GM has issued a product recall for certain units of the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6Â due to the installation of the incorrect transmission sun gear.
The problem:Â vehicles built with the incorrect transmission sun gear can have the driver-side half-shaft disengage from the transmission.
The hazards: if the driver-side half-shaft were to disengage, affected vehicles can experience a loss of drive power or a rollaway while parked, both of which can lead to an increased risk of a serious crash.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect the transmission and replace the sun gear as necessary, all free of charge.
Affected components: transmission sun gear.
Affected vehicles:
- 2023 Chevy Blazer
- 2023 Chevy Traverse
- 2023 GMC Acadia
- 2022 Cadillac XT5
- 2023 Cadillac XT5
- 2023 Cadillac XT6
Number of affected vehicles: GM believes there are 7,840 vehicles affected by this recall in total, including 783 units of the XT5 and 613 units of the XT6.

Are all the sun gears of the affected vehicles being made/assembled at the same plant or is this a wider issue?
Apparently they didn’t care to specify, although this seems like a fairly small issue that is being blown way out of proportion. I can almost guarantee due to the fact it’s the same vehicles on the same platform affected Acadia/XT6 it’s one plant and production line.
Doesnt surprise me. Ive had an issue with my torque converter since I’ve owned mine. Proud to buy American, but now wished I hadn’t. Too bad, otherwise, I love the car. I wasn’t a smart buyer. Iso many questions to ask the dealer, and I asked all the wrong ones.

I have to agree. I bought an xt5, the second mistake I made. My first was an acadia. Pretty sure my next car will not be American made.
I like the look of the Cadillac but I hate the driving experience.
Letter from GM states parts for recall repair not available. When will parts be available. GM service advised not to drive. No immediate solution available.
SO WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH A $ 65,000 CAR I AM NOT SUPPSED TO DRIVE BECAUSENO PARTS TO REPAIR IT ATE NOT AVAILABLE – SO MUCH FOR AMERICAN MADE JUNK
no way to know that replacement tranny is flawless. mine started drip. tried to keep fluid up
for the couple days until i found mechanic. replaced seal and torque converter . fixed leak but
slipping between 1-2. that money is gone. don’t want to repeat w another tranny that may have
slipping or some issue. installation is not cheap. in and out and in and out. what is best way to
ensure tranny is without an issue. love the car though
