Buick Encore GX Heated Steering Wheel Retrofits Under Way

As GM Authority covered in the past, certain Buick models were affected by a heated wheel steering constraint, including the 2022 and 2023 Buick Encore GX. Now, affected models can have a retrofit performed to have the feature activated.

Starting with November 21st, 2021 production, certain units of the 2022 Buick Encore GX were built without the heated steering wheel (RPO code UVD). In addition, some 2023 Buick Encore GX models have been built without the same feature since the start of regular production (SORP) on April 24th, 2022. Affected models can be identified as such by a 00G RPO code on the window sticker.

As context, the heated steering wheel feature was normally available on the Essence trim level, and not offered at all on Preferred and Select trims.

As a reminder, the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX officially debuted in February 2023. In regard to styling, the exterior design has been revised and draws inspiration from the Buick Wildcat EV concept vehicle as well as the upcoming fully electric Buick Electra E5 crossover. It’s worth noting that the 2024 Encore GX will be Buick’s first North American vehicle that features the new Tri-Shield logo design.

One notable piece of the refresh is the introduction of the range-topping Avenir trim level. This new-for-Encore GX trim features several unique exterior accents and interior materials, and is chalked full of technology and active safety features. Notably, the heated steering wheel will standard on the Avenir, optional on the Preferred and Sport Touring trim levels.

As far as technology, the 2024 Encore GX receives a suite of new safety features, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam auto high beams, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Additionally, the Virtual Cockpit System will be equipped as standard.

Under the hood, specifications largely carry over from the 2023 model. This includes the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and the available turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine, rated at 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.

FWD is standard and pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission, while AWD is optional and pairs with the GM nine-speed automatic.

As for structure, the 2024 Encore GX rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set. Production is set to kick off in March 2023 at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea.

    1. The service parts identification sticker is in the trunk on my 2022 Encore. Lift the floor panel and look on the left (Drivers side). It will have the Vehicle identification Number (VIN) and an entire list of options your vehicle came with. These are the RPO codes If you take a picture of it you can keep it and enlarge it to read it much easier.
      Hope that helps 🙂

THEY WANT TO SELL IN AMERICA, THEN SUPPORT AMERICAN JOBS!!
They want to be ‘Global’, fine, But support the people where you build.
Our Enclave was built with 57% American goods. Then GM corp attitude…..is JUST 57% FOR the USA!!!
