Right-Hand Drive Cadillac Lyriq Prototype Spotted In Michigan: Video

A Cadillac Lyriq prototype in right-hand drive was recently spotted in Michigan, suggesting that GM is preparing the all-electric luxury crossover for a launch in right-hand drive markets like the U.K., Japan, and Australia / New Zealand.

The right-hand-drive Cadillac Lyriq prototype was caught in a parking lot by YouTube user Baba Jibagte, and presents a number of interesting details, including placeholder lighting both front and rear with matte black surrounds. The front grille is also missing the Cadillac crest, while the side skirts were removed as well.

However, the most interesting aspect of this particular Cadillac Lyriq prototype is obviously the cabin space, where we see an obvious right-hand-drive configuration. The cabin layout looks to be a perfect mirror of the standard left-hand-drive configuration, once again showing a large, curved, horizontally oriented screen that is laid across the dash and serves as both the infotainment readout and digital gauge cluster. The center console is also mirrored, with the infotainment rotary knob now placed on the right, near the driver’s seat, and a set of two cupholders placed on the left.

Although GM has yet to announce the availability of the Cadillac Lyriq in right-hand drive, GM did recently file to trademark the Cadillac Lyriq name in Australia, suggesting that the automaker is moving in that direction. While a GM spokesperson brushed off the trademark filing as “common practice for GM to secure key trademarks globally,” adding that GM was not set to make any announcements about Cadillac and will instead focus on the Chevy Silverado and Chevy Corvette in the Australian market, GM has considered bringing EV Cadillac models to Australia and New Zealand for some time now, as GM Authority reported in July of 2022.

As a reminder, the Cadillac Lyriq features GM Ultium battery technology and GM Ultium Drive motor technology, while the GM BEV3 platform provides the bones. Production for the North American market takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  1. I don’t see the little handle at the B pillar any more. Does that mean we will finally get the rumored new door handle system where you don’t have to move your hand from the handle to the little “wing” to open the door? That would be nice. That is one of the few obvious ergonomic with the current Lyriq that a lot people dislike.

    1. I have the 23 model, door handles were way over engineered, there is an electric motor on each that pushes the door outward to open, 4 motors that could need replaced somewhere down the road. A simple recessed mechanical handle would work just fine.

  2. Regarding the placeholder headlights: I wonder if they took an old early prototype of the Lyriq and converted it to RHD or they’re testing out new headlights for the European market (Matrix perhaps?).

  3. Yes! Make plenty of right hand versions to flood Japan with U.S. made luxury EVs. That will kill Lexus EV sales immediately, then kill Infinity EV sales, too.

  4. Great car for the US Postal Service. 😀
