The second-generation Chevy Corvette was produced from 1963 to 1967. For its final year, Corvette design became cleaner, less adorned. Rocker trim was painted black, the side vents morphed from three large vertical slats to five, smaller forward-slanting slots in a single vent, and the fender crossed-flag emblems were eliminated. There was a standard back-up light positioned above the license plate. Five-slot Rally wheels were standard, and the knock-off wheels of previous years were replaced by a similar bolt-on design. The parking brake, previously located beneath the dash to the right of the steering wheel, was moved to the center console behind the shifter, between the seats. The seats received a redesign, the passenger-side handhold was eliminated, and there were a handful of other interior changes. The 1967 model-year Corvette is largely considered the most collectible of the Mid Years, second only to the 1963 Split Window Coupe.
The 1967 Chevy Corvette had a number of powertrain options. Small Block choices included 327s rated at 300 or 350 horsepower, and the 427 cubic-inch Big Block could be had in 390-, 400-, or 435-horsepower variants (we will skip the 430-horsepower L88 option for now, as it was intended as a strictly competition offering). The Big Block Corvettes for 1967 had a redesigned hood bulge that came with a contrasting painted “stinger.”
Our feature 1967 Chevy Corvette convertible has been the subject of a frame-off restoration in the late 1990s. It is a multiple National Corvette Restorers Society Top Flight Chapter and Regional winner. Powered by its original drivetrain, the Mark IV L71 435-horsepower 427 Big Block is fed by the trio of two-barrel Holley carbs installed at the factory. The Rat Motor is backed by the original Muncie M21 close-ratio four-speed transmission. Power moves to the rear wheels through a 3.55 Posi-Traction rear end. Spent gasses exit through factory side exhaust. Resplendent in Ermine White with Marina Blue stinger over a white vinyl interior, this Corvette is the only known example in these colors and drivetrain.
Inside, the Chevy Corvette is equipped with a wood-rimmed steering wheel, an AM-FM radio, headrest seats (added during the restoration), a tinted windshield, and both tops (the hardtop needs the rear plexiglas window). The Corvette rolls on bolt-on style wheels shod in radial blue-wall tires. It is believed to have covered just 72,869 miles in its lifetime as evidenced by the Arizona-issued title showing actual mileage.
Included in the sale of this one-of-one Chevy Corvette is the original spare, four original Kelsey-Hayes bolt-on wheels with 1967 non-DOT whitewall tires, the original tank sticker, ownership history, and the NCRS Shipping Data Report.
This unique Chevrolet Corvette will cross the Mecum Auctions block at their Glendale, Arizona event taking place March 28th through April 1st.
