First breaking cover in October of the 2020 calendar year, the GMC Hummer EV offers impressive all-electric performance wrapped in a tough off-roader package. GMC Hummer EV production got under way at the GM Factory Zero plant in October of 2021. Now, GM Authority has learned that roughly 500 units of the GMC Hummer EV were built during the month of February, 2023.
GMC Hummer EV production has been steadily increasing since October of 2021, with monthly production totals breaking into four-figures in October of the 2022 calendar year. The highest monthly production total for the GMC Hummer EV thus far was in November of 2022, during which time 1,455 units were produced.

Notably, GMC Hummer EV production was taken offline late in November in order to upgrade the GM Factory Zero facility to produce the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. As a result, no new units of the GMC Hummer EV were produced during the months of December, 2022, and January, 2023.
Now, however, new units of the GMC Hummer EV are once again rolling off the line in Detroit. With 504 units produced during February of the 2023 calendar year, a total of 5,534 units of the all-electric off-roader have been produced thus far. These totals include both the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the GMC Hummer EV SUV, the latter of which was originally slated to hit production January 30th, 2023, but in fact did not begin rolling off the line until February.
According to a statement made by Buick and GMC Global Vice President Duncan Aldred, the GMC Hummer EV is currently sold out, with GM holding an estimated 90,000 reservations as of September 2022.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV features GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors, with the range-topping Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 producing 1,000 horsepower. The GM BT1 platform provides the underpinnings.

What a GM joke. The H-EV has been out for over a year and I’ve only seen one in the DC metro area whereas I’ve seen many Rivian R1Ts and FORD Lightnings.
GM really dropped the Ball with their BEV’s. It is borderline embarrassing. I am old enough to remember Barra saying that Tesla doesn’t know how to manufacture at scale like GM does and that is why they will surpass them by 2025 in the USA. What an utter joke those comments were. Tesla is wiping the floor with all Legacy Manufacturing.
They actually started earlier than most Legacy Automakers and all they have to show for it is egg on their face so far. It is extremely disappointing how they are struggling this badly to ramp up production of extremely highly coveted vehicles.
And I am not just discussing the Hummer.
I have not been on the Mary has got to go Train but unless she figures this out and does so ASAP she might need to go. GM basically gave up their early lead as a Legacy Automaker on BEV’s. That is unacceptable for the amount of investment they have made thus far. If GM cannot scale the Sierra, Silverado, Blazer, and Nox BEV’s in the numbers that the customers are craving the board needs to replace her.
They have to get these highly coveted vehicles to their customers in droves like Tesla is doing. Otherwise it will prove she is not up to par for the Biggest challenge and monumental shift that the Auto Industry has ever seen,
Borderline Embarrassing? They crossed that Red Line years ago..
The only reasonable number of GM plug ins I see are First and Second Generation VOLTS, a vehicle they spent huge funds on then discontinued with the 2019 model year.
Although not fully practical, people like me bought them since it was the only thing coming from GM, and in the 2019 VOLT case… I’m keeping mine for a long time…
GM is even having trouble manufacturing the more upscale ICE vehicles…..
All that you see at the dealerships are mainly vehicles from Korea, China, or Mexico.
The rollout of the Bolt Ev and Euv are both depressing, but no where near as bad at the Cadillac Lyriq.
Supposedly next month the factory has committed to manufacturing my vehicle, that per GM Authority no longer exists – the 2023s supposedly ended at 3/17/2023.
The fact that Simple, Accurate Production information is defacto non-existent is an Additional Embarrassment.
I dig the Hummer and have a Silverado reservation, buy at their best monthly run rate so far it would take them over 5 years just to fill the 90,000 reservations.
This concerns me since without a major increase in production rate, I have no idea when my EV might actually be built.
After having GM cancel my 2023 Silverado 3500HD order, I do find this disappointing. I do hope they get it figured out.
Once again, it seems to me that GM has structured themselves as an EV vertically integrated manufacturer. This business structure has it benefits. However, when your battery plants cannot keep up with product demand; these are the results and I believe that their Ohio battery plant ‘ramped up’ much slower than expected. So, let’s be patient and see what happens the next few months. It should be interesting.
