GM has issued a voluntary emissions recall for certain units of the 2023 Buick Encore GX that may be equipped with an incorrect catalytic converter.
The recall only concerns vehicles powered by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine. This problem can also affect certain units of the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer.
The problem:Â affected units of the 2023 Buick Encore GX may have been produced with an incorrect catalytic converter part installed. As a result, the catalytic converter may not properly process exhaust gases and therefore may not meet all emission system requirements.
The hazards:Â GM has not specified any hazards associated with the incorrect catalytic converter. However, a 2023 Buick Encore GX which does not meet emission system requirements could fail an emissions inspection and maintenance test or prevent a service technician from confirming that the appropriate data is found in the ECM. Either of these circumstances could potentially cause considerable inconvenience for the owner of the affected Encore GX.
The fix:Â GM has instructed dealers to inspect affected 2023 Buick Encore GX units. The dealer is either to verify that the correct catalytic converter was installed at production, or, if the inspection reveals an incorrect catalytic converter is equipped, remove it and replace it with the correct catalytic converter part.
As only a small number of catalytic converters are incorrect, GM advises dealers to verify an incorrect catalytic converter is present before ordering the correct part.
Additionally, GM placed a stop delivery on affected Buick Encore GX units starting on February 16th, 2023. None of the involved vehicles currently in inventory can be delivered to the customer, dealer traded, or used as a demo vehicle until the specified service is performed. Once the service is carried out, the stop delivery is released on the specific vehicle that has been serviced.

Number of affected vehicles:Â the recall affects 1,500 vehicles, though GM estimates only 32 individual Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer units in total are equipped with incorrect catalytic converters.
