The all-new third generation of the GMC Canyon pickup is currently rolling off GM production lines with the 2023 GMC Canyon, bringing a fresh lineup of features to the midsize truck nameplate – including revised exterior styling, an overhauled interior, new technology, and a new powertrain.
Now, GM Authority has learned what GM’s planned sales mix is for the 2023 GMC Canyon. The mix includes the Elevation, AT4 and Denali trim levels, produced since January 24th, 2023, and the off-road 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X trim level, which kicked off production in April.
This is what GM expects the sales mix to be among the four trims available following the start of regular production (SORP) of the AT4X on April 10th, 2023:
- Elevation: 35.5 percent
- AT4: 33 percent
- AT4X: 18.5 percent
- Denali: 13 percent
As part of its overhaul, the 2023 GMC Canyon is taller and wider than the previous generation, improving the pickup’s approach, departure, and breakover angles. GM fully refreshed the truck’s exterior design, adding new LED exterior lighting signatures and omitting the front air dam.
The Canyon’s interior is also reworked, with the Elevation and AT4 trims receiving a standard 8-inch digital instrument cluster and the Denali and AT4X trim levels featuring an 11-inch cluster. The truck includes a wide assortment of standard convenience and safety tech features, with even more available as part of option packages.
The GMC Canyon’s 2023 model year also debuts the Canyon AT4X, a new off-road-focused trim level that has already gained an enthusiastic reception from GMC pickup drivers. This exciting, adventure-ready addition to the Canyon lineup offers a factory lift, ultra-wide front and rear tire tracks, standard 33-inch tires, Multimatic DSSV shocks, front and rear e-lockers, and underbody skid plates.
GM also offers a limited-run 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 with even more off-road elements, including front- and rear-facing underbody cameras with a wash function, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, an off-road front bumper, a winch, a grille-mounted 30-inch off-road light bar, a front skid plate and a Comeup Winch.
The Edition 1 sold out within 10 minutes of order books opening according to Global Vice President of Buick, GMC, and GMC Hummer EV at General Motors Duncan Aldred. The 2023 GMC Canyon AEV Edition is still on the way, incorporating the Edition 1 upgrades plus an AEV-branded intake snorkel, unique beadlock-capable wheels, and possibly other off-road or styling features.
As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Canyon is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine in the High-Output tune, developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Available drivetrains for the 2023 GMC Canyon include either 2WD or 4WD for the base Elevation trim, while the AT4, AT4X, and Denali trim levels are equipped with 4WD as standard.
