As previously reported by GM Authority back in March 2022, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, 2021 Cadillac CT4 and 2021 Cadillac CT5 were all earmarked to receive an over-the-air update for additional Super Cruise features. Now, select 2021 Escalade, CT4 and CT5 models equipped with Super Cruise and an active subscription are finally eligible to receive the new features.
This update includes two new Super Cruise features:
- Automatic Lane Change
- When enabled, this allows the vehicle to automatically change lanes to move around slower vehicles in its path without input needed from the driver. It also allows Super Cruise to initiate a lane change to the left or right when the current lane of travel is ending or provide space for merging traffic. It’s available on the 2021 CT4, CT5 and Escalade.
- Trailering
- New calibrations now enable the use of Super Cruise while pulling a trailer (if properly equipped). Lane change function is unavailable when trailering. Without this upgrade, you cannot use Super Cruise while towing a trailer. Available on the 2021 Escalade, but not the CT4 or CT5.
As far as pricing information goes, these updates are priced at $200 for the Trailering feature on the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, while Automatic Lane Change is priced at $500 for all three Cadillac models. These are one-time purchases and the features remain with the vehicle for its entire lifespan. Customers will be able to use these features as long as they have an active Super Cruise subscription.
Customers who purchase a Super Cruise upgrade can cancel the purchase within 7 days from the date of purchase to receive a full refund. The customer should contact an OnStar Advisor by calling (888) 4-ONSTAR or by pressing the blue OnStar button in their vehicle for more information. As part of the refund process, the customer will be required to consent to removal of the upgrade via a Vehicle Software Update on their infotainment system. They will be asked to accept the update within the first 10 ignition cycles.
It’s worth noting that the following models all offer Super Cruise. The Silverado, Sierra and Hummer EVs all include Automatic Lane Change and Trailering features from the factory, while the Escalade includes Automatic Lane Change as standard.
- 2022 Cadillac Escalade
- 2023 Cadillac Escalade
- 2022 Cadillac CT4
- 2023 Cadillac CT4
- 2022 Cadillac CT5
- 2023 Cadillac CT5

- 2022 GMC Sierra

According to a GM spokesperson, demand has been strong so far since the introduction of these upgrades, and customer experience has been positive.

This is better than other OTA options that tie upgrades to the user and cannot transfer them to new owners.
I actually see dealerships doing this to used vehicles they own as it offers a value add to older models.
I think it’s BS that GM needs another $700 to give me this, after they already got my money when I bought my 2021 Escalade. Total money grab. I love SC, and wanted the auto lane change function, but not gonna pay for it.
You paid $100k for a vehicle and now to get extra capability, you have a problem with $700? Maybe you should say that out loud to yourself to understand how stupid that comment is.
The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ was left off of this list for some reason.
Damn…my 2-CT6’s (2020 & 2017) both have Super Cruise and I just paid for a subscription renewal. I would pay for the lane change feature, but it looks like GM/Cadillac have forgotten about buyers before 2022. Not a surprise here. If they still had a US version of the CT6, I would buy one and trade my 2017 Premium.
You only have the hardware from the first gen Supercruise which you’ve enjoyed for a far longer time than any of the other models.
Consumer Reports has rated Lincoln’s Active Glide as better than Super Cruise.
But, I don’t think Active Glide has Automatic Lane Change like the upgraded Super Cruise.
FWIW, OnStar has zero information about this upgrade as of 3/20.
Unfortunately, when you contact OnStar they are 100% clueless on this upgrade feature. I have the mythical unicorn of owning a 2021 with SuperCruise (supposedly less than 125 made?) and love it – and am ready to upgrade now. But they won’t take my money 🙂 Hopefully that also expands the road network to the same as the Escalade and new 2023s with SuperCruise have.
Night Mare, I own a 2021 Cadillac Escalade fully loaded, before crap hit the fan with the supply chain. Upon reviewing my owner’s manual which states “not to use Super Cruise while trailering” I had no problem. However, upon receiving an email from OnStar notifying me of an Upgrade Super Cruise package for Trailering to include a lane change function, I purchased the upgrade ($749.00). The first issue, the program would not download, or I could not find the software (Note: I’ve maintained my standard Super Cruise via Onstar), after about a week of working with Onstar, they recommend I take my vehicle to my dealer, which I did. The second issue, believing that this would be an in/out process, I took my vehicle to Kevin Whitaker Cadillac of Greenville, SC. After a week in their shop, my vehicle had 68 miles added, the radio station changed, the windshield wiper and fuild had malfunction codes and now my regular Super Cruise wasn’t working. I was upset and took my vehicle to Fred Anderson of Greer SC who had my vehicle for almost two weeks working with GM to fix the issue.
The bottom line, is Super Cruise still does NOT work with trailering, DO NOT WASTE your money!!!
