Per previous GM Authority coverage, every LPO, or dealer-installed, accessory assist step option for the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD lineup was unavailable to order. Now, we’ve learned that a few assist step features are available once again.
The following accessory assist steps are now available to order (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):
- Six-inch rectangular chromed tubular assist steps, LPO (VXH)
- Six-inch rectangular Black tubular assist steps, LPO (RVQ)
- Three-inch round Black tubular off-road assist steps, LPO (S6L)
It’s worth noting that the following accessory assist step options are still unavailable (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):
- Four-inch round chromed assist steps, LPO (VXJ)
- Four-inch round Black assist steps, LPO (RVS)
- Black work step, LPO (VQO)
- Off-road high clearance steps, LPO (VXW)
As far as accessibility, these options have varied availability across the Silverado HD trim lineup:

- Power-retractable Black assist steps with bright trim and LED lighting (BRS)
- Power-retractable Black assist steps with LED lighting (B3L)
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD sees the introduction of a mid-cycle refresh that features revised exterior styling, an overhauled cockpit, powertrain enhancements, and more.
In regard to powertrain, the 2024 Silverado HD is equipped with the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional. The Duramax boasts 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, up by 25 horsepower and a 65 pound-feet over the pre-refreshed models.
No matter engine choice, every Chevy Silverado HD runs the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, which replaces the GM six-speed equipped by gasoline-powered models previously.
As for structure, the Silverado HD rides on a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

Be careful when ordering these steps. Mine became pitted and rusty soon after installing them; along with the “chrome” wheels. Neither the dealer or GM would stand-by any kind of repair for the peeling and rust on the chrome. My suggestion is: get these options painted instead of chromed if possible. The wheels are even worse looking than the steps. If there is a way to make paint stick to them please let me know. Otherwise this is an exceptionally nice 3500 Duramax truck.
