Taking your car in for repairs shouldn’t leave it in pieces, but unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened to the owner of this 1986 Holden Commodore VL.
According to a recent report from Australian news outlet 7NEWS Gold Coast, the owner brought his Holden Commodore to a shop in Ormeau, Queensland for service last week, when a mechanic took his car for a test drive. As we can see, the test drive did not go as planned.
According to the report, the mechanic lost control of the vehicle and ended up crashing into three parked cars. Footage from the scene of the accident shows adjacent vehicles with bashed-in fenders and scratches, including a pickup truck that was shoved up over the curb and onto the sidewalk.
Police are currently investigating the incident to determine how it occurred. However, if we were to speculate, it appears as though the mechanic may have been driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
According to the report, the 1986 Holden Commodore VL involved in the incident is valued at around AU$150,000, or US$100,043 at current exchange rates (3/21/2023). Although details on the car were not provided, the vehicle appears to be heavily modified, with large, aftermarket wheels, lowered suspension, and a mangled intercooler poking out from the destroyed front end.
The Holden Commodore VL was produced between 1986 and 1988, and was available as both a four-door sedan and five-door station wagon. It features a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, and rides on the GM V platform. Several engine options were offered, including a 5.0L Holden V8 and a series of Nissan-sourced inline six-cylinders. It would appear as though this particular example was fitted with the turbocharged Nissan ‘six, given the large front-mounted intercooler.
For now, no charges have been filed in the incident. Check out the full video report right here:

Oh man. Poor owner. Hope everyone has the right insurance. Still won’t replace the car.
Oh man. My dad had one of these, a red Commodore Berlina Turbo, with a Brock rear spoiler and Momo mags. Many youthful memories in that car, obliterating the speed limit on long country drives. That in-line turbo six might’ve been Japanese but it was awesome and faster than the Holden v8s of the time. Plus it sounded like the batmobile. Rare as hens teeth now.
Can it be fixed, parts available? Hope that mechanic is well insured, looks like many thousands in damages.
I would be freaking pissed.
What an absolute wanker. The mechanic should go to jail. Too bad if someone got killed.
The mechanic should be blacklisted from the industry, and face charges for illegal use of a motor vehicle.
