Here Is The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2

GM pulled the sheets on the refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD last September, unveiling a revised exterior design, a completely overhauled cabin, new tech goodies, and an upgraded powertrain lineup. At the time, GM also announced the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2, but didn’t provide specifics and details on the new heavy-duty off-roader. Now, however, GM has officially debuted the first-ever Chevy Silverado HD ZR2.

The new 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 joins the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 to form the Bow Tie brand’s trio of flagship, off-road performance pickup trucks. The new Silverado HD ZR2 trim level is available exclusively in the 2500 Crew Cab configuration, and is equipped as standard with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque.

The updated 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is available as an optional upgrade for the Silverado HD ZR2, with output now set at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque following the recent 2024 model-year refresh. Both powerplants connect to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 stands out from the rest of the trim level lineup thanks to new styling upgrades that include a unique front grille, flow-tie emblem, unique wheel opening molding with integrated mudguards, ZR2 badging in the grille bar, and a higher stance. That latter bit is the result of a 1.5-inch suspension lift front and rear as compared to standard Silverado HD four-wheel drive models.

The equipment list includes MultiMatic DSSV dampers, specific front upper and lower control arms and specific steering knuckles, a larger steel transfer case skid plate, a front aluminum skid plate, a rear locker, and 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. Enthusiasts can also access a new Off-Road mode that adjusts settings for the brakes, traction control, stability control, throttle response, transmission shifts, and locking rear axle to enhance off-road performance even further.

Inside the redesigned cabin space, we find Jet Black and Graystone leather-appointed upholstery, as well as a 13.4-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch driver information center covering infotainment duties. A 15-inch head-up display with off-road inclinometer and HD Surround Vision are both optional.

Production for the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 is set to begin this summer at the GM Flint Assembly plant in Michigan. Official pricing information will be released closer to the start of production.

  1. Nice! But at what cost……

    1. Considering it starts with the gas engine, probably not terrible. Looking at the interior, it looks on par with the LTZ. Probably same price as the high country or a little more as adding shocks, a lift and additional skid plates don’t cost much. Cheaper than you could by buying an LTZ and retrofitting.

I want to see an L8T performance package though. Can we get an option for a CAI and cat back from the factory and maybe, just wishing for a header package?

      1. I discussed what I expect pricing to be at the end of the video, around the 13 minute mark.

  2. That thing is awesome! When can I build and price it?

    1. Configurator and pricing should go live late summer.

      1. When will the 2500 hd midnight editions start getting built? Will they start with the high country then ltz and LT’s last or mix them up? I’ve been waiting since July

        1. I’m not sure about midnight editions, but we are building a really good mix of all models in Flint now.

  3. Looks great proably 90-95k too start

  4. So no front locker? That’s sort of a ZR2 hallmark right now.

    1. No front e-locker. Chevy’s reasoning discussed around 4:11 in the video above.

    2. They aren’t needed, only a handful of people in the other trucks even get them in a situation where they are of any use (that is an extreme situation). A front brake based system is far superior, especially in an IFS. A big truck like this won’t get in situations it is needed. The Silverado is the same. Only the Colorado could maybe make a legit case for use but even then, not that many people would get in that situation.

  5. I don’t really understand a 2500 offroader, it’s not a good truck for it. Mid-size is really best. I’ve taken my F250 out a little bit but it’s just so dang big you can’t fit down trails. Even if you want a full size though, a 3/4 ton has such stiff suspension in order to do what a 3/4 ton is supposed to do. But if it sells it sells, and if nothing else it does look good

    1. The majority of drivers in the midwest and east coast only have them for show.

  6. Looks great. Does anyone know what color this is?

    1. I can’t tell if it’s a rendering of Sterling Gray Metallic (GXD) or a new color that hasn’t been revealed yet.

      1. I was thinking the same. Hoping for a new color. The sterling is a little too silver looking for my taste. I miss the satin steel option.

    2. It looks like Slate Grey to me.

    3. It doesn’t look like it has a metallic in it, as Sterling Gray and Slate Gray are both metallic options. I think this might be GMC Sierra HD’s new Thunderstorm Gray which is a non-metallic option (I think). So this might be our first look at the Thunderstorm Gray on the Silverado HD ZR2.

      1. Thunderstorm Grey and Slate Grey are identical colors. I’ve seen them run one after another down the assembly line. The only difference is, Thunderstorm Grey is sprayed on GMC’s and Slate Grey is sprayed on Chevy’s. Since the truck pictured has a bowtie on it, I am positive this is Slate Grey.

        1. The z71 sport packages on the LT only comes with slate grey for that tone, and i have so much trouble finding new pics of this truck not digitized. If this is slate Gray im all in it looks great!

          1. Slate Gray is paint code GNO. It was used on the Chevrolet Bolt for a few years now so you can find real pictures of a Bolt with GNO paint code online.

  7. Why no 3500?

    Reply
    1. These run with a modified frame for suspension travel. The 2500 and 3500 use different frames. It cuts cost and complexity.

      Reply
    2. 2500’s don’t make very good true off-road vehicles in the first place. 3500 would even be worse although the reduced towing capacity of these trucks is disappointing. After spending that kind of money, I would want the same towing limits as regular HD’s. Can’t have your cake and eat it too……

  8. So are axle ratios not a concern any longer with the 10 speed? The 3.42 in the disks
Diesels is sufficient with the 35s?
