Chevy Sonic Driver Looks For Parking Spot, Finds Post: Video

Driving is one those activities that may seem pretty simple on the surface, but is still easy to screw up in a major way if you’re not careful. All it takes is a single wandering thought or distraction, and you could end up causing some significant damage, as the driver behind the wheel of this Chevy Sonic learns in the following crash video.

Recently making its way to social media, the video is short and simple, showing a low-speed Chevy Sonic crash in a parking lot.

Screen shot from a Chevy Sonic crash video in a parking lot.

The video appears as though it was caught from the dash cam of another vehicle, which just so happened to be pointing in the right direction at the right time. The video opens in a market parking lot, where we see a few shoppers meandering around and going about their business. It appears to be sometime in the evening, with a dark sky and lit light posts.

As the video gets underway, we see a Chevy Sonic hatchback driving slowly through the parking lot. The driver appears to be searching for a spot, and executes a gradual left-hand turn. Pedestrians are seen walking around the vehicle.

The driver, however, doesn’t appear to be looking where they’re going. The Chevy Sonic slowly arcs its way over to the left – right into a pedestrian walkway sign.

Despite the bright yellow color, Chevy Sonic driver smashes into the pole, the front end of the hatchback crumpling around the hard concrete. Although it’s obviously a bad situation for the Chevy Sonic driver, it’s interesting to see the front bumper of the hatchback so neatly crumple around the pole, creating a pile of plastic and rubber around its base. It looks as though the headlight got smashed as well, with the driver’s-side light beam wavering against the ground in the impact.

Luckily, the impact appears to be slow enough that the driver was probably unhurt. That said, it’s still a good reminder to keep your eyes forward when you’re behind the wheel:

  1. Feel sorry for the driver. This is a common and easy thing to do. I’ve almost done it a few times myself as you are scanning for pedestrians, other cars and a parking spot. Many years ago (about 2008) my parents who were driving a 2007 Buick Lacrosse had parked in the Walmart lot. When they came out, they realized that mom had opened the rear door to grab something. While doing so, she set the keys/fob on the rear seat and SOMEHOW!! managed to lock the car. Not thinking about using the Onstar to do the remote unlock, they called the local police who offered lockouts for motorists. The officer showed up and couldn’t get the car unlocked with the tools. After trying for a few minutes, he noticed the sticker with the number for Onstar and asked if they had it on. So they called the 800 number and a minute later the doors were unlocked. They thanked the officer and as he went to drive off, he ran into one of those bright yellow poles! My parents felt so bad.

  3. When I was shopping at a local grocery store, I saw a woman drive an upscale SUV into a pole. It was broad daylight. There were not that many vehicles in the parking lot. She was not near the front door either. Things happen.
