The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq drops in as the second model year for Cadillac’s all-electric crossover, offering GM’s latest Ultium EV technology, as well as no shortage of comfort and luxury. The start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq was originally slated to kick off late last month, but now, GM Authority has learned that production of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq has been pushed back.
As GM Authority covered back in January, production of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq was originally set to get under way on March 20th, 2023. Now, however, GM Authority has learned that 2024 Cadillac Lyriq production has been pushed back to May 4th.
As before, production of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq will once again take place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. The final day of production for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq was originally scheduled for March 17th, 2023.
GM Authority reached out to Cadillac for comment on the production date pushback. A Cadillac spokesperson did not confirm the later start date, but did state that Cadillac is “on track to begin producing MY24 Lyriqs later this spring.”
Highlights for the new 2024 Cadillac Lyriq include the introduction of a new trim level called Tech. The Cadillac Lyriq Tech trim level is tagged with the 1SA equipment group, and slots in as the new base-level trim below the Luxury and Sport trim levels. Pricing for the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Tech starts at $58,590, including destination freight charge (DFC).
As GM Authority covered in February, some 2023 Cadillac Lyriq orders have been shifted to the 2024 model year, as confirmed by Cadillac Global Vice President Rory Harvey. Affected customers will receive an incentive for switching to the later model year.
As reported in March, a Cadillac spokesperson previously confirmed with GM Authority that in addition to the Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition, GM will also produce non-Debut Edition units of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, including Cadillac Lyriq AWD and Cadillac Lyriq RWD variants.
The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq rides on the GM BEV3 platform, and features GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors for motivation.

At least tell the customer for 2024, why the delay? Another month delay?
I’m thinking, did Cadillac actually fill all the 2023 order or not?
I dont really know what is going on behind the scenes but this lyriq launch has really been a s**tshow. they have had dozens of delays and production problems, spent millions on advertising a car nobody could buy and are barely shipping them to consumers. Tesla had a more smooth launch with the model y and at the time that company wasn’t even 15 years old. gm better get their act together or else the next decade will be the decade that ends gm. A very simple plan, fire Mary Barra, bring back Dan Amman or someone who knows how to do business, streamline certain parts of the business that are still run very inefficiently and start hiring people based on their skills not on their skin color.
And cancel this whole money losing EV thing and go back to gas.
Here’s a conversation from 100 years ago between a guy that breeds draft horses and a guy that makes horse tack.
Look at those idiots and their automobile. It only goes a few miles on a tank, and you have to buy fuel at a pharmacy. What a bunch of morons.
You can be a dinosaur if you want.
Q: How can you tell Cadillac VP Rory Harvey is lying and his public statements are pure fantasy?
A: His lips are moving.
It looks like Cadillac is going to meet all of its outstanding orders by delaying production so long that 95% of those on the waiting list will cancel and buy a Tesla or an Ionic 5.
Model Y was a slightly larger Model 3 and shared 75% of the components and used almost exactly the same production process.
Better would be to look at how Tesla fumbled the Model 3 launch and nearly went bankrupt because of it.
Bert: the short answer is NO, and I’m still waiting on a car I ordered almost a year ago!
They have not filled all 2023 orders. Just talked to my buddy who gave his dealer a deposit over a year ago and has heard nothing since. Not a peep.
Just heard that they have finally built my 2023 Luxury Trimmed Lyriq – the VIN assigned is in the very low 3000’s… So that puts the LIE that tens of thousands of LYRIQs have been manufactured… Mine was made last week, per the Sales Manager at my dealership.
No clue as to when it will be transported from Tennessee to Buffalo, NY though. But at least the end is in sight.
I was one of the people allowed to place an order for a 2023 before the orders opened to the public. Since that time, the 2023 model came and went – no delivery – not a word from the Cadillac until about two months ago. Went something like this – ’23 closed, ’24 open – please reorder your Lyric – oh, and the color you wanted is no longer offered so that will be a change you’ll have to make.
So I ordered the ’24 that day. The system accepted it and said that my dealer would be calling me shortly to confirm the order and discuss the details. 3 months have passed. Not one peep from the Dealer or GM about the Lyric order or an ETA for delivery.
Since I placed the ’24 order, I’ve sent emails every three weeks to the dealer (3 total) politely asking for an update. They have responded to one of them. They said “We don’t have any update from GM. We’re sorry.” Seriously that was the exact wording.
I have a Tesla M3 and a Ford MachE. The MachE is a very nice car.
At this point, I have zero confidence in Cadillac’s ability to delivery on the Lyric this year. I’m getting rid of the Tesla and will likely replace it with a MachE GT.
This nonsense from Cadillac and GM is dumbfounding.
I had placed myself on the dealer waiting list for the 2024 one, last week the dealer called telling me they have a 2023(RWD) which a customer does not want. The sticker mentioned prince around $63K but the dealer wants me to pay a mandatory fee of $6900 for an 8 year bumper to bumper service + $1400 for a anti theft the dealer installed + $2400 for auto butler(3 years) . I asked multiple times why do i have to pay $10700(6900+2400+1400) extra for things i dont want/need and the answer was, other dealers are charging a markup we are offering value if you are not willing to pay then i have 100s of people waiting for this car i will sell to them.
Man this is really disgusting, this dealership model is just money game and you cannot order it online. Online says dealership will decide the final price. Having seconds thoughts now on how bad this system is, dealerships are overcharging for no good reason
“ dealerships are overcharging for no good reason”
He gave you the reason. Claims they have potentially 100’s or customers willing to pay.
It’s just capitalism, my friend.
There should be a class action lawsuit against Cadillac for all the users like myself that have been strung along for over a year. If anyone knows of one, I will join.
They have not yet even filled all the Debut orders from what I have read in other articles. Pretty sad for a company of this size. Of course if you fly to China you can buy one with only a month or two delay with a discounted price, longer range and more power…you just can’t bring it back to the US with you.
Since folks have had production dates for 2023 models running into May for months, the information that production of 2024s would start in March was always suspect.
Jim and Bert:
Yes that is true.. My sales manager has told me repeatedly my (unwanted color optional) BLACK 2023 Lyriq was committed by the factory to be built the week of April 17 th, in other words, this week, for months now.
Where GMA got the initial end of production date never made any sense.
Now of course the questions not only are why cannot gm run a production line, but also, why have they for the past year run out of Blue Paint?
yuk – thiink im gonna cancell
The Big Tease continues on…..
No adults in charge at GM.
At least they are diverse, supporting BLM, and men can wear dresses.GM for all.
Does anyone believe Cadillac will sell even sell 5000 Lyriqs annually. I sympathize with the Cadillac dealers who will be saddled with this flop. They had a decent seller with the CT5.
GM is a disgrace.
We ordered the AWD last year the day reservations opened and based on the initial estimate they gave us, it should have been ready by now. There have been no updates from the dealership or from Cadillac. The only updates we get on the delivery timeframe are from articles like this one. We recently found out that our order was converted to a 2024 and the price of our vehicle went up even with the “generous” $5,000 discount. I called the Lyriq concierge and they were completely useless, they had no answers or information on anything and told me to call the dealership. Called the dealership and they said they have no clue either, they are hoping that the car will be ready sometime in the next 9 months… really helpful. If there’s already so much demand for this vehicle and they can’t actually deliver it to customers, maybe they should have been putting the money for the superbowl ads towards hiring competent engineers and logistics personnel. GM isn’t innovative, forward thinking, or environmentally concerned like Tesla, they’re just following a company who finally disrupted a stagnant industry. We’re going to see a Lyriq at a dealership on Monday (not allowed to even drive it) and unless it really blows us away, we’re canceling our order next week and going with the Model Y (with the recent price cuts) or the iX which we test drove and were blown away by. Was looking forward to becoming a loyal Cadillac person, but we’ve lost faith in GM. This is rollout is ridiculous for an established car company.
Chris: Tesla just dropped their prices on some cars last night (PM 4/18/23) so take a look at the price now.
My Lyriq order went in a few days after the free for all on 5/19/22, and fortunately I can and will wait after sitting in one. It is a fantastic car and the few owners report it drives and rides “like a Cadillac”.
The one I got to sit in was available because a person backed out after delivery and the dealer had it on the floor, but with several thousands of dollars of “market adjustment “ – it still sold while I was looking at it!
If you look around on the several Cadillac forums, you will find that you are not alone in bailing out. It’s difficult to tell how representative that group is of those on the waiting lists, but the numbers of cancelled orders must be substantial.
The inept GM management has done more to stimulate Tesla sales than the government tax credit or the price drops since January. With how badly GM sales are doing in China right now (their largest market) if they can’t get their act together here quickly, they may need another bailout.
Yep, I am aware! It’s now almost $20K less than the Lyriq we configured, I think I can probably give up ventilated seats for that amount… I am test driving the 2023 Model Y now on Friday. They supposedly upgraded the suspension in October 2022 to their new comfort suspension, so excited to see how it rides. That was one of my gripes about it being too stiff before. The long range Model Y has a longer range than the lyriq awd, is anticipated to have slightly faster acceleration, has more rear cargo capacity in addition to a frunk and the same passenger space somehow, has better tech, has accessories like roof racks readily available, has most of the kinks worked out at this point, it looks slightly better in my opinion, they come to your house for most things if it ever needs service, and it can actually be delivered in 1-3 months. We test drove the BMW iX recently and that car will probably beat both the Lyriq and the Model Y in ride quality on their air suspension and in trim quality, but it costs a fortune and looks like a beaver unfortunately. I think it’s unlikely at this point we’ll stick it out with the Lyriq, but Friday with Tesla and Monday at the Cadillac dealership should tell which direction we’re headed.
Chris:
Keep us informed about what you decide and why.
I stayed away from the Model Y because of Elon’s erratic behavior (those who bought in December now have cars that are worth considerably less after the price drops) and the reported rough ride.
I’m particularly interested if Tesla has improved the ride quantity.
I’ll report back on Monday.
I got lucky and found a Cadillac dealership that had a Lyriq available for test drive. After driving all 3 vehicles, I would rank them iX, Lyriq, and then Model Y. If you consider price though, it becomes a really difficult decision at ~$90K, ~$70K, and ~$50K respectively.
The Model Y has made some slight improvements to the ride quality and noise, but it’s still not up to par with the Lyriq. The Lyriq’s ride isn’t quite as good as BMW’s air suspension either, but it’s not far off. The Lyriq lacked power vs the other two, but I have to imagine the AWD version will solve that.
I didn’t love the exterior styling of any of the 3. I like the looks of the Lotus Eletre, Kia EV9, Rivian R1S, etc. better. We are already getting an R1S as our large, 3 row, off-road capable SUV for the mountains because the EV9 is too far out, and we aren’t considering the Eletre as our second smaller vehicle because of the price. I’m not sure why Cadillac didn’t make the Lyriq a little taller, it looks a little out of proportion like a raised limousine or something and would have benefited from a bit more head room and cargo space. I get that they wanted it to be aerodynamic as well, but the side profile of the backend still looks odd to me and a lot of the detailing feels too forced and busy. The BMW just looks plain bad with it’s beaver tooth grill. I think the exterior of the iX and the Lyriq will both be passable though in black, with the sport package, with tinted windows, and black wheels.
I don’t love the aesthetics of any of the interiors either, but all 3 are passable. Again, I like the interior aesthetics of the Rivian, Eletre, etc. a lot better. The quality of materials were the best in the iX. I saw someone who installed an i7 steering wheel on their iX and it worked seamlessly and looked way better than the octagon steering wheel that it comes with. Would likely do that if we go with the iX. I think the iX had the most comfortable seats as well. I found the Lyriq seats to be a bit stiffer than I’d like, but hopefully they’d soften up and break in over time. The addition of cooling and massaging in the Lyriq is a big advantage over the Model Y who’s seats get pretty hot in the summer. You can’t control the massaging function from the touch screen though and good luck figuring out the little wheel they put on the door panel to control it lol. I do like that the Lyriq and iX have some physical controls for the HVAC vents, etc. I’m not sure why Cadillac is still trying to put chrome everywhere though…
Just saw this article the other day. It looks like the AWD Lyriq’s may not start production until the end of the summer which means I’m not all that optimistic about getting one this year even with having one of the first preorders: https://gmauthority.com/blog/2023/04/2024-cadillac-lyriq-production-start-pushed-back/ For us, this delay in being able to get a Lyriq is currently the biggest draw back to it. There also aren’t may accessories like roof racks for skis and things available yet. The Model Y and iX are much easier to get and a bit more established.
We’re going to wait and see what happens with AWD Lyriq timeline over the next month, but I think we’re slightly leaning towards sticking it out. The iX is already pushing the budget and it doesn’t quality for the EV tax credit like the Tesla and the Lyriq do. I think the Lyriq and the Tesla are probably a better value when you factor that in, and plenty good for what we need. The Tesla felt like we were buying essentially the same vehicle as the Model 3 that we’ve been driving the last 6 years, so I kind of want to switch up and try something new. Don’t think you can go wrong with any of the 3 vehicles, but if you qualify for the tax credit and don’t mind waiting, I think the Lyriq might have the slight edge over the other two.
Audi Q4 is hot car. Looking at it. Love the outside and inside. Sportsback
A stripped down rear wheel Q4 starts at the same price as a dual motor, long range, Model Y. The Model Y qualifies for the EV tax credit, so it’s actually $7,500 cheaper than the Q4. Comparison: 201 HP vs 390 HP. 265 mile range vs 330 mile range. 10″ screen vs 15″ screen. Just trying to figure out how to do over the air updates vs best tech in the industry. The etrons look decent, but I’ve been kind of blown away by how non-competitive the Audi’s are with other brands. I would steer clear, you can get much better cars for better value IMO.
I love IX, I feel the car is built better. I also feel the interior is much nicer.
Agreed, I just test drove and compared them above.
Chris, you got to test drive the Lyriq
Got lucky! A different dealership’s owner received 2 and decided to keep one and use the other for test drives. Felt bad since I already had an order in with a different dealership, but I just had to know how it drives.
Chris, you had to do what you had to do. How did it drive and is it worth the wait. I really considering the IX but it cost a lot more with less features. It’s hard to pass up all you get with Lyriq. Trust me, I have seen every ev and gone over there specs. I might just have to wait or go for EV9. Your thoughts!!!
Jay, the Lyriq drove really well. Maybe not quite as good as the iX, but significantly better ride quality than the Model Y. The RWD one I drove lacked power compared to the iX, but I think the AWD should be close. At about $20K less than the iX, plus the tax credit, I think the Lyriq is probably a better value. I think we’re going to wait it out for the Lyriq. We were debating more between the Model Y, the Lyriq, and the iX as our crossover SUV and the Rivian R1S vs the KIA EV9 as a full size, 3 row SUV. If you’re debating between the Lyriq and the EV9, I think the two big factors are whether you’d prefer a big 3 row SUV or a smaller 2 row SUV and whether you need the vehicle soon or are OK with waiting a while. The EV9 hasn’t even started taking preorders yet which indicates to me that it’s going to be a long time before they’re delivering. They should both qualify for the EV tax credit as I believe the EV9 is also being manufactured in the US and should be under $80K. The EV6 is winning all kinds of awards, so you have to imagine they’ll probably knock it out of the park with the EV9 as well. The EV9 interior and exterior both look awesome so far. I think you’d be really happy with either vehicle, just depends on your needs.
Thank you so much for response. I agree IX price point is to much. I could do either the Lyriq or EV9. I will wait for either car. I feel that I am not going to get the Luxury 3 Lyriq for another 8 months. I will put my name on EV9 when they let me as long as they do MSRP. GM has a great car in their hands but it’s not in the hands of the customer. GM should give more than the $5000 to all of us for waiting over year for their prize car.
Model Y is a $50k car with the interior of a $15k car. Ok, maybe $25k.
I have a model 3, and while I like aspects of it, the interior is not a high point, and maybe they have improved, but it’s noisy (wind and road) and rattles and squeaks after only 30k miles.
Make sure you get a test drive of the Lyriq before making a final decision.
Apparently they’ve improved the wind and road noise pretty dramatically as well as the build and ride quality. Will hopefully find out this afternoon. I can’t test drive the AWD Lyriq because they still haven’t started making them yet. The best they said they can do is let me come in and sit in a 2023 RWD prototype that will be at the dealership for training on Monday, but they said no test drives. That will likely be all that I’ll get to experience before making our decision unfortunately.
Audi Q4 is hot car. Looking at it. Love the outside and inside. Sportsback.
Mary Barra needs to be let go if this continues into the highly important Silverado and Nox BEV launches.
This is becoming highly inexcusable. Tesla is eating everyone’s lunch and it is becoming embarrassing for Legacy.
When Tesla hits 5 Million Annual Vehicle Sales by 2025 as I have been predicting on this site for years, I wonder what excuses the naysayers will be coming up with. GM has ZERO excuses leapfrogging almost all Legacy Auto with proper from the Ground up BEV designs and they have managed to sell like 1000 Ultimuim BEV’s
You sir are correct, GM (along with all legacy auto) is losing ~20-25% of their ICE sales in China that will never come back and their BEV offerings are underwhelming relative to Chinese and Tesla counterparts in China. China profit and 25-30% of GM’s China volume is evaporating and not coming back. GM is the current #5 global automaker (Toyota/VW/Stellantis/Hyundai) by volume from #1 (>10M) in 2016 and 5.9M in 2022. GM will be lucky to sell 5M in 2023, so Tesla has a real shot to become the largest US based automaker in 2025 – most predict 2027, but its inevitable by the end of the decade. GM needs to get its sh!t together and figure out how to scale something beyond a full size truck or it will be bankrupt within 2 years as its losing scale. GM is fumbling away this ‘protectionist’ IRA opportunity with BEVs while Hyundai and others are building US factories and will be producing their BEVs within a year or two. GM’s leadership is absent while Rome is burning, still running commercials for BEVs it can’t make or years away. At least Jim Farley sees the writing on the wall and is doing everything he can to save Ford. As a lifelong GM fan and owner of more than 12 GM vehicles over the years, it is sad to watch a great American Icon race toward oblivion and yet most at GM and many posters on here don’t even see it coming. If you thought the wave of Japanese autos greatly diminished US automakers, wait until the massive Chinese wave of BEVs (built in NAFTA friendly Mexico) arrives in a few years (Polestar and Volvo are already here).
When Barra took the helm she stated a strategy of prioritizing profits over volumes. That they have dropped volume over the years should not come as a surprise. They managed record profits last year, and despite less focus on volumes their truck divisions keep eating Ford for lunch, beating them out.
China is definitely in the doghouse in the US right now. I am not sure I would bet on China having a significant presence in US auto sales in the near future. At this point I would purchase a vehicle manufactured or designed in any other country other than China. I know that is purely a political argument, but we can’t afford to support a government (all chinese businesses are at least partially owned by their communist government) that violates human rights and represses personal freedoms like the Chinese government.
“ that violates human rights and represses personal freedoms”
People in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones.
The US is not stellar on human rights issues, with a huge population of minorities in prisons. And then add the GQP banning educators from discussing race and diversity, gender and sexual orientation, banning books, firing teachers for showing classic ancient art to students, banning women from making their own healthcare choices with their caregivers.
You are welcome to buy your cars from China. I was only stating that many will choose not to buy their cars from them. Cancel culture is quite popular in the US right now.
2023 is still the beginning of their ramp, wouldn’t really expect bigger volumes until end of 2023 and through 2024. That’s what they’ve been guiding for awhile.
Then they shouldn’t be advertising vehicles that won’t be selling for a few years and taking deposits on them. The Feds needs to get involved and start handing out fines for advertising vehicles that are not really in a production mode. Competitors appear to at least have their vehicles in their showrooms and within a few months of their advertising and delivery within a quarter or two…not years.
NOT GOOD CADILLAC 😐 😕 😞!!!
I will say that at least Ford communicates the status of orders to their customers. I ordered a Maverick back in 2022 two months before the Lyriq from a Ford dealership. They placed my order but told me they had submitted hundreds of orders already and my chances of it being filled in the 2023 year was slim so I should try other dealerships too (they had a no money down policy). I remember receiving an email from Ford last year saying my order had been submitted but I figured it would go nowhere. A week ago I received a surprise email from Ford giving me a production date in June, VIN# and a link showing the all the features and options that will be installed on the vehicle. It was already scheduled for production so no changes could be made but it had everything I had asked the dealership to install. The link is accessible at any time and shows the current status of the vehicle. I am trying to find out if GM Cadillac has this same type of online customer setup since I have an order number for my Lyriq from Cadillac but I haven’t found any online links that allow a customer to view their order.
I put in a $100 deposit late last year for a Lyriq. Now after a few delays and multiple Tesla Y price drops, I decided to cancel my order. I called last week and talked to a salesperson at my local Cadillac dealer. He said he will relay the message to the Sales manager. Yesterday I called back and was transferred to the Sales department but nobody picked up the phone. I left a message asking for a refund and so far no communication from the dealer. I will call again until I get my refund back. This is not good for Cadillac in general. Now I hope they will have the Equinox EV by the end of this year, and if it’s around $30K that they promise, then I will put my order in. I don’t think it will be that cheap.
I was interested in it too…but that 30K goes to around 38K for AWD with the larger battery but that is still the mid range as far as the options go….so I would be in the 40s right off the bat….but it may get the full tax credit..hopefully.
I don’t believe anybody in GM’s management reviews any of these comments. If they did then they would address the discontent of customers. GM over promised and under delivered. It’s obvious to me that GM’s senior management is incapable of reversing the horrable launch of the Lyriq. The absence of a serious effort to reverse the Lyriq rollout debacle is bad enough but what’s worse is GM’s management is ok with it. Sad.
My theory is the Lyriq was always a 2024 launch vehicle, the original program just took that long from the very beginning.
But GM came under such significant stock market pressure because Ford had a huge jump on them with the Mach-E and Lightening they decided to create a phony and imaginary 2023 Lyriq launch story, complete with an early customer reservation process, a unicorn DE model and maximum advertising hype. All to convince Wall Street they were an EV leader.
The result was a huge reservation list that was never intended to be filled, endless false statements about production starting “next month”, a tiny number of no option DE models actually built that were more like preproduction units used to save face, the inevitable rollovers to the real 2024 production plan with completely different 2024 pricing. And massive customer anger and dissatisfaction.
It’s clear Lyriq reservation holders were just used by GM for this deception. I will always remember this abuse of customer goodwill and therefore will most likely be cancelling my Lyriq order. This was my first Cadillac experience, but based on this I will never consider buying a Cadillac again.
We’re talking about a vehicle and we can’t get away from hate and racism. Very disappointed where our country finds itself right now.
Someone described it as a sh$$ show and I couldn’t agree more! I ordered mine in September 2021 and still no car delivery.
Further compounding it is the dealership I chose doesn’t seem to know what the hell they are doing either. Calling Cadillac doesn’t help either. They know nothing and direct you back to the dealership that know nothing… a circle of insanity!!
All they tell you is “be patient…” um… how patient are we supposed to be??? The car’s expected delivery was Fall 2022… folks it’s Spring 2023 and their are zero updates!!!
I have never been more frustrated. It is actually more a total cluster fu$$ if you ask me! Shame on you Cadillac!
Please consider promises and non-delivery of the Tesla Cybertruck, which was announced with great fanfare in 2019 and production was initially slated for 2021. Since then multiple production delays have occurred. As of today, Tesla has delivered 0 Cybertrucks and mass production is now scheduled for Q3 2023 or 2024. The Lyriq was also announced in 2019 and preordering started in Q3 2021 and 2Q of 2022. I ordered mine in May 2022. In drips and drabs GM has delivered the car. This does not excuse GM’s Lyriq debacle. I want GM to be successful with this vehicle so for me if Tesla customers can wait 4+ years, I’m willing wait.
Agreed, but Tesla is not an established manufacturer like GM is and yet they were the first ones truly innovating modern EV battery technology, automated driving technology, over the air software updates, super charging networks, a direct to consumer model, etc. The cybertruck’s frame is largely being manufactured as a single piece of stainless steel in an 8,000 ton press. Almost everything about that vehicle is unique and novel. That being said, I’m disappointed in the cybertruck’s rollout as well because I have a preorder on one of those too, but at least it’s a bit more understandable.
GM invented the idea of a skateboard chassis for EVs. Tesla just popularized it.
Good evening,
First this is the most unprofessional company, that I have seen a long time. They don’t communicate with anyone. I am scared to keep my order because if they have issues with car, what will they do for us. It’s not a cheap car and you except a different experience with Luxury Car companies. I was going to switch over to Cadillac but I might just have to cancel my order. They don’t care anyway because they have a waiting list. So, why worry about any customers.
All this pre-order drama is why I won’t put money down on a car and wait for months to years hoping and wonder ping if it will ever come.
I will wait patiently until there are cars available on the lots without markups, test drive it, and take it home that day. It may mean having to wait for used cars to show up, but I’m fine with that.
I don’t know why people are so impatient to get the latest and greatest. It’s just a car, people. Good grief.
I agree but lease was up. Now I am without car because of GM. They don’t care about the customer.
I’m at the age where the Lyriq will probably be my last car. While I have a nice low mileage ICE car that I could continue to drive until the market turns to what you predict, I can’t wait many more additional years …. which is the way Cadillac is going it will take. During the intervening time the value of my current car will continue to decrease and the price of new cars will continue to rise.
The Lyriq by all reports rides very well while the Model E does not and the Lyriq I sat in has a great interior. I can’t see spending Tesla money on a car whose interior looks half assembled, no matter how great it’s technology. YMMV.
I agree that the lack of communication has been terrible. The rumor is there are software issues that GM is having problems with. GM Authority has published lots of misinformation, such as number of cars actually built, when 2024 production begins, etc.
Those blaming Mary Barra are way off base, except criticism for not hiring better engineers.
As far as China, Volkswagon is having the same issue with sales in China.
I love the way the Lyriq looks. I will continue to wait. I want a car that is trouble free over rushing to get it delivered. I do hope to get some compensation from GM for the delay and higher price.
What source do you have that shows GM authority information was wrong?
Yes what source do you have that its misinformation.
Has any owners posted video on their experience with their Lyriq.
Can anyone here tell us what the hell is really going on with GM’s U.S. EV production? Is it a problem with the LG pouch batteries? The Chinese Lyriq uses cylindrical batteries in place of the pouches in an otherwise identical architecture and they’re cranking them out like cookies.
Rick:
The issue is that Cadillac/GM WON’T SAY what the real problem is!
They produced a couple of thousand Lyriqs in 2022, but only delivered about 200. After the fact, they said they had put on a delivery hold in order to work out the production bugs – rear hatches that cracked, dash display issues, software and hinted at supply chain issues (chips, wheels & batteries??). There has been NO communication with dealers or the public. In fact, one salesman said he was tired of being lied to by the manufacturer reps.
Was this an effort to keep stock prices up, fear of embarrassment for the inability to meet production goals, parts shortages or ????? We just don’t know.
It is the lack of honesty, near total silence and ignoring prior public statements while making new optimistic ones and simultaneously spending huge sums of money on advertising for a vehicle that was not available (in the US, but is in China), that has people angry.
I can and will continue to wait for delivery of my Lyriq because after sitting in one I’m hooked. I’m now estimating delivery in December of this year or Q1 2024 on a May 25, 2022, place on the waitlist.
I’m a big boy….tell me the truth and I will deal with it. However, if I ever buy another new car, after being treated as a customer with such indifference, it certainly won’t be a GM product.
So sorry to read about the situation with your Lyriq. Methinks GM & LG have a big problem with manufacturing the pouch batteries. GM cancelled a third joint venture battery plant they planned with LG in Indiana a month or so back. Now, GM is quickly investing in other battery & battery tech suppliers. Understand that this is all new cutting edge technology. It’s very hard to go from the engineering lab to the production line and crank out this stuff in volume, but if General Motors can’t do it, who can? The same vehicle with cylindrical batteries is coming off the line in China on schedule just like it should. That’s what leads me back to a problem with LG. I sense promises not kept and or technology that can’t be delivered.
After the LG battery fires in Chevy Bolts last year, GM halted production and recalled Bolts. LG had to reimburse GM $1.9 Billion for defects in their batteries which caused the fires. That’s when things took a turn in relations between GM and LG Chem, in my opinion. These production delays were unforeseen.
General Motors NEVER would have announced Lyriq production, started marketing and advertising and taken orders such as yours if they didn’t think they were ready. There are more untold billions at stake here. GM’s billions. A blown launch like this is money never recovered, not to mention the loss of the good will of countless customers like you who were genuinely excited about this new electric car. The complete stonewalling of what’s really going on here says it all. Good luck to you with your upcoming Lyriq. I’m sure once it’s delivered it will be a great car. They really have no other choice!

A ‘Mature’, or “Adult” company would have foreseen or otherwise anticipated this type of trouble.
But I suspect they collectively were too dumb to realize problems until they were staring them in the face…
Its bad news when CHINA can actually manufacture essentially the same vehicle – perhaps GM should eat some Humble Pie and analyze their successes.
For around the past 40 years – I wondered when Incompetent GM management would get so Gawd-Awful that it would filter in a BIG WAY down to products ‘allegedly’ offered for sale.
That day has arrived.
It’s official! Cadillac sales at Costa Mesa Cadillac in CA have sunk to a new low! This just happened…
I get a call asking me to come in. They know how frustrating it has been waiting for the car I ordered. They’ll sell me the showroom model! Yahoo!!! I am jazzed!! Finally, they’re listening and providing good service…
AFTER I take it for a test drive and ask them to get moving on paperwork, they will only sell it with a $15K mark-up. They won’t honor the fact I have one on order without the mark-up. I pointed out that they’d make their “extra” $15K when they sell the one I ordered. But no, they want to make $30K off me. They weren’t try to make a frustrated customer happy that’s been waiting since September 2021, they are trying to take advantage us and make more money…Shame on Cadillac!! What a damn disappointment! I’ll keep waiting..
The real live Lyriq that I as able to see, touch and sit in (but not test drive) was in the showroom because the original would be owner had bailed and the car was “available”….with a $10K “market adjustment”.
I too was offered the “opportunity” to move up the waitlist and take that vehicle, but passed because of the white interior, RWD and I don’t “need” a Lyriq that badly.
I sort of panicked about the MA and was told by the sales manager that Cadillac had told them that they could add on MAs for cars where the person who ordered it declined delivery, but they had better not do it to someone who accepted their original order, or GM would reduced future allocations to them.
If I were you, I would have a similar conversation with your dealer’s sales manager – not your sales person who has a vested interest in not telling you the truth, or who has the authority of a manager.
What dealers are attempting to do with these MAs is why the dealership business model needs to die and things go to the direct manufacturer to consumer model Tesla uses.
Michele Morton:
That’s a great deal…. I was told by a dealership in Virginia that I could pick up an extra ‘DEBUT’ BLACK (since they have run out of Blue Paint a year ago) for only $60,000 plus a $25,000 mark up – that they NEED to charge the ‘Market Adjustment’ to pay for all the silly superfluous fast chargers GM is making them install. Or I could wait until 2025 (!) for a 2024 model year delivery.
I declined.
Guys,
Latest news that I got from one of the dealers. They will be building the Tech 1, luxury 1 and Sports 1 only right now. They are having trouble with the ability to supply super cruise components. With that said, either you wait for 6 to 8 months for Luxury 3 or sports 3 or you find a 2023 rear wheel drive. I will keep my order for now but I will continue to look at all the new Ev’s that are coming out. I am really considering the BMW IX 50. I hope this message helps everyone. If anyone hears of anything else, please let me know. Thank you
Hi Jay thanks for the information..
It looks like the production people are developing at least half a brain, and are turning out all these simpler trims (No autonomous driving, plain-jane 7 speaker radio, no 120 volt inverter) to at least get product on the streets, leaving the more esoteric stuff for when they can get it working.
You would think they would have done this type of thing from the start, but better late than never.
Where does that leave the Luxury 2 with AWD?
Same as Luxury 3. It has super cruise. For what I hear, you will not see it for months. I am talking about Luxury 2 and 3 will be delayed. Only base models.
I am a former quality engineer who worked for an auto manufacturing company and I understand the value of great-built autos, I believe this time GM is focused on quality first, instead of pushing a product out the door. The question should be asked, ” Do I want a new vehicle with quality defects or a great auto without quality defects?” GM has been plagued with quality issues before and it pushed customers to other car dealerships. This time GM wants to ensure its customers that when they experience the all-new Cadillac Lyriq they will enjoy a new experience like never before in their history of building autos. Now, I test-drove the all-new Lyriq and the response that I first experienced was that GM has put the Cadillac back into this Lyriq model. Before you bash GM I would wait until you test-drive this model. I promise you your thoughts will change and you will be very impressed at what they have produced. As I close, “Do you want a new experience or another defected launch project?” Great quality is what I am waiting on.
I and many others understood that there would be production issues with a first year model not to mention with a type of car that will be relatively new for GM. I expected that and am pleased that GM is assuring that we get a quality product when it is finally delivered. None of us like to spend days repeatedly with our cars in the shop for safety and quality issues that were not caught in the production QC. Being an involuntary beta tester is not fun.
However, what I don’t understand and will not forgive GM/Cadillac for is the near total blackout of information to those who were given vastly overly optimistic delivery dates, no communication other than automated replies, given the runaround by the Cadillac concierge, lies to their dealers (per my dealer), huge sums of advertising money spent last winter for a car that is still unavailable and has no projected delivery date, etc, etc, etc. Mary Barra and her executive team are handsomely compensated to make decisions that are in the best interest of the company. I can’t fathom what they have done, and continue to do, benefits GM.
All they need to do is to be HONEST with the dealers and their would be customers. We can handle the truth, even if the answer is “we don’t know, this is what is going on and why. We will update you when we have better information”.
Case in point. Now there is unofficial information that 2024 production will begin with base trim cars and those of us who ordered a Lux2 or higher trim are due for a long wait. If this is true, WHY doesn’t Cadillac not tell those of us who have ordered higher trims how long the wait will be and why?
There is one conspiracy theory floating around that Cadillac priced the car too low and is now loosing too much money per car, so they are slow walking the production and won’t admit it to keep their stock price from tanking.
While it does fit how GM has behaved, we probably won’t know the truth until some former GM exec eventually writes a book.
Meanwhile, Cadillac/GM has severely damaged the brand with people like me who will wait for their Lyriq because it will be a great car, but may not ever buy another Cadillac product because of how they were treated.
My dealer called and said he’s finally allowed to send my order in. I had to forgo the super fast charge capability, but I’m excited. Glad I stayed with it. Quality is what counts!! Thanks for the positive message.
Hi Keith!
Please explain what you mean when you say you had to forgo the super fast charging capability..
My 2023 luxury trimmed LYRIQ has a 16-19 kw level 2 charger and about 150 kw fast charging capability.
At home due to my limited facilities I can only do 40% of this max level 2 rate but at a 350 kw fast charger I can get the 150 kw. I got the car April 28th.
Hi Bill,
I was told by my salesman that could put my order as long as I was willing to go without a charging option that I chose. They gave me a $1500 credit. I’m pretty certain the option was a 19.2 kw capable onboard charging module (k20).
Oh ok Keith….
I wonder since the 2024 build price initially was $1,980 for the 19.2 kw unit over the now universally standard 11 kw model. Seems like a $1,500 discount is a bit too stingy.
Hi Keith!
Just checked the updated 2024 brochure. They don’t come out and directly say it, but whereas the now 19.2 kw charger used to be unavailable for the Tech only, it is now Also unavailable for the Luxury 1 and Sport 1 trims. They did LOWER the price $500 to $1,480 however.
If they still disallow it for higher trims they must be putting all the large chargers in the Hummers.
That is why I thought it was so silly to put the 80 ampere models in All 2023s like mine, since I and the vast majority of others would not need it.. As I say 32 amps is fine by me and for most people 48 standard is more than enough and they should have saved the 80s for YOU and Hummer buyers who were stuck with only 48 the first year.
Hey Bill,
I’m getting the Sport 2 AWD model, so that explains a lot. Appreciate the valuable information you share.
Nice to hear. Thanks.
Some have said in the past that my comments were unnecessarily detailed but there are those such as your self who need the info.
