With acres of gorgeous metal and a striking set of rear tail fins, the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz is nothing short of a true American icon, providing a summary in steel of a time when Cadillac unquestionably stood at the forefront of automotive luxury. Now, one skilled woodworker is carving the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz into a scale model, as seen in the following video.
Clocking in at a bit under 10 minutes, the video comes to us from the Awesome Woodcraft YouTube channel, and provides a satisfying summary of the steps that went into creating this surprisingly detailed 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz from a few slabs of wood.
If Awesome Woodcraft rings a bell, it’s because we’ve covered some the channel’s videos in the past, including a video detailing the creation of a second-generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Now, Awesome Woodcraft is back at it with the be-finned 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz, once again keeping the video simple and straightforward without any narration or overdubbed music.
After outlining the Caddy’s profile, the front, rear and mid-joints are added, as are the doors. From here, the profile is chiseled down to create the volume needed to recreate the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz’s body panels. Getting the curves just so probably isn’t easy, but Awesome Woodcraft looks to breeze through it with precision.
We next watch as the hood comes to life, with a sander and chisel working it down to the right angle, including that center ridge. The front fascia is carved out from a series of horizontal lines, and despite the intricacies of the grille, headlights, and bumper, the small bits of wood provide just the right design.
Details abound, with the engine bay of the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz model carved out to suggest a big V8 engine. Wheels, a dash, working suspension seats, and more are all added as well.
