Just weeks after announcing the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax in South Korea, General Motors to launch Chevrolet‘s new global crossover in that country next week.
The automaker’s South Korean subsidiary announced that it will hold the 2024 Chevy Trax‘s official local launch on Wednesday, March 22nd. The event will take place at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) located in the city of Goyang, where GM Korea has summoned local media to give them a first taste of new 2024 Trax.
Officially dubbed the “Trax Crossover Media Showcase,” the launch event for the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax scheduled for next week in South Korea will include an unveiling ceremony where local company leadership will outline the details and specific configuration of the product for that country, as well as several test drive sessions during the same day.
In particular, the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax launch in Korea will take place almost a month after the crossover’s mass-production start-up ceremony at the GM Changwon plant – which was held on February 24th. During that first month of production, all units of the 2024 Trax were built for the North American market, and have already begun shipping to the United States and Canada.
The first 2024 Chevy Trax units for the South Korean market are expected to start rolling out of the Changwon complex later this month, so the model’s arrival at local dealerships is expected in the first half of April. The new crossover represents a key part of GM Korea’s operations that will increase production and sales of the brand in that country.
The all-new 2024 Chevy Trax will officially launch next Wednesday, March 22nd in South Korea, the nameplate’s country of origin and largest manufacturing center worldwide. It is not yet clear what the exact positioning of the new 2024 Trax will be in the South Korean market, whether it will rank below the Chevy Trailblazer as in the United States, or above the subcompact crossover in the brand’s portfolio.

I’ve not seen a Chevrolet that wasn’t a truck or sports car have as much positive feedback from the automotive press as this new Trax. It’s going to be a hit, and it will pull buyers to Chevy for the long haul if it’s reliable and easy on maintenance (remember a lot of young buyers will have these). $25k for a fairly loaded, spacious vehicle that can reliably go 150,000-200,000 miles is going to be huge for the automotive market. Right now a Corolla and Civic are $25k…and while they are reliable and efficient, they are also less roomy and less stylish.
GM need to get this thing to the US quickly. I suspect within a few months, sales of everything over $45K will slow to a crawl. There are a lot of dark clouds over the global economy right now. Chevy dealers will need proportionally more affordable vehicles in stock than normal. And fleets are not going to be as enthusiastic about replacing older models with the top of the line, upsized models – they will be looking for deals too.
I also think the rollout of the Equinox and Malibu updates need to be accelerated while the EV roll outs are de-prioritized for a couple of years. And it might be wise to provide GMC/Buick dealers with an affordable (under $35k) sedan based on the Malibu…essentially to be a budget version of a Lexus ES or Acura TLX.
I wish the reliability issue was solid but the Cruze was a dog. Terrible transmission and constant coolant leaks. My car started having issues at just over 30k miles. The new Trax is a nice looking vehicle and I hope works as well.
I see a few on dealer websites already and the sickening call for price which means idiotic markups of $5k on entry level vehicles. Dealers can go to hell as soon as possible.
I sat in a pre-production Trax at the Auto Show and I’m pretty sure this will be a major hit for GM. Nothing about the interior is terrible, there’s decent room given the size, the screens look sharp, and the price is right. Just hope quality is decent.
