The 2023 Chevy Colorado debuts a brand-new third generation for the pickup, introducing revised exterior styling, a new cabin, and a new powertrain. Now, GM Authority has learned that 2023 Chevy Colorado units equipped with the L3B engine and 4WD are currently being shipped to dealers. GM was previously holding these units as it waited for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to certify the official fuel economy ratings.
For readers who may be unaware, the 2023 Chevy Colorado is available exclusively with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. However, the four-cylinder is available in three distinct configurations depending on the trim level selected, with 2023 Chevy Colorado WT and LT models equipped as standard with the “base” 2.7L Turbo, which is tagged with its own RPO code (L2R). The 2.7L Turbo L2R is rated at 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The 2023 Chevy Colorado also offers the 2.7L Turbo Plus, rated at 310 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque, and the 2.7L Turbo High-Output, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The 2.7L Turbo Plus and the 2.7L Turbo High-Output are both tagged with RPO code L3B.
As GM Authority reported previously, units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado equipped with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R engine were the first to begin shipping to dealers late this past February. Meanwhile, new 2023 Chevy Colorado units equipped with the L3B engine (2.7L Turbo Plus and 2.7L Turbo High-Output) were not shipped as GM awaited finalization of the official EPA fuel economy figures.
Now, however, according to a Chevy spokesperson, 2023 Chevy Colorado units equipped with the L3B engine (2.7L Turbo Plus and 2.7L Turbo High-Output) and 4WD have begun shipping to dealers as of today, March 22nd, 2023. Models equipped with the L3B engine and 2WD are still on hold.
To note, the official fuel economy numbers for 2023 Chevy Colorado units equipped with the L3B engine have yet to be publicly released, although fuel economy figures for units equipped with the L2R are now known.
As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Colorado rides on the updated 31XX-2 platform, with production taking place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

The L2R and L3B are not only differentiated by “tune”. The L2R has hardware differences within the engine, hence, the lower output rating and different RPO code.
Thats correct. There is also differences in the transmissions between the low output and higher output engine variants.
All this from a government entity that gives an electric vehicle 40 mpg city 60 mpg highway ! all gm has to do is print out the appropriate window stickers now !
Very excited to rake delivery of my new Denali
The more you “rake” over the front of it the better!
You guys reported they were shipping out on the 13th too, which didn’t happen. Why should readers believe that this time it is true?
Why are only 4WD L3Bs allegedly moving? Can we get an explanation?
Because they haven’t finished EPA certifying the 2wd versions… Maybe apply just a little commonsense here.
On March 10th, GM informed us that it was expecting to start shipping out Colorado and Canyon units on March 13th, 2023. However, it was waiting on the EPA to certify the L3B engine’s fuel economy ratings. That date was pushed back to March 22nd as the EPA finally released fuel economy numbers, but only for the L3B engine with the four-wheel drivetrain. These are dates GM gave us. As we all know, delays have become the norm in just about every industry. The good news is that more trucks are shipping and should reach customers’ hands in the next few days or weeks.
Billy Bobson I agree with you they really haven’t been very good at getting us solid information. It’s like hit or miss the sad part is the dealer doesn’t know anything either. I’ve had an order in since late December now I understand I realize they weren’t manufacturing them until the end of January but you get my point and I’m still waiting. The dealer has submitted it but GM has not excepted it. I’m hoping tomorrow to get good news, but even at that I would assume I wouldn’t see that vehicle for at least 6 to 8 weeks horrible roll out. I have ordered a Dinali with all the bells and whistles and the fact is I wanted to order the 22 inch rims but those aren’t even available is crazy they put stuff out there and it’s not even available and it’s not like I ordered it mid year I put the order in before they even started producing these vehicles and the stuff isn’t available now that’s pathetic.
DENALI….
I bet if you produce your build sheet you will be missing some options, you box checkers always do when trying to brag.
Who puts 22’s on a truck?
Something is not available you say? You mean we aren’t in times with production shortages, staffing issues, parts shortages and transportation problems? Sorry you picked an option that they don’t have at the moment, welcome to the grown up world. They want to sell you that truck, but if things aren’t available then you either wait like an adult, or change something. This are extenuating circumstances, that option may be removed all together if they can’t get it but they are trying. So stop crying, and see how it pans out. This isn’t a botched roll out, this is a things have changed roll out and they are trying to adapt. They could skip a few options and sell it to you with a later retro fit, but I have a feeling you would LOSE IT.
Well first off, I didn’t put anything on the truck that the manufacture didn’t offer so I didn’t like the rims that were on it. I liked the 22s that they offered at an additional cost. It’s not about bragging it’s about having a choice. And as far as us being in strange times that’s fine then the manufacturer shouldn’t offer something that they can’t give let me guess. Do you go out to dinner ask for a salad and it only comes with tomatoes and onions because they don’t have lettuce and you except it OK sheep go out to pasture and we will call you when we need you I mean come on I’m not asking for anything that they haven’t offered and keep in mind I’m paying the bill and as far as a botched rollout yes, it is when you are saying you’re going to produce a vehicle at a specific time, and don’t even have all your ducks in a row between products to make the vehicle and options that are offered, but you cannot actually get them to your customer and then not having the proper sign off from the EPA to release the vehicle Yeah in my book that’s a botched rolout. Sorry you’re so confused.
Just another botched GM rollout of a new model. It’s been going on for decades.
Yeah, like anything is normal these days and they have complete control over everything. Come on man, think a little. Could maybe the EPA testing branch have had issues and been backed up when it was finally ready to submit for testing? Any number of reasons could have been the cause, these aren’t normal times and everyone has had issues with new roll outs. Remember the Bronco as just one of many examples.
So your point is gm is no worse than the worst? Not setting the bar very high bro. I expect my car company to be as good as or better than the best. Something gm needs to start striving for.
Stop whining. It’s normal for GM. I’ve been with GM for 25 years. They’ve never delivered anything on time in the last 25 years.
The EPA is having issues everywhere. Even since the last administration prolonged federal employees working from home, nothing has gotten done. I work a lot with customs with packages. They don’t get stuff cleared very quickly either on a normal year. Since Brandon, they barely show up for work.
There still are many Government Agency still working remote. The people in government don’t have the balls to tell them to get their butts back to the office because they are afraid they will quit. Neighbor works at Air Force base and he said they are not pushing them to come fully back yet because they are afraid of people quiting. So the issue as usual is the government. Personally those people who might quit let them quit because they probably aren’t worth their work anyway.
Everyone says they have put in an order when in reality GM hasn’t released an allocation yet. The dealer can take your money and wait for an allocation but the can’t order it until they get an allocation. When is the allocation coming. My dealer thinks soon but who knows.
Except, I do have an order in (with an order number) and have been getting updates from GMC and not my dealer. So something is happening, just no word on any deliveries
Weird- neighbor has has a Z71 (so it should be L3B) with regular MI plates parked in the driveway for well over a month now.
Any word on the 2023 Trail boss actually clearing EPA testing and shipping? Can’t really seem to get a straight answer from anyone at chevy.
