Not All 2023 Chevy Colorado Units Are Being Shipped Yet

UPDATE: following the publication of this article, GM Authority learned that 2023 Colorado units equipped with the 2.7L Turbo Plus and Turbo High Output L3B engines were scheduled to start shipping on March 13th, but that date was pushed back as the EPA has yet to release official fuel economy ratings for the L3B engine tunes.

A few weeks ago, GM Authority exclusively reported that new units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado had begun shipping to dealers as of February 28th, 2023 following the start of regular production (SORP) a month prior on January 25th. Now, however, we’ve learned that only certain units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado are currently being shipped.

The 2023 Chevy Colorado LT.

Per GM Authority sources, only units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado equipped with the turbocharged 2.7 I4 L2R gasoline engine are currently being sent to dealers. As such, 2023 Chevy Colorado WT and LT trim levels are the only ones being shipped at the moment.

For those readers who may not remember, the 2023 Chevy Colorado offers the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine as the exclusive powerplant option. However, the engine is available in three distinct tunes, depending on the trim level selected, with WT and LT models equipped as standard with the “base” 2.7L Turbo tune, which gets its own RPO code (L2R) and is rated at 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Further engine options in the 2023 Chevy Colorado lineup include the 2.7L Turbo Plus, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque, and the 2.7L Turbo High-Output tune, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

The gap between the SORP late in January and the first shipments late in February was the result of the EPA’s finalization of the truck’s fuel economy ratings. As GM Authority reported previously, GM was unable to deliver new units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado until the fuel economy ratings were finalized.

Official fuel economy ratings have since been released, likely pertaining to units of Chevy Colorado equipped with the L2R engine. It’s unclear at this time if there will be separate ratings for 2023 Chevy Colorado units equipped with the Turbo Plus L3B and 2.7L Turbo High-Output L3B engines. GM expects to begin shipping new units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado equipped with the two more-powerful engine tunes starting Monday, March 13th, 2023.

As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Colorado rides on the updated 31XX-2 platform, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

    1. Don’t trust them.. They are dragging feet for some reason. They should knock off $1,000 off each for coming out to dealerships late!!

  2. I would expect lower figures for the off road oriented variants like the Trail Boss and ZR2 with their greater weight and massive tires and higher lift just as in the past versions.

  3. Another way to increase the price, limit supply, raise demand, increase the price. They don’t pay those college educated idiots in marketing for making marketing decisions for nothing!

  4. Our local Chevy dealer wants a 500$ non refundable deposit for ordering a truck that may arrive as late as June. They claim they have no idea when they will be having any on their lot for sale.

    1. So, what’s the problem? Either you’re in or you’re out. I’m not ordering anything unless, the customer has some skin in the game. Be thankful, they’re telling you the truth.

      1. but non refundable? thats asking alot. What happens if and when the truck comes in, the dealer says “sorry, but we have to raise the price now for you to take the truck” Than he loses his 500 bucks if he does what want to pay the increased price.

      2. Be thankful for getting gouged? That’s harsh. Looks like business is moving to the next door down

        1. The dealer only gets so many spaces allocated for them to order vehicles. Assume in your area that most customers want the Z71, but you order a WT. The dealer may have a harder time moving that WT, so it will cost them money. Hence, the non-refundable deposit.

I got my order in a few weeks ago, and got written assurance from my dealer that I’d pay sticker price, with no ADM, and that if (by some miracle) there is any factory incentives, those are mine to keep. He also gave me 100% visibility into what is in queue in front of my, and what options I wanted that were on limited allocation.

This is one of those times that separates good dealers from bad ones. Bad dealers will give you song and dance about how tough it is. Good dealers will be honest and transparent.

    1. Fewer options & colors = Cheaper to produce.

      Reply
    2. Wrong all kinds of color options black gray red white and brown black and gray are the base colors accented with red white and brown . Stitching is also color coded to match. GM did a great job with the interior in this truck

  7. Unfortunately, the 2023 Colorado (as it would seem), isn’t going to be available at dealerships until 2024 or beyond . Talk about dragging your feet! Remember when they used to have the next year’s models at dealers about 6-8 months before the new year?! Yes, I understand, “material shortages” because of Covid and whatever else they use to excuse markups and “demand”…

    1. Did you even read this article or did you go straight to the comment section to just complain about something? “Monday, March 13th, 2023” seems much earlier than “2024 or beyond”. I’m going to take a wild guess and say the 2024 Colorado will be the ones available in 2024. The base engine Colorados have already started shipping, the others will start this coming week. The ZR2 is slated to start production in April and will start shipping shortly after.

    2. Zero available anywhere. Are they really producing these??

    3. I guess it’s already 2024, feels like 2023 though.

  8. My salesman said they have received allocation for my ZR2 and order has been accepted for build first week of April. Dealer will honor my GM Supplier pricing. Now that’s a good dealership!

        1. Glad to hear your truck arrived 🙂 May I inquire if yours had the spray in bed liner from the factory? I ordered a similar Z71 and it hasn’t arrived just yet. I’ve heard that the spray in bed liner may be a source of delay because (supposedly) its done by a 3rd party before the trucks are actually shipped. All of the ’23 Colorado’s I’ve seen that have arrived did not have the spray in bed liner. Thanks for your time!

          1. I have seen both with and without sprayed in linner delivered. Eastern mid Atlantic region.

          2. Mine has a spray-in liner. My dealer had an identical one to mine ordered before me that hasn’t arrived yet. Only options it had that I don’t were 20” wheels and sunroof.

          3. Hello, I just received a note from my dealer they kicked back my previously accepted order because of the spray in bedliner, so I agreed to take that off the order and resubmit. The dealer said they will install if I still want it upon arrival.

            1. Thank you for the comment. That is interesting. I haven’t been presented with that option. I’m unfortunately still waiting as well. I’ve been seeing other ones arrive with the bedliner, so I think its just a potential reason for the delays rather than “the” reason. Either way, I hope you get yours soon!

              1. Hey thought it would be helpful to provide an update. The Colorado I had ordered unfortunately was one of the trucks that got hail damage from the storm in Missouri a few weeks ago. Thankfully, the dealership informed me of this on their own accord. However, there was still no estimated delivery time. I had ordered a Z71 with most of the options picked, so I think it is reasonable to speculate there is a part that is in shortage or just unavailable that is causing the delay. I had been waiting / saving up for a while at this point (I ordered the vehicle at the end of November 2022, and it was “built” by the end of Feb. 2023), so ended up going with a full-size truck instead. I considered a Silverado, but ended up going with a different brand. I still really like the new Colorado’s, but there were just a few too many red flags popping up to continue waiting for the particular truck I had ordered. I do not blame the dealership for this – I honestly think they’ve been dealt a pretty bad hand with this whole roll-out. This did steer me away from GM as an automotive manufacturer, however. If there is this much of a struggle getting the initial parts for the vehicle, then any sort of repair could also be a problem in the future. Maybe I just got really unlucky and this is not the norm, but that has been my take-away from the experience.

                1. FWIW Amy Z71 had a minor coolant leak upon arrival at the dealer. However, since it shares a motor with the current Silverado, they fixed it I. 24 hours and it has not been a problem. Sorry to hear about your issues though

  9. So here we are a week later and no L3Bs have moved. None shown on the GM inventory tracking sites (that haven’t already been mistakenly thrown on there for the last 2 months), no forum or Facebook users reporting 4200 (shipped status), no updated EPA numbers, no dealers advertising delivery to their lots. Guess the “GM source” was wrong. What does the GM source say now?

  14. Although I made a refundable deposit of $500, I am still looking at other mid sized trucks while I wait. Like maybe a Tacoma or Frontier, or maybe a full size truck. The local dealers in NW Florida are eager to sell their full size trucks and some are matching the Colorado sticker price. If the mfr keeps dragging their feet on delivery, I might get my deposit back and buy something else. This is the first year for this 3rd generation Colorado and you know 1st year comes with a lot of bugs. And just think, it doesn’t even have a garage door opener.

  15. I ordered my 2023 Colorado Z71 in late February and was told from the dealership that was built in early April and now just waiting for an ETA of delivery from the manufacture to the dealership. Hopefully soon it will arrive to the Dealership in the Colorado area! Ordered it with a bed spray on liner, sunroof and other options.
