Ford Escape Crashes Through Garage, Flattens C4 Chevy Corvette

In an unusual scene of automotive disaster, a Ford Escape SUV ended up completely on top of a white Chevrolet C4 Corvette on Monday, March 20th, crushing the sporty sedan under its bulk.

The incident took place in the town of Murphy in Jefferson County, Missouri, at a home located on White Ash Drive close to the intersection with Spruce Drive, KMOV4 reports.

Neither darkness nor inclement weather appear to have caused the crash. The accident occurred at 8:09 AM, slightly more than an hour after sunrise on March 20th, and the weather was mildly warm and mostly sunny at the time, according to weather websites.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the Escape SUV is also the homeowner at the site of the accident. The woman driving the SUV, whom some secondary sources report is in her 60s, crashed the vehicle through the garage door. Momentum carried the SUV up onto the roof of the Chevy C4 Corvette inside.

No injuries resulted from the crash. Images show the two vehicles still piled up inside the garage, framed by the smashed and buckled remains of the garage door. A tow chain is attached to the Escape SUV in preparation for pulling it off the Vette.

The extent of damage to the C4 Corvette is not stated in the article, and it isn’t clear from the pictures how severely damaged either vehicle in the incident may be.

The original news report says it is uncertain exactly why the accident occurred, noting “something happened with the accelerator.” The same source says the woman pressed on the gas pedal immediately before her SUV plunged headlong through the garage door.

In a vaguely similar incident in summer 2022, a Ford Explorer SUV ran over an Aqua Metallic C4 Corvette on the road after the SUV’s driver failed to notice the sports car. Video of the accident was posted to Reddit with no additional information about what happened.

In the 37-second clip, the SUV and Corvette meet at a three-way intersection apparently lacking stop signs. The Explorer drives up onto the Corvette’s hood, then proceeds to drive on the car with its driver side wheels propped up on the car’s body panels and window. When the SUV finally drives off the rear of the Corvette and comes to a stop, the driver side window of the Corvette has been visibly broken.

Since the woman is also the homeowner, it appears that she was parked in the driveway, started the Escape, put it in drive instead of reverse and pegged it to the floor. Perhaps her family should think about revoking her license. She can’t handle it.
