SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) is advancing rapidly in the development of new zero emission vehicles, and an upcoming electric MPV called the Wuling EQ100 has just been spotted in China.
Spy photographers have discovered that General Motors’ second joint venture in China is developing the upcoming Wuling EQ100 MPV, an all-new model that will further expand the automaker’s strong portfolio of electric vehicles. This week, the Wuling EQ100 was captured for the first time partially camouflaged during its road tests on the public roads of the Asian country.
The upcoming Wuling EQ100 represents the first all-electric multipurpose vehicle developed by SGMW, with which the company will compete in the highly popular MPV segment in China. As such, the EQ100 will usher in a new phase in Wuling’s continued expansion of Global Silver logo-badged vehicles to increase its share of the retail market by meeting the needs of more individual customers.
In particular, spy photos show the upcoming Wuling EQ100 to be a subcompact MPV with classic proportions, including a steeply raked A-pillar, a long wheelbase that creates short overhangs, and a generous glass surface. In addition, the set of split front headlights with a horizontal LED light strip that is replicated at the rear, the straight outlines of the windows and recessed door handles stand out.
Unlike the partially camouflaged exterior, the interior of the first Wuling EQ100 MPV prototype was caught bare and noticeably incomplete. However, we can see the definitive upper dash layout with a floating screen for the driver instrument cluster and an even larger infotainment system screen, as well as the new steering wheel and horizontal air vents featured in the latest Wuling products.
The upcoming Wuling EQ100 MPV could make its world debut in China during the second half of this year, potentially as the first member of an eventual new family of all-electric MPVs from the Chinese brand wearing the EQ nomenclature. As usual, details about the Wuling EQ100 will be revealed progressively as development continues, and the official reveal date approaches.
