The Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV currently serve as The General’s entry-level all-electric vehicles, offering zero local emissions and surprising practicality, all at an affordable price point. Now, GM has confirmed that production of the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV will officially come to an end later this year. The announcement confirms a GM Authority exclusive published this past January.
During GM’s recent Q1 2023 earnings conference call, GM CEO Mary Barra confirmed that Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV production will end at the end of the calendar year. Both models are currently produced at the GM Lake Orion plant in Michigan. With the departure of the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV, the facility will be retooled to support production of the Chevy Silverado EV pickup following a substantial investment.
GM addressed the changeover with a statement:
“When the Chevrolet Bolt EV launched, it was a huge technical achievement and the first affordable EV, which set in motion GM’s all-electric future. As the company continues to grow its EV portfolio with the Ultium platform, and as construction continues at the Orion Township, Michigan assembly plant in preparation for battery electric truck production beginning in 2024, Chevrolet confirmed Bolt EV and EUV production will end late this year,” GM stated. “Chevrolet will launch several new EVs later this year based on the Ultium platform in key segments, including the Silverado EV, Blazer EV and Equinox EV.”
According to GM Authority sources, production of the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV will end on November 7th, 2023. For reference, production of the current 2023-model-year vehicles began in July of the 2022 calendar year. GM is planning on building 70,000 units of the all-electric models during 2023.
As a reminder, the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV both ride on the GM BEV2 platform. Both feature a front-mounted Voltec drive motor powered by a 65 kWh battery pack, with peak output rated at 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.
