2024 Chevy Silverado HD Rear-Seat USB Ports Under Constraint

Back in January 2023, GM Authority reported that the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD would receive limited 12-volt power outlet availability. Now, another feature will be under constraint for certain trim levels, namely the rear-seat USB ports.

GM Authority has learned that the rear-seat USB ports (RPO code UBI) are currently under constraint. Affected vehicles will be indicated as such with RPO code RFO on their window sticker. As of the time of this writing, it’s unclear if there will be a dealer retrofit available later on, although it is unlikely.

As context, the rear-seat USB ports are normally optional on the Work Truck (WT) trim, but required the optioning of the 120-volt interior power outlet (RPO code KI4), which in turn required choosing the WT Convenience Package (RPO code PCV). As for the Custom trim level, the rear-seat USB ports are normally included and only available with the KI4 feature, which itself required the optioning of the Custom Convenience Package (RPO code PCX).

In regard to the LT trim, the rear-seat USB ports are normally included and available with the KI4 option. Finally, the rear-seat USB ports are standard on LTZ and High Country trim levels. Notably, these range-topping trims are unaffected by the constraint, and will thus continue to receive the feature.

As a quick reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD receives a mid-cycle refresh that features revised exterior styling, an overhauled cockpit, powertrain enhancements, and more.

Under the hood, the 2024 Silverado HD utilizes the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard fare, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional. The Duramax has been uprated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque as part of the redesign.

No matter engine choice, every Silverado HD runs the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, which replaces the GM six-speed equipped by gasoline-powered models previously.

Under the skin, the Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, while production began last month at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

  1. It would be really goos IF there was a site that would list constraints by the vehicles. Such as the Ultimate Denali. I am planning on a purchase of the ultimate D but there are several constrains. I also have questions on the vehicle. I have done extensive research and found my sources. I will or do not prefer to special order a vehicle and not have the options on it. As soon as I can consult a GMC represenative other than my local dealer. The local dealer just says “Oh its on constraint” Or not available! They don’t even want to consult their factory engineers? I made a order and when I got the first attempt they had the wrong level of HD truck, they ha a 2500 and I wanted a 3500 dually! So they attempted a second time and again didn’t want to admit the constraints. I cancelled my order. So I await until I know or get answers. Its a grreat truck and look foward to accept my new Ultimate D.
