The Santa Fe placed first with a 35 percent share, up a segment-best 13 percentage points. The Edge took second with an 18 percent share, down a segment-worst 12 percentage points.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee, which we typically include in the midsize two-row segment, is now offered in both two- and three-row configurations. Unfortunately, Jeep’s parent, Stellantis, does not break out sales figures of both models, leading us to remove it from this comparison.
The two-row mid-size mainstream crossover segment contracted five percent to 96,877 units during Q4 2022, meaning Blazer sales underperformed this segment average as well.
The GM Authority Take
The drop in Chevy Blazer sales during the fourth quarter of 2022 was the result of low inventory.
Blazer new-vehicle inventory supply was at 23 days supply in February 2023, up from 17 days in January 2023 and 16 days supply in December 2022. For reference, a 60-day supply was considered optimal in the U.S. auto industry prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. More specifically, a 60 day inventory level means that dealerships have enough inventory on-site to sustain current sales volume for roughly the next 60 days.
About Chevy Blazer
The refreshed 2023 Chevy Blazer arrives with revised front and rear fascias, different LED headlights and taillights, and a larger new center stack screen. One of the new interior changes is the addition of the Jet Black colorway with Nightshift Blue accents. Additionally, the 2023 Chevy Blazer gets separate Convenience and Driver Confidence packages, splitting the content previously included with the Convenience and Driver Confidence Package offered for the 2022 Blazer. The 2023 Blazer adds two new Arctic appearance packages and expands availability of the wireless phone charging feature, which is now offered on all trim levels.
GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine remains standard on the 2023 Blazer 2LT, 3LT, and Premier, producing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine – rated at 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque – is standard on the RS trim level and is available as an option on the 3LT and Premier. Both of these engines are paired with the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard and all-wheel-drive is optional.
Production of the 2023 Chevy Blazer began at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico on August 1st, 2022. The online configurator tool is live for the 2023 Blazer. Production of the 2024 Chevy Blazer is currently scheduled to kick off on July 10th with production of the 2023 Blazer ending two days earlier on July 8th.
In July 2022, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV finally made its official debut, ushering in the next generation of mass-market electric crossovers from the American brand with a maximum GM-estimated range of 320 miles from a full charge. The Chevy Blazer EV will be available in front-, rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, while the trim level lineup will include 1LT, 2LT, RS, and Blazer EV SS, along with a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for law enforcement, making it the quickest police package ever offered by Chevy.
The Bow Tie brand is even bringing back a Super Sport model with the first-ever 2024 Chevy Blazer EV SS. A standard performance AWD propulsion configuration delivers up to 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque in the crossover, enabling a zero to 60 mph time of under four seconds in the Wide Open Watts (WOW) acceleration setting. Additional performance-focused features include a specific sport-tuned chassis and Brembo front brakes.
Set to go on sale this summer, we recently spotted the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV RS in black and in Radiant Red Tintcoat.
The introduction of the Blazer EV begs the question: does the ICE Chevy Blazer have a future? All indicators point to the 2025 model being its last year.
As the all-electric Blazer EV enters the market and eventually replaces the ICE Blazer, it’ll be interesting to see how sales pan out for the midsize crossover.

The table “Sales Numbers – Midsize & Full-Size Mainstream Crossovers – Q4 2022 – USA” isn’t useful: it mixes sizes. No one cross-shops a Traverse with a Blazer.
There is currently a 6-12 MONTH wait for a new Toyota Venza in the US, which is currently made in a single factory in Japan. The same factory also manufactures the Japanese market version, the Toyota Harrier, which is enjoying an increase in sales after Nissan stopped selling the Murano in the Japanese market.
Couple the “supply chain shortage” with Toyota trying to balance domestic demand and US demand, and they simply can’t make enough of them.
Honestly, in my region of the US, I see the current Venzas daily on the road. I can’t tell you the last time I saw a current generation Blazer on the road. Perhaps they are more popular in other parts of the country.
Toyota sure sells lots of highlanders.
