After years of waiting, both variants of the all-electric GMC Hummer EV – which includes the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV – are finally being concurrently manufactured. That being said, only the range-topping Edition 1 units are being produced, but now, General Motors has officially debuted the 3X trim level for both Hummer EV variants.
Slotting below the Edition 1, the 3X trim offers prospective buyers more opportunity to customize their all-electric pickup or SUV to their liking. With standard features including the four-wheel steering, CrabWalk and the Watts to Freedom (WTF) mode, the 3X trim level doesn’t skimp on unique features either. In addition, available features include the Extreme Off-Road Package, which takes both GMC Hummer EV variants’ all-terrain capabilities to the next level.
The 2023 Hummer EV Pickup’s 3X trim offers a GM-estimated driving range of up to 329 miles on a single charge, when equipped with the (RPO code Z6X) Extreme Off-Road Package. Notably, this is the same quoted range as the Edition 1 variant. Without the off-road package and equipped with the standard (PHV) 22-inch Premium Finish Painted Aluminum wheels with selective machining, the estimated range climbs to 355 miles, using the pickup’s 24-module, 212.7 kWh battery pack. Towing capacity also reaches up to 8,500 pounds on the Hummer EV Pickup 3X.

In regard to the Hummer EV SUV, the 3X trim offers an EPA-estimated driving range of 298 miles on a full charge with the Extreme Off-Road Package, and 314 miles without the package, but equipped with the standard 22-inch wheels instead. Towing capacity maxes out at 7,500 pounds in all current configurations of the Hummer EV SUV.

“GMC has long been a leader in professional-grade trucks and the GMC Hummer EV continues to rock the establishment, setting new standards in technology, capability, and maneuverability,” GMC Hummer EV chief engineer Al Oppenheiser was quoted as saying. “Our unwavering goal was to develop an off-road capable supertruck right from the factory and we’re excited to show the world what 100-plus years of vehicle development know-how can do when applied to EV power.”
As a quick reminder, both variants ride on the GM BT1 platform, and source motivation from GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant (previously known as the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant) in Michigan, where Hummer EV Pickup production kicked off in November 2021 and Hummer EV SUV production commenced in January 2023.
