Impatient Chevy Equinox Driver Causes Motorcycle Wipeout: Video

Cars make it easy to travel long distances very quickly, but sometimes, that convenience can lead to impatience, as demonstrated by the driver behind the wheel of the Chevy Equinox featured in the following video.

Coming to us from reddit, this video was captured by the dash cam of another motorist, demonstrating in dramatic fashion what can happen when a driver fails to consider the consequences of blindly passing another vehicle.

Screenshot showing a Chevy Equinox, which ends up blindly passing another vehicle and causes a motorcycle to crash.

The video is only 41 seconds long, and opens to reveal a busy four-way intersection. The motorist with the dash cam is in the left-hand turn lane, and ahead we see a line of cars queued up to turn. As traffic passes by on the adjacent side of the street, the cars in the turning lane wait for a break to make the turn.

As the traffic starts to thin out, we see the driver in the Chevy Equinox aggressively tailgating the car ahead of it. Suddenly, the Equinox driver decides to pass the car ahead, obviously assuming that there’s a break in traffic with enough space to make the turn. Unfortunately, that assumption proves to be incorrect.

As the white Chevy Equinox passes the car ahead of it, we see a motorcycle speeding towards it. The rider reacts by trying to swerve, but ends up laying the bike down, smashing against the pavement in process. As the rider slides on the pavement towards the Chevy Equinox, the crossover’s driver speeds up into the other lane, and miraculously, the rider misses colliding with the rear tire of the Equinox by what looks to be millimeters.

The Chevy Equinox driver continues on their way, while the driver in the dash cam vehicle decides to hop the curb and pull a U-turn, blocking two lanes of traffic where we see the rider laying on the ground. Follow-up posts indicate that the rider survived with “lots of road rash,” while the Chevy Equinox driver was later caught and charged for the maneuver.

  2. Equinox at fault for illegal turn and motorcycle appeared to be speeding excessively. Quick lay down by the rider saved his life.

    1. Dress for the slide, not for the ride.. I learned that lesson the same way this guy did… As Dan Dan the fireman would say.. situational awareness.

  3. I’ve noticed a lot of “impatient” and discourtesy drivers since COVID. Stop signs, red lights and speed limits mean nothing anymore, especially to younger drivers. And in central PA the State Police are invisible!

  5. Thanks for sharing this! I can be an impatient driver and could easily get caught into doing what the Equinox driver did. I will remember this video next time I could fall into this trap and remember to be patient!

  6. As a long time rider I will say that traffic (drivers) has become lawless all over… I used to ride to work all of the time but after a couple of run ins with impatient drivers I’ve relegated my driving to mostly weekends. It’s just wild out there. Ride safe everyone!

    1. That’s why I recently sold the bike I had been riding since 1973. Way too many “fender benders” in my area to feel safe anymore. Seems like nobody has much patience.

  7. Call me crazy but it looks like there was no need to lay the bike down, I think he would have missed that white Chevy by inches. Besides that the bike was going a bit too fast. In any event the Chevy driver was at fault for passing the lead car.

    1. It looks like he hit the front brake too hard while trying to steer away and the front wheel slipped out and down he went!

  8. Impatient SUV driver, pulling an illegal left turn without the ability to see ahead of the road in from of him (or her) is most certainly the cause of this “almost a catastrophe” at this intersection! Impatience seems to be a part of our society nowadays whether it’s waiting in line at a Starbucks, or at a bank, or even a Home Depot….people don’t want to wait one second more than they think they should wait! That sort of thinking could not only get you killed (say in a traffic situation like we are seeing here) but can also create a problem with “waiting in line rage” (like road rage but, well you get the idea) and who knows just who you are messing with when you create a situation that can anger someone to the point where physical action happens, and then what will you do? Not everyone has the patience to put up with others as they “do their own thing”…but if you are of the mind think that everyone is timid and shy and will simply “do as you want or demand they do” then you are sadly mistaken. Everyone has a point that they’ll become combative if you push them too hard, so why risk a confrontation with someone you don’t know? Okay, ’nuff said, all I’m say’in is to have some patience in instances where another few seconds or even a few minutes isn’t going to change your life…but by not having patience, sadly it could very well change your life and by “poking the bear”…you could very well end up the victim of a disgruntled individual who could very well turn on you and the end results could be disastourous for both parties! Slow down, relax and take a deep breath in instances like this…the life you save could be your own. One more thing, most accidents do happen in intersections (so it seems nowadays) which should be a warning to all drivers, stay alert and always “expect the unexpected” to happen…TO YOU!

  11. As someone who rides for over 30 years, it doesn’t matter at the motorcycle is speeding. If he has the green light the cause of this is impatient driver been on the cell phone or simply being too impatient, thinking, whatever they had to do was more important in someone’s life!! Everyone be safe, ride safe, look twice!! so everyone can get back home to their loved ones!

  12. This is why I have no desire to be on a bike anymore. These people are idiots and on a bike you are so unprotected.

I pulled a guy out from under a car once and that kind of ended it for me on the road. He hit so hard it knocked his boots off. Only a good helmet kept alive.

  13. Wow. Wonder if Equinox driver even knows he almost killed the bike rider? Still see bikers in shorts , tank tops, and no helmut. Ouch!

    1. Yea it looks like he just drove away without a care in the world!!!!
Definently the type of driver that never looks in his rear view mirror.
Probably also says, “I’ve never had an accident, I’m a perfect driver”
Yes deeeek, but how many have you caused!!!!!

  14. Sorry, but I’m not getting stuck when the light turns red because the driver in front of me is afraid to make a left turn. Too many challenged drivers wait till the light turns red and I’m in the car behind getting stuck there.

    1. To avoid that, You Simply DO NOT pull into the intersection until it is clear to pass through…CORRECT Driving 101.

OMG, You might have to sit through the light one more time! Big F’n Deal!

The driver of the SUV is the challenged driver!!!!!

I speak for all bikers when I say Pay Attention to the Road People!!!!

  15. An intersection that large should have left turn signals. Another thing that many do not adhere to is never go full speed through large intersections. Place the foot over the brake and look left and right. The motorcycle rider decided to go full blast through an intersection and this is what can happen because of other peoples mistakes. It doesn’t matter if you have right right to at least go through at the speed limit. Either way at the morgue it doesn’t matter.
