The 2024 Chevy Trax stands as the first model year of the Bow Tie brand’s second-generation subcompact crossover. Representing a complete redesign over the preceding model, GM Authority has now learned exactly how General Motors will allocate 2024 Trax units to dealerships.
Sources close to the matter tell GM Authority that 2024 Chevy Trax units will be allocated to dealerships using the following three factors:
- 40 percent based on Chevy Cruze units sold during its final three years
- 40 percent based on previous-gen Chevy Trax units sold over two years
- 20 percent based on competitor performance in a dealership’s local market (if the market sees a lot of sales of competing models)
Simply put, dealers that moved a plethora of Cruze and Trax units should receive a greater allocation of 2024 Trax units.
As for the third factor, competing models consist of vehicles with similar starting prices and size. In fact, the 2024 Trax is actually the eighth most-affordable vehicle for sale in North America.
Rank | Model | Base MSRP + DFC |
---|---|---|
1 | 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage | $17,650 |
2 | 2023 Kia Rio | $18,515 |
3 | 2023 Nissan Versa | $18,595 |
4 | 2023 Kia Forte | $20,815 |
5 | 2023 Hyundai Venue | $20,985 |
6 | 2023 Nissan Sentra | $21,145 |
7 | 2023 Kia Soul | $21,215 |
8 | 2024 Chevy Trax | $21,495 |
9 | 2023 Nissan Kicks | $21,775 |
10 | 2023 Hyundai Elantra | $22,065 |
As can be seen in the chart above, the 2024 Trax edges out the Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Elantra by $280 and $570, respectively.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Trax is powered by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Notably, this powerplant is also found in the Chevy Trailblazer LS and LT trim levels. Output is routed to the front wheels exclusively through the GM six-speed automatic transmission.
Under the skin, the 2024 Trax rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set. Production officially kicked off on February 13th, 2023 at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea. Pricing for the starting 1LS trim level starts at $21,495, which includes the destination freight charge.

that 2024 chevy Trax in Crimson Red color is a very beautiful vehicle and they way GM has made improvements by makeing bigger all the way around is great i had a 2020 pacific blue Trax and i really liked it .but my kids kept telling me it wasn.t big enough for my in the driver seat area .and i needed a power operate tail gate so i traded it on a 2022 chevey Equinox the Equinox is one of the most Beautiful car that i have ever driven and rode in .but you never know i haven.t had it a year yet but if i could i would trade it on a crimson red trax .
I’ve got a 2020 Equinox LT AWD with all the goodies except leather and I’ll agree that yes it is a wonderful ride.
Chevy gave up the enviable position of having the least expensive car on the market- the Spark. I drive a Buick and Cadillac as daily drivers, so when I got a Spark rental car I didn’t expect much. My wife and I both thought it was cute reasonably comfortable and kind of fun to zip around in. I would have bought one later this year when my daughter gets her driver’s license.
The $7,000 more expensive Trax looks fine. Apart for the hugely higher price the big disappointment is no available AWD. We live in the sometimes snowy north and I hoped for the big price jump and transition from car to SUV to at least offer AWD.
No one has mentioned that net of Federal incentives the higher content Bolt is now less expensive than the Trax, is built in the USA by American workers and is not a first year new model.
Buy a Bolt people- lower original cost, lower operating cost & less maintenance.
I just happened to chek to see if there were were any new TRAX in stock I noticed there was a upcharge of about 1300 dollars on the TRAX sorry you lost me right there and all the dealers were doing the same thing
Too bad its only FWD! We need AWD in the NorthEast! They wouldve sold a ton of them had they made it AWD. I guess GM didnt want to compete against a more expensive TrailBlazer
Agreed I live in Minnesota and the AWD is a must. Also I like the height of prior gen trax as I like sitting up higher it’s actually 4 inches taller and some people are saying new trax feels like a sedan so idk! I’d have to test drive one.
I would be seriously considering the ‘24 Trax for a purchase. It looks like a Blazer at a budget price. But when I read and heard about the “additional dealer markup” on the Trax, that soured me. Dealerships already have a bad reputation. Charging more than the sticker price on a mainstream model lowers dealership’s’ reputation even more. If I do buy one and pay above the MSRP, I would feel like I was ripped off and taken advantage of.
Then don’t ship at that dealer, most are not going over MSRP. Every dealer near me is at MSRP or less. Two dealers are discounting at $500 or $750 (with financing). Theses things are not staying on dealers lots very long and just seeing one is difficult.
I bought mine at msrp. Not all dealers are up charging.
So in other words considering my local dealerships performance in having those other things on the lot, these Ne Trax thingies will be hard to come by. Way to go gm and… you worthless locals.
I bought a 2024 Chevy Trax on May 11th and it is fantastic. It seems bigger than ones in the past. It has plenty of back seat room and runs great. My wife and me were torn in buying the Trax or a Venue and we are so glad we bought the Trax. We had a 2021 Venue and it was great but when you compare what the Trax had compared to the Venue the Trax blows it out of the water. The Trax is a lot bigger and roomier and fits four people with ease/
Dealers in my area are waiting up to two months to receive them. We test drive one was surprised it was fine. It seems that dealers in New Jersey are stocked with them dealers in Westchester are still waiting for inventory. Several don’t have any they all had two or three which were sold . Shameful GM can’t get cars to dealers. Found some dealers getting 45 in transit and Westchester Ny getting two cars.
I was promised my Trax yesterday. None of the dealers have them in stock but they are still being advertised like they were on the lot until you go to test drive one. Didn’t know it was coming from South Korea either. Not happy.
What do you mean by you were promised a Trax? Did you give them a down payment? Don’t factory order a Trax as it will take months.
We searched all over to find one just to see and drive. It was great but wanted a different configuration. Found the exact one online at Chevy’s website, called the dealer and put down a $500 deposit. It was about 2.5 weeks out from expected delivery to the dealership. It arrived ontime and we drove the 200 miles to go get it. So far it’s been almost 4 weeks, 1,100 miles averaging 35.2 mpg and couldn’t be happier.
The upcharges have made this affordable series of Chevy Trax most disappointing. How would you feel about paying $29K on a delivery-included Base LT before taxes, license, and dealer fees / add-ons? It feels like a dealership-gone-rogue.
Upcharges? Disappointing? We are extremely satisfied with our LT. Walk away from any dealer asking over MSRP or adding unnecessary items. I’m seeing dealers selling for anywhere between $500-$1,500 off MSRP.
