2024 Buick Envista Avenir: The Affordable Luxury Crossover

After months of online speculation and GM Authority spy photographs, General Motors has finally pulled the sheets off the all-new, North American-spec 2024 Buick Envista. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the luxurious 2024 Buick Envista Avenir in the following GM Authority feature spotlight.

The 2024 Buick Envista trim lineup, from bottom to top, consists of Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and Avenir. The Envista Avenir is positioned as the range-topping trim, offering owners a healthy dose of premium and exclusive features over the lower trim levels.

On the exterior, the entire 2024 Envista lineup features Buick’s latest design language, which draws inspiration from the Buick Wildcat EV concept. Highlights include a long wheelbase, a crossover coupe roofline, and LED checkmark lamps placed high in the fascia. The Avenir trim distinguishes itself from the rest of the lineup with an exclusive Black Ice chrome grille as well as body-colored lower front and rear fascias.

As for rollers, the Avenir is equipped with exclusive Pearl Nickel 19-inch wheels as standard fare, while a standard Watts Link suspension system elevates the driving experience.

On the inside, the cabin is highlighted by 19 inches of combined LCD screens, including an 11-inch diagonal infotainment screen. Avenir logos are embroidered on the front headrests, while leather-appointed and heated front seats are standard affair. A flat-bottom steering wheel is standard across the range, where the Avenir’s is heated.

All 2024 Buick Envista variants, including the Envista Avenir, will ship as standard with the Buick Driver Confidence ensemble of safety and driver assistance technologies, which contains the following:

It’s worth noting that the Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert features are also available as an option.

Under the hood, all 2024 Buick Envista models will be equipped with the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 136 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The GM six-speed automatic transmission will serve as the only transmission option.

Pricing for the range-topping 2024 Buick Envista Avenir starts at $29,695, including the destination freight charge. Production will kick off May 2023, with online ordering set to begin later this summer.

  2. Sounds like a pimply power plant and transmission.

  3. Side Blind Zone Alert is an option on the highest trim level? Should be standard across all trim levels. Pathetic.

  4. Well, we know one thing is for sure…the road test magazine editors are going to all have a field day knocking the one thing that this vehicle will be guilty of from the get go….yep, the less than stellar drive train, cause there will be not enough power and not enough gears in the transmission to make this particular little Buick a true competitor in its field with it’s competitors offering much more advanced and updated drive trains.
You’d think GM would take notice of this fact, they’ve been guilty of doing this in other small compact SUV’s, they’ve managed to put out there…and yet, those arrogant GM marketing mavens can’t seem to get it through their heads that this will be a serious factor in the “so-so” sales this particular vehicle will have when compared to others directly in it’s class.
Mark my words…you’ll see, this “ought to be good enough” thought process isn’t going to work anywhere near as successfully as GM thinks it’s going to work out, and it’ll be because you’ve got (only one) below average 1.2 liter drive train with not a higher horsepower engine available as an option and the same goes for the 6 speed transmission.
You’d think that GM would at least follow the lead of the leaders in this field, who else offers a “three cylinder engine” of such low displacement (turbocharged or not) and an older designed transmission AND of course this little Buick will not have an all wheel drive option either, which for those in certain climate areas that could use this feature won’t have even as an option available. Here we go again GM “we build products that are just good enough for some of the public” mantra seems to still be at the front of GM’s idea’s of what the motoring public will accept in a competitive marketplace.

    1. Perhaps GM figures that women are the target market for the Buick brand and concludes that performance is lower on the prioritization scale than other factors such as comfort and visual qualities. As long as the powertrain is smooth, quiet and with decent reliability and economy, it should work out fine.

    2. GM drops the ball again. Just like the PT Cruiser that was underpowered. It didn’t remain on the market for long.
I think GM should get their head in the game and try to compete with their competition. Ford always has the latest technology available and GM is way behind. Go figure.

    3. I agree with the engine power. But the 6 speed transmission has proven over the last 20 years to be the most trouble free trans. Never hear any trans problems when GM used the 6 speed exclusively in all its autos

    4. Rick: I just plain feel you are going to be wrong on this. First, as Dwight said above, that 6 speed is a very good trans and I can say that I’ve had a GM with it. I loved it. BTW, the GM I had with it was a 2018 Encore with the lower HP 1.4L turbo and 6 speed. I never once had an issue with power or performance with it and the HP was only slightly more but with slightly less torque vs. this 1.2L.

So many on here continue to complain about this vehicle having the 1.2L and 6 speed, but why? Let’s take a look back not that long ago where some V8’s only had around 150 HP and lower to mid 200’s for torque. And we lived with it. I see this as a problem of people have gotten so snobbish with the high performance numbers we’ve had for the past 10 years and now many are addicted to that. Yet there really isn’t a need for it. If you want a high performance vehicle, go buy one. If you want an AWD, go buy one. If you was a 9 or 10 speed trans, go buy one. But stop trying to force it all on the masses where most don’t really care. Like StuartH said above, as long as it’s smooth, quiet, good economy and reliable, it will be great.

    5. I agree Biden has just lowered the tailpipe emissions to the point of forcing those horrible battery powered vehicles on us rather than letting the market decide just as they have done with light bulbs.

  5. We need a small daily driver which can also be towed 4 down behind our motorhome. Does anybody know if the Envista is towable? While I haven’t outgrown my love for performance I have othe vehicles for that.

    1. Mark: Great question. I have no clue and I’m sure the Buick website won’t give that type of info. But maybe try the Chevrolet site and look at the all new Trax. It’s basically the same vehicle and would give you a good idea for the Buick.

  6. I know makes bank from Buick imports. They increase productivity of Korean lines building Trax & Trailblazer while boosing output on Chinese lines.
Unfortunately, Aldred Duncan has said Envista, but this goes for entire line up, will compete with Honda & Hyandai. That is Chevy’s task.
To make room for Buick’s relatively small mark up the brand gets quiet cabin technology, smart headlights, & a higher quality interior. These features would help Chevy better take on imports and maybe overtake Honda while keeping Korean brands in the rear view mirror.
Either Buick is an Acura/Infinity/Lexus rival or GM is now trying to play Hyandai-Kia with Chevy and Buick. GM needs to stop dumbing down Chevy for “personal luxury” Buick.

  8. I think this will be an exceptional buy when these get here. It is so disheartening to see how marketing is shaping the needs of people which is sad. Everyone jumps on the band wagon thinking they need to have these super fast vehicles with all the technology, all the while all we are doing is lining big business pockets with over priced vehicles that are not needed. All at the same time they are going above the speed limit creating danger and even causing death for other people. Driving erratic with their cell phone in front of their face not paying attention. Sure america we do need a more robust drive train so we can continue to be ridiculous and cause more accidents. Now after we have these super fast expensive vehicles we can also sit back and watch the repo man come for them when payments are no longer affordable. I guess it all boils down to choices and we let marketing trap us into thinking we need all of this. I know it isn’t everyone like that but here in AZ there are many.

    1. I just read an article complaining about this car not being “on par” with Mercedes, Audi, etc. This is pointless. This same magazine would tell their readers that a $400,000 Lamborgini would be a better choice that a Honda Civic Obviously some people are only concerned with how much it costs (is my house bigger or more expensive than yours?) This little Buick might be a ladies car or a retirees car. Who cares? It seems to fit in just fine.

  9. Adaptive cruise is standard o less expensive cars, and that is a lot of car to be hauling around with such a small engine and a 6-speed. It just does not seem to be a very good value for the money asked.

    1. It doesn’t even “say” Buick with those looks. Just a generic little car that could wear any badge and get by. Gads, but Buick has fallen so far.

  11. To those who discount my thoughts that perhaps GM/Buick could do better with a larger displacement 4 cylinder engine (turbo or non turbo) instead of an ultra small displacement 3 cylinder engine AND an outdated (but perhaps reliable) 6 speed auto transmission (and lack of AWD) please take a close look at the leaders in this class, look at what first through third place in sales are using as a drivetrain, and ask yourself “why” settle for less (in a drivetrain) when you can have more. For those who are totally “okay” with accepting less, then the little Buick will possibly suit your needs, but you’ll be enjoying a less than acceptable drive train combination. For those who want the most efficient and less stressed drive train combination, you’ll go with the leaders in the field, like Toyota or Honda. They seem to produce a product that can stay at the top of the leaderboard year after year without constantly bringing out a “new name every few years” in order to keep their sales lead. Why is this a constant factor in their sales success year after year?
They’re the masters at this game, so please watch what they do and you’ll be amazed at their continued sales success.
There is a logical reason why they’re number one or two and GM/Buick isn’t and it all boils down to not just giving the public more of what they are looking for in a product, but delivering it at a higher quality vehicle content index.
GM is successful only in it’s own mind in this field, if they truly wanted to compete successfully and go to the head of the class…they’d not just satisfy a small percentage of possible buyers, but would attempt to satisfy those who’s be considering the top sellers in that class. They’re number one for a good reason, and the market place future buyers knows what product will succeed and what one will eventually fail. So in closing, you can go ahead and accept the new Buick’s less than stellar drive train but before you sign on the dotted line, drive the number 1, 2 and 3 sales leaders in this class, then go drive the small Buick…if you can’t see or feel the extra effort that was instilled in the top sales leaders product, then by all means you’re the customer GM/Buick is looking for and you’ll probably enjoy your new Buick, there’ll just be less of you GM will have to worry about selling their product to…simply put, it’s hard to argue with success when you’re number one. ‘Nuff said.
