The sixth-generation Chevy Camaro is set to exit with the conclusion of the 2024 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned when production of the 2024 Chevy Camaro will officially get under way.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Chevy Camaro is set the kick off on August 7th, 2023.
As was the case for the 2023 Chevy Camaro, the 2024 Chevy Camaro will once again be produced at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan. As GM Authority covered previously, production of the 2023 Chevy Camaro will end on August 3rd, 2023. GM will stop taking orders for the 2023 Chevy Camaro in June.
Last month, GM announced that the 2024 Chevy Camaro would be available with a new Collector’s Edition package, confirming an earlier GM Authority report published in September of 2021 that the final model year for the sixth-gen sports car would offer some sort of farewell special edition model. Although GM declined to specify exactly what the new 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition would entail, the automaker did hint that the package “pays homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial codename: Panther.”
The 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition package will be available in North America for Camaro RS and Camaro SS trim levels, as well as a “limited number” of ZL1 models. Orders for the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition begin this summer.
Production of the 2024 Chevy Camaro will end in January of next year. Looking ahead, GM has confirmed that the Chevy Camaro nameplate will indeed get a new generation sometime in the future. The specifics of what the next-generation Chevy Camaro might look are still unavailable, but it will likely include some form of all-electric powertrain, possibly with the introduction of a new Camaro EV sub-brand umbrella.
As a reminder, the Chevy Camaro currently offers the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 3.6 L V6 LGX gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 gasoline engine, and the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine. Under the skin, the Camaro rides on the GM Alpha platform.

I’m afraid a lot of buyers are going to be left empty handed. They’re going to put in an order and the dealer won’t receive allocation for the vehicle. It’s no fun having SS orders sitting there, ready to build, and receive allocation for a V6. The dealer and consumer need an SS V8 not a V6 car. It’s not fair for the consumer or the dealer. The consumer should receive some type of guarantee for getting a car. They shouldn’t be subjected to an algorithm.
Is the V6 still on restriction.?
I had a V6 order accepted last week.
I put in a order for a new zl1 4 weeks ago and the dealer still hasn’t received a allocation for one. I’m trying to be patient. But time is running out quick. I Think If I place a order for a car then they should make the car. I mean the allocation system is pretty much a ridiculous concept.
The manufacturer should be making every car they get a special order for first since they are orders direct from customers and not dealer allotment orders. I hope GM will accept my order.
You can’t order the v8 right now anyways cause I have a down payment on one.
Having Electric Vehicles Forced Upon Traditional Muscle Car Lovers Is One Helluva Gut Punch! I Will Drive My Old Gas Powered Car Till The Wheels Fall Off Or Not A Drop Of Gas Can Be Found On Earth! You Just Know There’s Gonna Be Some Creative Muscle Heads Later On Down The Road!
Either a v8 or a V6 people should feel lucky to get a 2024 Panther regardless of what the allocation shows.
Empty handed = order a Mustang.
GM surely knows that most customer orders for the 2024 Camaro will be for a model that has a V8. Personally, the muscle car I purchase must have a V8. If a V8 is not available, I will not buy it. If GM won’t build it, Ford will. Also, my opinion, GM should build every vehicle ordered by an individual and dealer. Happy customers equate to successful companies and happy stockholders. Maximize production and profit. What a novel thought!
Is it correct that article states that regular 2024 Camaros (not Collector Edition) will be built from August 2023 to January 2024?
Heard for 3 different dealers in my area and 1 GM dealer’s representative that yes January 2024 will be the end of ALL 2024 Camaros, even the Limited Edition ones.
Since my original comment received a few “down thumbs”, let me clarify. I placed an order for a 2SS with the 1LE performance package on 10-April-23. If I don’t have an allocation by the third week of May, I’ll be buying a Mustang instead.
I don’t blame you. If GM can’t produce the car that’s their loss.
I also have a 2SS 1LE on order – since 13-January-23 and still No allocation yet. I’ll admit I have done some window shopping at ford’s website, but in the end, The mustang is just not what I want. I’ve rented one before. They’re okay. Just not okay enough for me to want to buy a new one and keep for the next 20 years.
Wow, no allocation since Jan! I’m now officially pessimistic. Perhaps I should just get my deposit back and reorder when the 2024s can be ordered in the fall. I understand your trepidation on the Stang. I should have indicated “maybe” on Stang myself; guess I was trying to talk myself into it, publically.
I’ve had an order since February 2022, then when they stopped making 2022, I placed an order for a 2023 in October 2022, still waiting….. and I’ve gone to 2 different Chevy dealerships. I currently have a 2018, so I’m not totally without a Camaro, but really would like a newer model with the options I want.
Hello Dave,
Experienced Camaro buyers contact several dealers, as some of them have an easier time getting those V8 allocations. Refundable deposits at multiple dealers is also done. Another option is to use Chevy’s car search feature to see what dealers have on the lot – the tool has a range of up to 2000 miles if you need it.
Experienced Camaro buyers? People buy more than one of these? Must be masochists. 😁
I’ve had mine on order same spec since January 1, 2023
GM canceled my order after 5 months of waiting
I have been waiting since November of last year for allocation on my zl1
Then you are not a true camaro fan if you switch just because you cant get V8
I just spoke with Bergstrom Chevy in Appleton WI (I live outside of WI). They have a 2SS with the 1LE package available with several more options than I originally wanted. I just spoke with them and believe it or not, they told me they would not sell it to anyone who lives outside of Wisconsin. They told me it was because they were afraid someone would resell it as a used car for more money than they paid. They didn’t explain how this couldn’t happen in Wisconsin. What a bunch of garbage!
The problem is we think GM cares about us all, well guess what they don’t! I have owned GMs my whole life, but ot may be time to change
It’s not just GM. The last two years have empowered automakers. The consumer is no longer a priority, just a necessary evil.
I live in Vancouver Canada and have had a ZL1, 6 spd on order for just over 2 years now. I’ve got two orders going at two different dealerships. Both get 1 ZL1 allocated per year. They both could sell half a dozen or more if GM would let them. I also have owned GM products for 30 plus years(mostly trucks). I sold all my GM stock as I think the way the company is run will lead to financial ruin soon. Especially pushing hard to build only EVs by 2030. What a load of cr.p!
I would suggest you contact more dealers, up to 10-15 in your area, and asking if they have a ZL1 allocation. Larger higher-volume dealers will tend to have an easier time of procuring one. I too wanted to stick with a dealer I liked and was close to me, but that can end up with you not getting your car. Two years is more than enough reason to look at other dealers.
Two year wait for an allocation Andy? Yipe! I’m on Vancouver Island, and I placed an order in March 2022. Finally received my allocation after a 13 month wait. The wait was long because I had ordered a convertible, and the allocations are broken down such that convertible is a specific allocation. I originally ordered the V6 3LT M6 RS, but was told that when the dealership got the allocation, they submitted my order and it came back rejected. GM said that both the 3LT and the V6 were no longer available for Canadian orders of the ’23. So in order to keep the dream alive with all the bells and whistles I had been waiting a year for, I resubmitted as a 2SS M6 and my order was accepted immediately. I was luckily the only customer on the convertible allocation waiting list. Hopefully you’re in a position that the next allocation that comes in for a ZL1 is yours. For me it’s now onto the next waiting period, to get the announcement of the production week for my build.
Jay,
My order was accepted to Priority one (whatever that means) a year ago. Its the build date that we’re waiting for. I was able to find the exact car I wanted ( except for the color) in Edmonton (2023- 6M, ZL1) and bought it immediately. So, I am now finally able to have some fun. I am however leaving my order standing as it is now almost a joke amongst myself and all my friends how long it will take to get the original order filled. If they finally build it, the decision will have to be made if I buy it and sell the one I have or just buy it and sell it. Or make some deal with the dealership and let them just sell it to someone else.
Just note that if you buy it and then resell it for a profit GM will likely cancel the warranty, like they’ve done for Corvettes that folks have done that with.
Andy,
I received word from my dealership today that my car has been built! It rolled of the production line this past Thursday. The pace was much faster than I could ever have expected. Woohoo!!
If you dont pick it up they will keep your deposit and sell it to someone else. You dont make deals with dealers until you pay for car.
I think the stock holders for GM should FIRE the CEO she must think no one wants to buy a car . Bring back more cars.
Farewell package: stickers, dash plaque, and leftover LPO inventory that nobody wanted in the first place.
I was just called from the Chevy dealer in Peotone Illinois (right outside Chicago) and they told me they have a 2SS 1LE available right now (apparently the ordering party didn’t buy it). They have it priced at just over $60k (which is $5k over sticker) in case someone else wants it. I found a used one (a 2018) with only 4k miles on it that I’ve settled on. Hope one of you jump on the Peotone car (it is Rapid Blue).
I saw the design of the IROC and it was incredible. I would buy one in a heart beat. The white and black combination was stellar. Talk about one awesome looking car. I sure hope GM looks at what can be created and start producing by customer-driven. GM could make a ton of money. Maybe it’s time to hired to gear head designers.
I’ve had an order for a ZL1 in since November 11, 2022 with a priority 1 rating, still sitting at 1100. 170+ days snd counting.
same mine was dec of last year, hoping to get a 2024
Where to order a 2024 camaro?
Find the dealer that sells the most Camaros in your state or province. Ask them to order one for you, leave them with a deposit. Keep in mind that 2024 Camaros can’t actually be ordered until August.
Order books opened yesterday 6/15 for 2024 Camaros. Orders have been submitted, including mine, Now everyone has to wait for dealers to receive allocations. I thought I saw somewhere that was happening in July.
I placed an order for a 23 Camaro 2SS back on January 9th through a high volume dealer. Still waiting….. I have zero optimism at this point.
Good luck my January order did not get accepted. GM canceled it.
I have my order in for my 2SS 1LE and i know it can take alittle while. $hit I’ll take the very last one made haha that would be worth a ton of money. Lol
But if they don’t make mine the way I ordered it. They will be making me a corvette even up and I won’t sue them then. Lol
You cant sue them. You just get your deposit back. They are not required or forced to do anything…SMH
Placed an order for a convertible 6spd 2SS back in August 2022 still no allocation… after reading the comments above I am now planning to place orders at a few more dealerships. No idea where else to go though, does anyone have any recommendations for dealers in the Greater Toronto Area?
I heard that Ontario Motor Sales in Oshawa is a high volume dealer in the GTA. Their sales people told me that if I order a new Camaro through them, it’s likely to be accepted and allocated.
Try Niagara Falls as they would have camaro’s on the lot while Toronto had none
The real reason the slow delivery is because in 2024 the gasoline engine will be no more. Supposedly the 2025 is the last year for combustion engines. They started this transition in 2021 with all the failed orders
I read today they are doing away with the shock and steel for 2024, when will we see the 2024 configurator online.
I want one of the Camaro ZL1 collectors edition with the matte black paint and it’s called Panther edition
