The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is offered as the fifth model year of the current fourth-generation pickup truck, ushering in several updates and changes compared to the refreshed 2022 model year. Some 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickups were equipped with non-functional power outlets, but now, GM is retrofitting affected units with the parts necessary to make this feature functional.
As GM Authority exclusively covered late last year, affected 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 units were built without functional instrument panel and bed-mounted 120V power outlets. Although affected units included the physical installation of these features, the features were non-functional when the vehicles were sold.
Affected units were produced as of September, 2022, and were indicated as being equipped with non-functional power outlets by the addition of RPO code 08R on the window sticker. As a result of the global microchip shortage, the onboard DC/AC inverter that operates the vehicle’s power outlets was made nonfunctional for certain 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 units. Affected trim levels include Silverado 1500 Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, and LT Trail Boss. The constraint did not affect WT, ZR2, LTZ, or High Country trim levels.
Now, however, GM is offering a free component retrofit to make these features functional for affected pickups. The components required to make these features functional include a handful of nuts, a fuse, and an inverter kit. GM technicians are instructed to install the accessory AC and DC power control module, install the fuse, and reprogram the body control module (BCM).
As for specs for the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500, the latest 2023 model year introduces a new diesel engine, specifically the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax, which is considered the “second interation” of GM’s Duramax 3.0L six-cylinder engine, replacing the LM2 offered previously. The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 also offers the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine.
Under the body panels, the Chevy Silverado 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Silao plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

How many 2022 vehicles still need reetrofits? My 22 is still waiting on heated steering wheel retrofit. 16 months and still circling the landing strip.
Have you contacted your dealer lately? I bought my 22 in august and my chip came in last month, but I had to call to ask about it.
Yes, check with your dealer. My retro fit was completed a couple months ago.
I am still waiting on my park assist.
I was just wondering why my 2021 Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss’s 110 outlets will not work for except to charge my phone. I read in manual that everything would work as long as it is less than 15 amps and not more than 400 watts.
On my GMC 2500 there is a toggle switch to turn the 110 volt outlet on and off.
Thanks for the reminder. Just called my dealership and the heated steering wheel retrofit is not available yet on my 22 Sierra 2500. They don’t have any other updates and said they haven’t done any of those heated steering wheel retrofits yet.
GM, I just purchased last week a new 2023 Silverado 1500, LTZ with 3.0 diesel.
My 2 outlets say they can only power a MAX of 400 watts. Is it possible to upgrade the inverter to 1KW or 2.5 KW like the new Fords have????? please????????????????
Anything is possible if 1 has enough determination and money.
