In a bid to create anticipation and excitement for the upcoming Indy 500, 50 identical 2023 Chevy Camaro convertibles were staged at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway just last week.
Named the “Festival Event Cars,” this tradition is designed to get enthusiasts and fans of the imminent Indy 500 excited for the Month of May – which consists of the weeks leading up to the main event. This year, General Motors provided 50 special-edition 2023 Camaro SS convertibles for use at the Indianapolis Speedway, as well as the surrounding areas.
It’s worth noting that this will be the 107th running of the Indy 500, and it will take place on May 28th, 2023.
The exterior of each muscle car features Sharkskin Metallic exterior paint, along with special Indy 500 graphics from GM’s Performance Design Studio. On the interior, each Chevy Camaro receives an Ash Grey colorway adorned in leather.
Additional features include a power-folding convertible top, Brembo front and rear brakes, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 gasoline engine, which is rated at 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque.
“These Camaro convertibles are a symbol of the shared passion Chevrolet, IndyCar and the 500 Festival board have for the Indianapolis 500,” Chevrolet Indianapolis district sales manager Mike Quinn was quoted as saying. “Living and working in Central Indiana, seeing these Camaros on the road always reminds me we’re one step closer to May.”
In addition, according to a report from Automotive News, Chevy spokesperson Kevin Kelly stated at the vehicles will be available for purchase by the general public after the Indy 500, likely throughout the Indianapolis area. That being said, there are currently no details on pricing information.
As a quick reminder, the 2021 Indy 500 also featured Chevy Camaro festival cars, as did the 2022 Indy 500 event.

i was today years old when i learned theres actually 2023 camaros produced
Sadly ironic that GM is promoting this car – now.
They have been promoting Camaro’s this way for yrs now. Looking forward to seeing that color in real life.
Sharkskin Metallic is out there now… AKA Sterling Gray Metallic on Traverse and Fullsize SUV’s and Pickups…
Very cool!
Too vanilla in my opinion, I really enjoyed the colors from the last two years. The cars look good, but silver is just too “average”.
Love the Sharkskin Metallic. The Camaro looks best as a convertible. Remove the graphics and there is a beautiful car under there.
I still have my 2000 Brickyard 400 SS Camaro convertible. It is white with a black top. Still gets a lot of attention.
Maybe one day GM will allow us to buy the actual pace car replicas again that hasn’t happened since 2008. What a shame that they stopped that program, and that they have no intentions of ever allowing it again. There are lots of pace car collectors out there, including myself, who would love to be able to purchase a replica Indy 500 or Daytona 500 pace car again.
Very cool. 1967 Pace Car is my favorite, though.
And we put in a order for a 2023 2ss back in November 2022 and still don’t have any information if we are going to even get one . GM needs new management or they will be bank rupped again.
We were all put on wait lists so GM could do this? It appears that the General doesn’t care much about a certain segment of the market.
