 even worse in my rear view mirror Rams got a best front styling anybody at GM looking?

    Reply
  20. Refresh looks okay as does the revised interior on the LT to High Country trims. Keeping the old interior on WT and Custom, raising prices upwards of 5K on many trims and sticking lower trims and the regular cab WT with 2.7 engines only were missteps. Also the LT models should at the very least include the power passenger seat and rear armrest/underseat storage that is only offered on the RST on up trims on the convenience package or Allstar editions.

  21. To me the New GMC’s look much better then the Chevy’s, Ram’s or Ford’s.
I noticed the younger generations of buyers like the Chevrolet styling more then the older generation ….it’s always smarter to be more pleasing to younger buyers because they are the future sales……in my opinion this is why Chevrolet trucks a gaining market and Fords are losing market. I also like the Ram styling and I would consider one if it wasn’t for the fact that every one I know That owns one is having tons of issues..
