GM has announced the finalists in its “Fast Trax Your Future” contest, which will see a winner receive use of a 2024 Chevy Trax SUV for three months, a $100,000 cash prize, and the title of “Lead Dream Chaser.”
Submissions to become Chevy‘s Lead Dream Chaser opened on Friday, January 13th, 2023 and were accepted for 30 days. Five finalists have been revealed, as scheduled, in March, with a single winner to be announced in April.
Kickstarter CEO Everett Taylor is partnering with Chevy in the Lead Dream Chaser search. Taylor remarked that “the past few years have caused many to consider turning their ideas and ambitions into reality, and I’m excited to help Chevy find a qualified person who will pursue their dream.”
Contestants sent Chevy a short video describing themselves, the dream they would realize with the $100,000 cash prize, and how they would use the 2024 Chevy Trax in their project. Judges then sifted through the entries to choose the five they thought most deserving of moving to the finalist round.
The five finalists are listed below.
- Meag Schwartz, whose dream is expanding her Great Lakes Responsibility organization to clean up Great Lakes beaches.
- Arelious Cooper, founder of the Art in the Paint non-profit to create safe spaces and community development.
- Emily Vital, who wants to expand her Denver craft business Talk Too Much to raise awareness about mental health.
- Khamori Jamz, a basketball coach who wants to turn his basketball enthusiasm into a sustainable business.
- Monica Ortega, a travel show host who wants to inspire more people to be adventurous.
The judges sorted out the entries based on five criteria, including overall story, creativity of the video, usage of funds, and personality. The fifth criterion, product integration, directly addressed how the 2024 Chevy Trax would be used to further the entrant’s dream project.
The winner is expected to share their experiences in “chasing their dream” on social media. This will make them something of a product ambassador for the 2024 Chevy Trax, since each was required to describe how they would specifically integrate the vehicle into their project.
The 2024 Chevy Trax officially launched in South Korea on March 22nd, debuting the crossover’s second generation with a fully redesigned new model. It features new exterior dimensions that are longer, lower, and wider than the previous generation, along with a more spacious interior offering an extra three inches of rear legroom and a 12-percent increase in cargo capacity. Numerous styling changes and technology updates are also included.
The new Trax is powered by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The same engine motivates the Chevy Trailblazer LS and LT trim levels. The 2024 Chevy Trax pairs the 1.2L I3 LIH engine to the GM six-speed automatic transmission. The only available drivetrain is front-wheel drive.
The first shipment of 5,000 units of the 2024 Chevy Trax destined for the U.S. market left South Korea at the end of February. The affordable crossovers will appear in North American dealerships in the spring, with the base LS trim priced at $21,495 including the destination charge.
