GM And EarthCruiser Tease GMC Hummer EV Pickup Overlander Concept

GMC is teaming up with EarthCruiser to offer a new overlanding upfit solution for the GMC Hummer EV Pickup. Based out of Bend, Oregon, EarthCruiser currently offers several high-end overlanding vehicles, including the EXP, FX, and EC Terranova, and now, the company will apply its go-anywhere know-how to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

Although details on the new GMC Hummer EV Pickup overlander are still forthcoming, GMC did release a single shadowy teaser image that appears to show the all-electric off-roader equipped with a camper shell and photovoltaic solar power array on the roof.

GM and EarthCruise will soon reveal its new GMC Hummer EV Overlander Concept.

“As we consider the future of overlanding, we are continuing to look toward key technologies like electrification that will help us explore for decades to come,” said EarthCruiser CEO and founder, Lance Gillies. “Electrification presents exciting opportunities for overland use, such as precise torque control over terrain and ease-of-use, in addition to zero-tailpipe emissions.”

For those readers who may be unaware, overlanding is a type of motorized outdoor activity wherein the journey itself is emphasized as the primary experience, with vehicle capability and self-sufficiency both considered key components. With regard to overlanding in the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, electrification certainly presents a wealth of opportunities to provide the user with electrically driven comforts while exploring the Great Outdoors. Of course, there’s also the issue of extended range, as unlike an internal-combustion overlander, adding extra miles isn’t quite as simple as carrying a spare fuel can.

Either way, we’re eager to see what GMC and EarthCruiser come up with. After all, the GMC Hummer EV certainly has some impressive off-roading chops, offering nearly 16 inches of ground clearance, a max approach angle of 49.7 degrees, a max departure angle of 38.4 degrees, and a max breakover angle of 32.2 degrees. Add in the 212.7 kWh battery and 329-mile range on offer with the GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1, and you get a recipe that can not only go the distance, but can get there without much issue.

As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV rides on the GM BT1 platform and is produced at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

  1. I see solar panels. I’m sure they are used to power the camper part but hopefully they at least trickle charge the Hummer batteries so that if you’re there a few days you get a boost.

    1. Charge at night while camping, oh wait, that won’t work.

  2. I don’t see the point in offering an overlander vehicle when the at4 lineup already exists.

    1. That’s correct but I guess it all comes down to customer choices, I along with everyone else, will be curious to as to how much more extreme will this thing will get in terms of Off Road capability in order to justify the means of having this concept come to light.
