Late last month, GMC released a documentary video chronicling the off-road adventures of four elite travelers in the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon. As one might expect, the video, titled “Finding Nowhere,” highlighted the new pickup’s prowess off the pavement, but it also provided a look at a roof-mounted tent accessory that the adventurers used while traversing the epic wilderness. Now, we’re taking a closer look at that tent accessory.
The item in question is dubbed the Odyssey Series 49-Inch Hard Shell Rooftop Gas Strut-Equipped Tent by Freespirit Recreation, and it is offered as an associated accessory from GMC. The tent features a hard-shell construction finished in black, as well as gas strut assist for quick and easy setup. The exterior is composed of a “tri-layer” technology designed to keep occupants warm in colder weather and cool in the summer time, and it also incorporates a silver coating around the rainfly with 50+ UV protection. Additionally, there’s a 3,000 mm polyurethane coating on the rainfly to repel water.
Inside, the tent features two removable hanging shoe and storage pockets, as well as an integrated night light and USB-powered LED lighting strip. The tent can comfortably sleep up to two people, and offers 83 inches in interior length, 48 inches of width, and 43 inches of height. When closed, the tent is only 7 inches tall.
The tent is available for $3,295. GMC Rewards members can also trade in 9,885 points for an eligible purchase. Installation requires a vehicle roof rack with cross rails, or a pickup bed rack, both of which are sold separately. In the documentary video, we see the tent mounted to the 2023 GMC Canyon via a pickup bed rack.
As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Canyon features the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine for motivation, with output rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Under the body, the Canyon rides on the updated 31XX platform. Production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
