Monthly production nearly doubled since February 2023, when GM produced 504 units of the Hummer EV. The GMC Hummer EV SUV was originally scheduled for a January 30th, 2023 start of regular production (SORP), but manufacture was delayed until February.

No Hummer EVs were produced in December 2022 or January 2023. The General took the GM Factory Zero plant in Detroit offline during these months while upgrading the facility for production of the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. Notably, all three EV nameplates are built on the GM BT1 platform.

GM recently said that it plans to strongly increase GMC Hummer EV production volume during the second half of the 2023 calendar year. Prospective customers placed approximately 90,000 reservations in total for the Pickup and SUV. The automaker stopped taking reservations for the GMC Hummer EV around the 90,000 mark.

At a recent media briefing, GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft learned from Global Vice President of Buick, GMC, and GMC Hummer EV at General Motors Duncan Aldred that reservations favor the Pickup configuration of GM’s beefy EV by somewhere between a 60/40 to 70/30 split. Aldred also said GM expected the SUV to be the more popular model back in 2021.

Additional information about the Hummer EV SUV became public in early April when Natural Resources Canada released energy consumption and range estimates for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV3X and Edition 1. The SUV’s three-motor trims offer 314 miles of range and a combined fuel consumption equivalent of 53 MPGe. EPA estimates are expected to be very similar to these metrics.

As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV features GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors, with the GMC Hummer EV SUV offers multiple all-electric powertrains, including both two-motor and three-motor setups.

Output for the SUV ranges between 625 horsepower and 830 horsepower. Meanwhile, the range-topping Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 produces 1,000 horsepower.

  1. Ok, now go build some Silverados! Oh I forgot, Mary shut down production because someone said there were too many in inventory??!! If that’s true, where are they?

    1. They’re clogging dealer lots with their 4-banger engines that few of us want.

  2. Where are the Hummers too. I haven’t seen ONE on the road.

    1. Good point, Crystal! If they’ve built that many, where are they storing them?

  3. I thought 1st Q sales were 2

    1. They did only sell 2 in Q1, not sure where these units are. And while I don’t consider 1k units produced a month successful ramping, I guess it is the new high bar for non full size ICE trucks for GM. I’ve still only seen one in the wild while I’ve seen at least 10 Rivian R1S SUVs in 2023.

  4. Well, we’ll see….. Supposedly they made over 8,000 Lyriqs in 2022, but I have yet to see one privately owned on the streets.

What I cannot figure out is how is gm hiding so many of these vehicles if they have supposedly manufactured them….

Since my 2023 (forced to be optional) BLACK LYRIQ was supposedly manufactured this week, per my Sales Manager, it will be interesting to see how long it takes to actually get to WNY where I am… I suspect if they pushed it from tennessee it would get here faster.

Since they have been out of BLUE PAINT for over a year now, I wonder if a build complication is that they have now run out of BLACK PAINT, the only color available for the LYRIQ, regardless of all the nonsense we’ve been told about fantastic color choices.

    1. Bill, I still have not seen a Lyric in the wild, but i have seen several Lucids and Polestars.

      1. Yeah mvb I am not going through this again. While hopefully my LYRIQ will ultimately be a good value, corporate GM is so far behind on its Ultium product launches that I will purchase an
American Made Kia EV-9 for my next vehicle.
Or a RAV4 Prime plug-in-hybrid should my VOLT need to be replaced, since with 3 plug-in-cars, I want ONE of them to run on emergency gasoline, just in case there is no juice for a while.

  5. Q’ when is the first line of Hummer EV3x coming off the line. I was sent an email that’s my Hummer EV3x was starting on the production line year end of 2024. I’m not should why it’s taking that long when, I was reserved my Hummer EV3x in the early time of the EV 1 when I had a choice of Hummers.
