2023 BrightDrop Zevo 600 Sold Out, Reservations Open For 2024 Model

Demand for the 2023 BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric commercial cargo van is strong, and GM just announced that the vehicle’s introductory model year is already sold out. BrightDrop, GM’s commercial delivery and logistics subsidiary, is already taking orders for the next model year of its electric van.

GM says more than 30 different commercial customers have placed orders for the BrightDrop Zevo 600 and other BrightDrop products since the subsidiary’s 2021 debut.

BrightDrop remarks that “demand for our commercial EVs is at an all-time high.” In fact, commercial interest in the BrightDrop Zevo 600 has been strong ever since its launch. The company delivered the first units of the Zevo 600 to FedEx in December 2021 following a 20-month development period that was the fastest in The General’s history.

BrightDrop delivered 150 more Zevo 600 vans to FedEx in June 2022. The logistics company is currently using BrightDrop’s vans mostly in southern California, an area of the U.S. with one of the highest concentrations of public EV charging stations. FedEx described the delivery as “a critical milestone” in its plans to shift its entire delivery “fleet to all-electric, zero-tailpipe emissions by 2040.”

Other orders for the BrightDrop Zevo 600 include a contract for 12,600 units placed by Merchants Fleet, alongside an order for 5,400 units of the smaller BrightDrop Zevo 400, previously known as the BrightDrop EV410. While full-scale Zevo 600 production kicked off in December 2022, Zevo 400 production isn’t expected to start until the fourth quarter of the 2023 calendar year.

Vehicle rental company Hertz finalized a deal with GM in September 2022 to order 150,000 EVs through 2027, some of which will be BrightDrop vehicles. DHL Express Canada joined BrightDrop’s customer list in December, while Canadian freight and logistic provider Purolator placed an initial order for 15 Zevo 600 vans during March 2023. Overall, BrightDrop expects to achieve $1 billion in revenue this year and reach $10 billion in annual revenue by 2030, with a 20 percent profit margin.

While the 2023 BrightDrop Zevo 600 is sold out, reservations for the 2024 BrightDrop Zevo 600 are now open. BrightDrop’s chief commercial officer Steve Hornyak states “our customers have ambitious sustainability goals and they’re under extreme pressure to deliver on them,” adding that BrightDrop is “laser-focused on scaling production to deliver for our customers, and the planet.”

As a reminder, the 2023 BrightDrop Zevo 600 incorporates Ultium battery technology for power and Ultium Drive motor technology to provide propulsion, developing 300 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain includes two electric motors creating an all-wheel drivetrain, a 20-module battery, and an estimated driving range of 250 miles.

Peak charging rate for the electric van is 160 miles per hour. Cargo room is rated at 600 cubic feet, while maximum payload is estimated at 2,200 pounds, with a GVWR of less than 10,000 pounds. Production takes place at the GM CAMI Assembly plant in Canada.
