General Motors has partnered with Netflix to feature a number of GM electric vehicles (EVs) in upcoming shows from the online streaming service. One of these is the Cadillac Lyriq, which is featured in a new comedy series named Unstable.
Released on March 30th, 2023, the Netflix-original follows Jackson Dragon (John Owen Lowe), the socially shy son of a successful yet eccentric father, Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe), and his journey working for his father at his high-tech bio research facility in order to help his dad recover from spiraling after the death of his wife.
It’s worth noting that this won’t be the first appearance of a GM electric vehicle in a new Netflix show or movie. As GM Authority previously covered, the partnership between GM and Netflix will see the likes of the Chevy Bolt EUV and GMC Hummer EV Pickup featured in upcoming flicks like Love is Blind and Queer Eye, respectively.
“We want to make EVs famous on streaming, small and silver screens to build an EV culture through storytelling that incorporates the experiences of driving and owning an EV,” GM Global Chief Marketing Officer, Deborah Wahl, was quoted as saying. “Netflix is a great partner because of the company’s compelling storytelling, commitment to sustainability and track record of sparking conversations that shape cultural trends.”
On Netflix’s ends, the streaming service has committed to enhancing its sustainability through optimized energy use, electrification efforts, and decarbonization efforts.
“At Netflix, we create shows and films that can influence culture and spark meaningful conversations,” Netflix Chief Marketing Officer, Marian Lee, was quoted as saying. “From the TikTok dance trends inspired by Wednesday to thoughtful discussions about climate change with Don’t Look Up, we know that entertainment can drive fandom and inspire connections.”

Will Lyriq eventually have Netflix build into the infotainment?
That’s important!!!
I know the Chinese Variant has capability to include online streaming service.
Can GM do it? Also; Blazer EV and on!!!
GM has placed their vehicles in many films and TV shows. The most famous were the Transformer movies such that some Autobots were GM vehicles. The two most famous brands in films and TV shows were Cadillacs and Chevys.
JAZZ was a Pontiac Solstice in the first live TRANSFORMERS movie and was the only Autobot that got killed in that movie. Go figure that GM would kill Pontiac soon after, lol.
The government and entertainment industry in the near future will be mandating all vehicles in movies or TV shows will have to be battery driven to save the planet.
I can’t wait to see and hear EVs in chase scenes, the loud revving of those electric motors, and long burnouts that are going to be heart-thumping and exciting. I wonder if they will create sequels to “The Fast and Furious” and John Wick, starting a long list of EVs?
I am going to miss those days of hearing the real rumble of 427’s and 454’s!
So the promo is showing this high tech advanced car driving around at night without any lights on…..seems like a good use of money.
Meanwhile, Tesla spends zero marketing dollars on product placement and delivers more than 20 times production when comparing quarter on quarter results. Different priorities, vastly different results.
Another Lyriq delivered to Hollywood and probably some actor in the end even though orders placed in 2021 and 2022 are still not filled. Stop advertising products you cannot deliver to the public. Once mass production starts then advertise!!
