GM pulled the sheets on the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX in February, unveiling a wealth of updates and changes, including a new cabin space, a new Avenir trim level, and the Buick Virtual Cockpit system. The model refresh also includes updated exterior styling, and now, GM Design is showing off this attractive Buick Encore GX exterior design sketch.
Created by GM Exterior Designer Hun-gil Lee, this Buick Encore GX exterior design sketch looks good, with a variety of standout bits and pieces that seem to have provided inspiration for the refreshed 2024 model year.
Let’s start in front with those checkmark-shaped upper lighting elements. Like the production vehicle, these lighting elements seem to follow the hoodline and emphasize the vehicle’s visual width, drawing the eye to the center of the vehicle and towards the new Tri-Shield Buick logo. The corners of the bumper are occupied by additional forward-facing lighting elements, this time arranged in a vertical layout, which bookend the horizontal air intake.
The grille section of the Buick Encore GX design sketch seems to be a little slimmer than that of the production vehicle, but the overall shape (as well as the polished chrome surround trim) is definitely familiar. Both the design sketch and the production vehicle are equipped with a smaller lower intake element as well.
Moving over to the profile view, we see the Buick Encore GX design sketch start to differ more heavily from the production vehicle. The wheels are probably the most obvious point of departure, with massive rollers used in the sketch, and more production-friendly rollers for the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX. The concept sketch also does not appear to include rear doors.
That said, there are still several similarities in the profile worth pointing out, including the sculpted styling lines running along the lower half of the vehicle, as well as the slope of the roofline and the shape of the window line.

That’s a nice looking 2003 Infiniti FX35.
Cool.. it is not !
GM has managed to take the Buick look out of new Buicks GX Encore and lost its design heritage in new upcoming models in my opinion ,it looks like everything else on the road ,blah !
Why do the sketches always look way better than the actual production model? Not good. When can we get the Wildcat and a respectable Riviera?
Because 26 inch wheels and a foot high greenhouse aren’t practical in the real world, particularly on an entry-level crossover.
@Doug…Enthusiast still like cars. Everyone else, not so much. Non enthusiast outnumber enthusiasts by a huge number. It’s like manual transmissions. Enthusiast love them. However, they’re a very hard sell in the real world.
Why did Buick show a Wildcat Coupe if there is no intention to build it? Can’t wait to see how bad a Wildcat SUV turns out. The design elements from the Wildcat translate poorly to a production vehicle.
I agree with Gary L. They killed Oldsmobile and Pontiac the same way.
Exactly! I learned to drive on Mom’s ’76 Pontiac Bonneville coupe with big block 400. My first was a 1979 Olds Cutlass with 350 Rocket! Had a ’98 Grand Am, ’02 Olds Alero that I loved. And now own a 2010 Silver Buick LaCrosse CXL with 3.0..very enjoyable drive with plenty of punch and a great style.
I’d love to see another Riviera too. My neighbor had an ’84 with the oval opera window in back and a 3.8 powerhouse.
I have to admit when I first laid eyes 👀 on the new Buick encore GX I to thought it was kind of weird looking…. But the more I look at in photos the more I like it l! I am glad Buick finally ditched the ancient waterfall grill, and the wired looking stubby rear end that sat slightly higher then the front end for whatever reason. Now let’s see how this looks in person there is a Buick dealer in my town where my wife bought her 2019 Enclave maybe I will stop in one day… Because cars always look better in person then in pictures and let’s see how this sells.
Chevy Man ,the reason you in retrospect like this new Encore GX is because these foreign designers made it look like another mundane Chevy with the horizontal grille bars to trick you into buying a south Korean designed expensive GX Encore trailblazer clone for America consumption and stuck three emblems fore and aft to make it a tri shield Imitation of a Buick design of the past !
Please Gary L if you don’t like it then don’t buy it… But don’t bash the hell out of it either! The I bet the interior is far superior to the 2022 Encore GX as well as the Exterior IMO. Also I don’t care what Chevy it’s shared with… This looks nothing like a Trailblazer… Ya know I figured it out Gary your a troll bashing GM every chance you get.
Chevy Man ,I own a 2023 Buick Encore GX Essence AWD and have owned over 100 various GM. Models or brands in over 60 years , so I am no Troll knocking GM .There is no continuity in this shark nose design front end ,so you’re welcome to be my guest at buying it.I have owned three Buick Encore GX AWD’s and will in the fall buy a the New 2024 Chevy Trax if it at least as the 1.3 Ltr engine and a CVT or nine speed auto.that is a much nicer integrated design in the RS model with a better family size interior for the money !
Well there you go Gary buy what you want… Just thank God it’s still a GM product the Trax is a cool looking little CUV I agree. BTW Don’t put off the Trailblazer I have read reviews about the TB and the people that own them love them even though it’s only a three cylinder they it zips say around pretty good… Granted it’s no performance machine but some people actually most people just want to from POINT A TO POINT B.
Yes please, as an EV made in the USA with 300+ miles and Ultium!
i love the vehicle in the design sketch. Make it happen please.
Buick designers have always been good at drawing pretty pictures. How about making the vehicle. Vehicles sell pictures don’t.
And offer a 3.6L turbo motor or a 5.3L V8 and i think it would sell.
It wouldn’t even fit, let alone being an insane power-to-weight ratio. Approximately the same as the Hummer EV. (Using the curb weight of the actual GX AWD at 3256 lbs and 355 HP of the L84 5.3L engine it’s even more power than the Hummer relative to the weight (almost a Z06), but of course the V8 weighs more so it would be a similar ratio. Even the current V6 at 310 HP would be very close to the same ratio at 10.5 pounds per horse instead of 10.)
What kind of market do you think there is for that? Even before considering the handling issues of that much weight in the engine bay of such a light vehicle that isn’t a squat performance car like the Corvette, I don’t think it would sell. And I sell Buicks for a living.
Looks way better on paper.
Looks like a Mustang,…. With all the money they spend in China. Couldn’t come up with something better then that!!
The 1.5 liter motor will kill sales. But by then they’ll probably drop down to a 1.2
It looks like every other CUV driven by old women on the road today.
Looks better on paper, but nothing helps that God-awful nose.
GM really hatched a turd on that design.
Honey, I shrunk the Urus…
It is going to have to be competitive with the Dodge Hornet power wise and in design. It just does not seem to be.
Tom… Dodge competes more with Chevy then Buick also I think the Hornet is more Equinox size then Encore GX… meaning it’s bigger then an encore GX. We will see besides Chevy has a new Equinox coming in 2024 hopefully it gets a power upgrade and nicer interior and no I am not talking about the Equinox EV.
Yes I may be mistaken. I have for 45 years bought GM products. Last year was the first non GM product I bought. I drove Chevy Blazers, Buick Envisions, and Cadillac 4. I ended up buying the Hyundia Santa Fe Calligraphy.
Tom I to tried to not buy GM for a while I had a dodge avenger and didn’t like it, I owned an 2015 Mazda 6 and got tired of things going wrong with it before 100,000 miles…. And I wound up buying a 2010 Chevy Equinox LTZ V6 and I must say that the only mistake I made was not buying GM!
Chevy Man I love personally driving our 2023 Encore GX AWD ,that’s why I want it to be a top seller with a desirable design ,it’s peppy and I love the engine growl when under hard acceleration and it’s great in snow and really cold weather for starting and driving with a great heater and defroster in winter !
I would rather have the Avenir, Riviera and Avista concepts reach production as is instead of the Encore.
There should be some kind of LaSalle concept to bridge Buick to Cadillac. (Or change the name of Buick to LaSalle) Give the buyer some Cadillac without having to pay the price of admission. After all, why not cover every end of the price spectrum.
What’s with that copy + paste grille opening under the main grille opening???
