2024 GMC Sierra To Offer New Power-Retractable Assist Steps

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 light-duty pickup arrives with several updates and changes over to the preceding 2023 model year and fully refreshed 2022 model year. One of those changes is the introduction of new power-retractable assist steps, as detailed here. The new power-retractable assist steps are available in 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4, and AT4X trim levels.

For the moment, pricing information on the new 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 power-retractable assist steps is not yet available. That said, the new assist steps will likely be black and feature LED lighting.

It’s also unclear at the moment how these new assist steps will differ from those currently offered by the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. Tagged with RPO code BRS, the assist steps currently offered are dubbed the GMC MultiPro Power Steps, and include foot-activated articulation for easier bed access. The GMC MultiPro power steps are available on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali trim level as a $1,195 option. Meanwhile, the feature is included as standard on 2023 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate trim levels.

Further updates introduced by the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 include the addition of the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine as standard for the off-roading AT4X trim level. The GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X was previously available exclusively with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine. The new LZ0 turbodiesel engine is rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

What’s more, 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4, AT4X, and SLT trim levels are now available with an active exhaust system. Offered in conjunction with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline unit, the new active exhaust includes built-in flaps that deliver a throatier exhaust note on demand.

In addition to the 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine and 6.2L V8 L87 engine already mentioned, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is also available with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B (now called TurboMax) gasoline engine and naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine. The GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. The start of regular production kicks off this July at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.

  1. Maybe AMP is supplying GM now? AMP has not had steps for the Escalade since the update in 2021 and keep saying they’re working on it. Really, into the 3rd year and can’t figure it out? There has to be a reason.

    1. I hope not. Amp steps are floppy compared to GM’s options, either the Multi-Pro or the HD/Yukon extending. But then it’s easier to replace a motor in the AMP steps than it is the GM ones, which just have to be tossed when they break.

  2. I’m guessing they will be very similar to the HD retractable steps.

  4. I have a 2021 gmc Sierra 1500 crew cab SLT trim. Why can’t anyone make a conversion kit for the Denali power steps so that other trim levels can enjoy the power steps as well??????????

  5. Install RealTree/AMP Research Power Steps. They’re better anyway except for the rear extension for reaching in the bed.

  7. I have them but they lack LIGHTS which makes it very difficult at night. Need to add a plug and play of some type of lights for these running boards
